Oldest Coronavirus patient dies after 14 months of suffering

London: Britain’s Jason Kelk, Coronavirus’s oldest patient, tragically died after a fierce battle with the disease that lasted for 14 and a half months at St James’s Hospital in Leeds, West Yorkshire.

According to a report in the British Daily Mail, 49-year-old Kelk made the decision that he could no longer live like this, refused treatment and died later yesterday surrounded by his family.

His wife, Sue Kelk, 36, said Jason’s arduous battle with the virus was too much, doctors were unable to control complications from the disease, which left him with lung fibrosis and unable to walk.

Kelk suffered from diabetes and asthma, and due to Coronavirus complications, his kidneys were severely damaged, as he could only breathe with a ventilator.

Sue Kilk praised her husband’s boldness, explaining that the decision to refuse treatment and the inability to live in this way was very courageous.

Jason, who suffered from type 2 diabetes and asthma, was taken to St James’ Hospital, Leeds, on 31 March last year.

لندن: تُوفي البريطاني جيسون كيلك، أقدم مريض كورونا، بشكل مأساوي بعد معركة شرسة مع المرض استمرت لمدة 14 شهرًا ونصف الشهر، في مستشفى سانت جيمس في ليدز، غرب يوركشاير.

ووفقًا لتقرير نشرته صحيفة «ديلي ميل» البريطانية، اتخذ كيلك البالغ من العمر 49 عامًا قرارًا بأنه لم يعد بإمكانه العيش على هذا النحو، ورفض العلاج، وتوفي في وقت لاحق أمس محاطًا بأسرته.

وقالت زوجته سو كيلك البالغة من العمر 36 عامًا، إن معركة جيسون الشاقة مع الفيروس أصبحت أكثر من اللازم، وعجز الأطباء عن السيطرة على مضاعفات المرض الذي أصابه بتليف في الرئة وعجز عن المشي.

وكان كيلك يعاني من السكري والربو، وبسبب مضاعفات كورونا تضررت كليتاه بشدة، حيث لم يكن بمقدوره التنفس إلا بواسطة جهاز التنفس الصناعي.

وأشادت كيلك بجسارة زوجها، موضحة أن قرار رفض العلاج، وعدم القدرة على العيش على هذا النحو هو قرار شجاع للغاية.

وكان قد تم نقل جيسون الذي كان يعاني من مرض السكري من النوع الثاني والربو إلى مستشفى سانت جيمس، في ليدز، في 31 مارس من العام الماضي.
