First hatching of hawksbill sea turtles at Fuwairit Beach recorded

Doha: The environmental section in the Protection & Wildlife Dept at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) revealed that the first hatching of the endangered hawksbill sea turtles was recorded at Fuwairit Beach.
This coincided with the World Environment Day celebrated this year under the slogan ‘Generation Restoration’.
The head of department Taleb Khaled Al Shahwani and his team recorded the data and released 53 hawksbill sea turtle that returned to the sea under full safety measures. So far, 92 nests were moved to the protected site at Fuwairit Beach.
The project to protect the endangered hawksbill sea turtles is being undertaken by the Environmental Science Center at Qatar University under the supervision of the MME with funding from Qatar Petroleum. The project covers Qatar’s northeastern beaches (Ras Laffan, Jassassiya, Maroona, Fuwairit and Al-Mfier).

الدوحة: أعلن القطاع البيئي بوزارة البلدية والبيئة ممثلًا بإدارة الحماية والحياة الفطرية عن تسجيل حالة الفقس الأولى لأعشاش السلاحف صقرية المنقار المُهدّدة بالانقراض بشاطئ فويرط، وذلك تزامنًا مع اليوم العالمي للبيئة، الذي يتم الاحتفال به هذا العام تحت شعار استعادة النظم البيئية. وقالت الوزارة في تغريدة على حسابها الإلكتروني في موقع التواصل الاجتماعي تويتر أمس: إن أعضاء فريق عمل المشروع بإشراف مُباشر من طالب خالد الشهواني، مدير الإدارة قاموا بتسجيل البيانات المطلوبة وإطلاق عدد (53) من صغار السلاحف للبحر، وسط اتخاذ كافة الاحتياطات التي تضمن سلامة الفريق العامل بالمشروع، وقد بلغ عدد الأعشاش المنقولة إلى الموقع المحمي بشاطئ فويرط 92 عشًا.
