‘Qatar Supports the COVAX Facility to Accelerate Global Access to COVID19 Vaccines’

Doha: Qatar participated yesterday in the GAVI-COVAX Summit co-hosted by Japan and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), under the theme ‘One Protected World’.

HE Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari, represented the State of Qatar at the summit via videoconferencing.

The summit aims to strengthen international cooperation to secure the necessary funding for the COVID-19 vaccination program and accelerate access to effective and safe vaccines for lower-income countries.

Addressing the summit, HE Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari stressed Qatar’s support for COVAX facility to accelerate global access to COVID19 vaccines. “We stress the importance adhering to the political declaration on COVID-19 vaccines to ensure that all countries have access to vaccines in a comprehensive, equitable, affordable and timely manner,” said HE Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari.

“Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Qatar provided aids to over 80 countries severely impacted by the pandemic since last year. At the June 2020 Global Vaccine Summit held in London, HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani announced Qatar’s contribution of USD 20 million to the GAVI,” added HE the Minister.

“A core contribution agreement has followed this announcement, in which USD 10 million is donated to WHO to support WHO’s Thirteenth General Program of Work (GPW13) and the initiative of accelerating the access to COVID-19 tools in countries most in need. This donation makes Qatar one in only four countries that has donated unearmarked funds to WHO, in line with recent recommendation for flexible donations,” stated HE Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari.

“We also take pride in Qatar Red Crescent’s initiative, in collaboration with the WHO, which aims to allocate its charity donations to provide (COVID-19) vaccines to refugees, displaced persons and migrants around the world. The initiative was launched April 2021 and will run for three years.”

Her Excellency highlighted the prominent role Qatar Airways plays transporting Covid-19 vaccines and other vital supplies to impacted regions and communities worldwide. In this regard, Qatar Airways Cargo has delivered 27 million COVID-19 vaccines as of early April 2021, including COVID-19 vaccines for UNICEF as part of the five-year MoU to support UNICEFs Humanitarian Airfreight Initiative.

“It has become clear that putting an end to this pandemic requires effective international solidarity and a shared responsibility. Qatar affirms its commitment to supporting the efforts of the international community to ensure all countries, including lower-income countries, have equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. World health security requires joint international action to combat the health challenges that threaten us all. Let’s indeed come together for one world protected, leaving no one behind,” concluded HE Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari.

الدوحة: شاركت دولة قطر يوم الأمس في قمة /جافي – كوفاكس/، التي استضافتها اليابان والتحالف العالمي للقاحات والتحصين “جافي”، ونظمت تحت شعار “عالم واحد محمي”.

مثل دولة قطر في القمة ، التي أقيمت عبر تقنية الاتصال المرئي، سعادة الدكتورة حنان محمد الكواري، وزير الصحة العامة.

تهدف القمة إلى تعزيز التعاون الدولي لضمان إيجاد التمويلات اللازمة من أجل تسريع الجهود لوصول اللقاحات الآمنة والفعالة ضد (كوفيد-19) إلى الدول النامية.

وأكدت سعادة الدكتورة حنان محمد الكواري، في كلمتها أمام القمة، دعم دولة قطر لمرفق /كوفاكس/ الذي يهدف لإتاحة لقاحات (كوفيد-19) على الصعيد العالمي. وقالت “ما زلنا نؤكد على أهمية الالتزام بالإعلان السياسي بشأن الحصول المنصف على لقاحات (كوفيد-19) لضمان حصول جميع البلدان على اللقاحات بشكل شامل ومنصف وميسور التكلفة وفي الوقت المناسب”.

وأشارت سعادتها إلى أن دولة قطر بادرت، منذ بداية جائحة (كوفيد-19)، بتقديم مساعدات لأكثر من 80 دولة تضررت بشكل كبير من هذه الجائحة في العام الماضي.

ولفتت إلى أنه خلال القمة العالمية للقاحات التي عقدت في يونيو 2020، أعلن حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى عن مساهمة دولة قطر بمبلغ 20 مليون دولار للتحالف العالمي للقاحات والتحصين (جافي).

وأضافت أنه تبع هذا الإعلان توقيع اتفاقية مساهمة أساسية مع منظمة الصحة العالمية بقيمة 10 ملايين دولار لدعم برنامج العمل العام الثالث عشر للمنظمة، ومبادرة تسريع إتاحة أدوات مكافحة فيروس كورونا في الدول الأكثر احتياجاً.

ونوهت إلى أن دولة قطر تعتبر بهذه المساهمة، واحدة من أربع دول فقط قدمت مساهمات إضافية لمنظمة الصحة العالمية غير تلك المخصصة تماشياً مع توصياتها بمرونة المساهمات.

وتابعت: “كما نعتز بمبادرة الهلال الأحمر القطري بالتعاون مع منظمة الصحة العالمية والتي تسعى إلى تخصيص تبرعات لإتاحة لقاحات (كوفيد-19) للاجئين والنازحين والمهاجرين في العالم، حيث أطلقت المبادرة في شهر إبريل من هذا العام وتستمر ثلاث سنوات”.

كما أشارت سعادتها كذلك إلى الدور الهام الذي تؤديه الخطوط الجوية القطرية لنقل لقاحات (كوفيد-19) والمواد الضرورية إلى المناطق والمجتمعات المتضررة في مختلف أنحاء العالم، حيث قامت بنقل 27 مليون جرعة من لقاح كوفيد-19 منذ بداية إبريل 2021، ويشمل ذلك لقاحات كوفيد-19 المخصصة لمنظمة الأمم المتحدة للطفولة “اليونيسف” بناء على مذكرة التفاهم التي وقعتها الخطوط الجوية القطرية مع منظمة اليونيسف لمدة خمس سنوات وتهدف إلى دعم مبادرة اليونيسف للشحن الجوي للأغراض الإنسانية.

وشددت على أنه بات جلياً أن القضاء على هذا الفيروس يتطلب تضامناً دولياً فاعلاً ومسؤولية مشتركة، مؤكدة التزام دولة قطر بدعم جهود المجتمع الدولي الرامية لضمان وصول عادل للقاحات ضد فيروس (كوفيد-19) لمختلف أنحاء العالم ، بما في ذلك الدول النامية.

كما أكدت أن تحقيق الأمن الصحي العالمي يتطلب تعاوناً دولياً لمواجهة التحديات الصحية “التي تهددنا جميعاً، فلنتكاتف معاً من أجل عالم واحد، لا يستثني أحداً”.
