Former State Department officials told Fox News that senior state department officials have been warned not to pursue investigations into the coronavirus, amid concerns that it could draw attention to U.S. funding for research at the Wuhan Institute in China.
A state development spokesman denied that anyone had been prevented from disclosing accurate information about the virus’s origin, al-Jazeera reported.
The speaker stressed that reaching the reality of the epidemic was not for blame, but for understanding how to prepare for future epidemics.
The spokesman stressed the ministry’s commitment to continue to press for a stronger and multilateral assessment of the origin of the virus in China.
China should participate in a full, transparent and evidence-based international study to find the truth about the origin of the virus.
U.S. President Joe Biden directed a new 90-day intelligence review of the virus’s origin to verify that it might have accidentally leaked from Wuhan’s laboratory rather than spreading through bats or other animals to humans.
A U.S. intelligence report revealed a few days ago that researchers from China’s Wuhan Institute had developed symptoms of the emerging COVID-19 virus and were hospitalized just before the epidemic was discovered.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the intelligence report revealed that three researchers from the Wuhan Institute of Virology developed Corona-like symptoms in November 2019 and had to be hospitalized.
The report could add further pressure to demand a full investigation into whether the pandemic virus first appeared in Wuhan’s laboratory, the newspaper said.
The disclosure of the number of infected researchers and the timing of their infection and hospitalization comes ahead of a meeting of a WHO body to discuss the next phase of the investigation into the origins of the virus.
China, on the other hand, has vehemently denied U.S. intelligence reports that scientists at Wuhan’s laboratory have been infected with the virus, saying the news is untrue.
Nearly a year and a half after corona’s discovery, the exact origins of the virus remain completely unknown.
The common hypothesis of the origins of the virus outbreak is that it is likely to have transmitted from wild animals to humans, while some Republicans and intelligence agents in the United States have long promoted the hypothesis of the virus leaking from a laboratory in Wuhan.

ونفى متحدث باسم وزارة الخارجية أن يكون قد تم منع أي أحد من الكشف عن معلومات دقيقة بشأن نشأة الفيروس، وفقاً لموقع الجزيرة.
وأكد المتحدث على أن الوصول إلى حقيقة الوباء ليس من أجل اللوم، بل من أجل فهم كيفية الاستعداد للأوبئة في المستقبل، على حد تعبيره.
وشدد المتحدث على التزام الوزارة بمواصلة الضغط من أجل تقييم أقوى ومتعدد الأطراف لأصل الفيروس في الصين.
وأشار إلى ضرورة مشاركة الصين في دراسة دولية كاملة وشفافة وقائمة على الأدلة للتوصل إلى الحقيقة بشأن نشأة الفيروس.
ووجه الرئيس الأميركي جو بايدن باجراء مراجعة استخباراتية جديدة لمدة 90 يوما لأصل الفيروس؛ بهدف التحقق من احتمال تسربه عن طريق الخطأ من مختبر ووهان بدلا من انتشاره عن طريق الخفافيش أو الحيوانات الأخرى إلى البشر.
وكان تقرير استخباراتي أميركي قد كشف قبل أيام عن أن باحثين من معهد “ووهان” الصيني ظهرت عليهم أعراض فيروس كورونا المستجد “كوفيد-19” وأدخلوا المستشفى قبيل اكتشاف الوباء.
وأفادت صحيفة “وول ستريت جورنال” (The Wall Street Journal) أن التقرير الاستخباراتي كشف عن أن 3 باحثين من معهد “ووهان” لعلم الفيروسات ظهرت عليهم في نوفمبر 2019 أعراض شبيهة بأعراض كورونا، واضطروا لدخول المستشفى.
وذكرت الصحيفة أن التقرير يمكن أن يضيف مزيدا من الضغوط للمطالبة بإجراء تحقيق كامل بشأن ما إذا كان الفيروس المسبب للجائحة قد ظهر في مختبر ووهان للمرة الأولى.
ويأتي الكشف عن عدد الباحثين المصابين وتوقيت إصابتهم ودخولهم المستشفى قبيل اجتماع هيئة تابعة لمنظمة الصحة العالمية لبحث المرحلة التالية من التحقيق في أصول الفيروس.
في المقابل، نفت الصين بشدة تقارير الاستخبارات الأميركية حول إصابة علماء في مختبر “ووهان” بالفيروس، مؤكدة أن تلك الأخبار عارية عن الصحة.
وبعد مرور عام ونصف تقريبا على اكتشاف كورونا لا تزال الأصول الدقيقة للفيروس مجهولة تماما.
والفرضية الشائعة لأصول تفشي الفيروس هي أنه على الأرجح انتقل من الحيوانات البرية إلى البشر، بينما يروج بعض الجمهوريين وعناصر استخباراتية في الولايات المتحدة -منذ فترة طويلة- لفرضية تسرب الفيروس من مختبر في ووهان.
