The Islamic world in Ramadan: Coronavirus freezes centuries-old traditions

The Islamic world is receiving the holy month of Ramadan this year amid the spread of the new Corona epidemic «Covid-19», in most countries of the world, with precautionary measures, prohibition, and isolation not seen before in the nation in this holy month.

The measures that most Muslim countries have been keen to announce confirmed that “Corona” will this year change centuries-old popular and official traditions in the Muslim world.

Many countries have issued strict rules to prevent mixing during the holy month, to protect against the epidemic and to avoid infection.

In Turkey, the authorities announced a ban on suhoor tables and group iftars across the country during Ramadan, and the Interior Ministry said yesterday (Wednesday) that gatherings in tents and other places would be banned.

Residents are no longer allowed to make donations to the “men who wakes people up for Suhoor” who roam the streets to wake people up to eat suhoor. The ministry called on people to strictly maintain social distancing while lining up to buy bread.

In Saudi Arabia, the authorities agreed to establish taraweeh prayers on the Two Holy Mosques in Mecca and Medina, while continuing to suspend the presence of worshippers, and decided to ease the prayers of the canot, and focus on pushing and raising the epidemic.

In Lebanon, Sheikh AbdulLatif Drian, the grand mufti of the country, called on Muslims in his country to pray during Ramadan in doors, until the end of the epidemic, and addressed to Muslims by saying: “Don’t be discouraged, God’s mercy is vast, and our prayers will remain in our homes until God lifts this epidemic.”

In the occupied territories, a Palestinian people’s committee called for urgent relief support for the Gaza Strip, which has been economically exhausted by the Israeli blockade since 2007 and the repercussions of the Coronavirus crisis.

According to the German News Agency, the People’s Committee called for the Lifting of the Blockade on Gaza and urged international humanitarian organizations to redouble their efforts to provide relief to Gazans with the advent of Ramadan, as the economic situation worsens.

In conjunction with the Israeli occupation’s decision to close stores in Muslim residential areas in the first 10 days of Ramadan, on the grounds of “preventing the spread of the Coronavirus.”

The Israeli Ministry of Health said in a statement according to Anadolu news agency: «It was decided not to open companies and shops that receive the public between the 23rd of this month and the third of May, between 6 p.m. and 3 a.m., in areas inhabited by a majority of Muslims and some parts of Jerusalem.”

In Egypt, the epidemic caused the absence of the joy of Ramadan processions that roamed Egyptian towns and villages on the night of vision, in conjunction with the Egyptian fatwa house surveying the crescent of Ramadan.

In Iraq, the authorities warned against disregarding or flouting the social distancing procedures during the holy month.

يستقبل العالم الإسلامي شهر رمضان الفضيل هذا العام وسط انتشار وباء كورونا المستجد «كوفيد – 19»، في أغلب دول العالم، بإجراءات احترازية وحظر، وعزل لم تشهده الأمة من قبل في هذا الشهر الكريم.

الإجراءات التي حرصت معظم الدول الإسلامية على الإعلان عنها أكدت أن «كورونا» سيغيّر هذا العام تقاليد شعبية ورسمية عمرها قرون في العالم الإسلامي.

وأصدرت العديد من الدول قواعد صارمة لمنع الاختلاط خلال الشهر الفضيل، للحماية من الوباء، وتجنب الإصابة به.

ففي تركيا، أعلنت السلطات حظر موائد السحور والإفطار الجماعية في جميع أنحاء البلاد خلال شهر رمضان، وذكرت وزارة الداخلية أمس (الأربعاء) أن التجمعات في الخيام وغيرها من الأماكن ستكون محظورة.

كما لم يعد مسموحاً للسكان بتقديم تبرعات لـ «المسحراتية» -الذين يجوبون الشوارع- لإيقاظ الناس من أجل تناول طعام السحور. ودعت الوزارة الناس إلى الحفاظ بصورة صارمة على التباعد الاجتماعي خلال الاصطفاف لشراء الخبز.

في المملكة السعودية، وافقت السلطات على إقامة صلاتي التراويح بالحرمين الشريفين في مكة المكرمة والمدينة المنورة، مع استمرار تعليق حضور المصلين، كما قررت تخفيف دعاء القنوت، وتركيزه على دفع الوباء ورفعه.

وفي لبنان، دعا الشيخ عبداللطيف دريان -مفتي البلاد- المسلمين في بلاده إلى إقامة الصلاة في شهر رمضان داخل المنازل، إلى حين انتهاء الوباء، وتوجه إلى المسلمين بالقول: «لا تقنطوا، فإن رحمة الله واسعة، وصلاتنا ستبقى قائمة في بيوتنا إلى أن يرفع الله عنا هذا الوباء».

وفي الأراضي المحتلة، دعت لجنة شعبية فلسطينية إلى دعم إغاثي عاجل لقطاع غزة، المنهك اقتصادياً بفعل الحصار الإسرائيلي منذ عام 2007، وتداعيات أزمة فيروس كورونا.

وحثت اللجنة الشعبية لرفع الحصار عن غزة -وفقاً لوكالة الأنباء الألمانية- المؤسسات الإنسانية الدولية على مضاعفة جهودها لإغاثة سكان غزة مع حلول شهر رمضان، وفي ظل تفاقم تدهور الأوضاع الاقتصادية لسكان القطاع.

جاء ذلك بالتزامن مع قرار الاحتلال الإسرائيلي إغلاق المتاجر في مناطق سكن المسلمين، في الأيام العشرة الأولى من شهر رمضان، بدعوى «منع تفشي فيروس كورونا».

وقالت وزارة الصحة الإسرائيلية -في تصريح وفقاً لوكالة «الأناضول» للأنباء-: «تقرر عدم فتح الشركات والمحلات التجارية التي تستقبل الجمهور في الفترة ما بين الثالث والعشرين من الشهر الحالي، وحتى الثالث من شهر مايو المقبل، خلال الفترة ما بين السادسة مساءً وحتى الثالثة فجراً، في مناطق تقطنها أغلبية من المسلمين وبعض أجزاء القدس».

وفي مصر، تسبّب الوباء في غياب بهجة المواكب الرمضانية التي كانت تطوف المدن والقرى المصرية، في ليلة الرؤية، بالتزامن مع قيام دار الإفتاء المصرية باستطلاع هلال شهر رمضان.

وفي العراق، حذرت السلطات من الاستخفاف أو التهاون بتطبيق إجراءات التباعد الاجتماعي خلال الشهر الفضيل.
