GU-Q Celebrates Graduation of Class of 2021

Doha: QF partner Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) recognized 71 students, including 53 women and 18 men, at a virtual commencement ceremony attended by dignitaries, friends, and families.

The 34 Qatari and 37 international and resident students will join a growing community of GU-Q alumni pursuing graduate degrees or working in a diverse range of industries in Qatar and beyond, including education, communications, government, business, banking, and technology.

Graduates of GU-Q earn a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) degree, Georgetowns globally recognized interdisciplinary program offered in four majors: Culture and Politics, International Economics, International History, and International Politics.

Dean of GU-Q Dr. Ahmad Dallal opened the formal ceremonies with a congratulatory message to students, saying: “Your class has demonstrated extraordinary resilience, creativity, and courage in the face of an unprecedented global crisis. Your academic success during these challenging times is especially worth celebrating and demonstrates a commitment to Georgetown Universitys core values of excellence and service to humanity. Now more than ever, we need your ideas, your hard work, and your commitment to addressing these challenges to make a better world for generations to come.” The ceremony also featured remarks from Dr. John J. DeGioia, President of Georgetown University.

HE Assistant Foreign Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lolwah Rashid Al Khater, who also serves as a member of the GU-Q joint advisory board, was the esteemed keynote speaker at the ceremony. “It is an honor to be a part of this celebration of a major milestone in your lives,” she said. “As ambitious, global citizens with a commitment to scholarship and service, you represent the best of Qatars investment in its human capital, helping to drive Qatar towards its future. Congratulations on your achievements and thank you for the lasting legacy of your many contributions to our community. I look forward to hearing about what you achieve next as Georgetown alumni.”

Prior to the virtual commencement, GU-Q honored major achievements of seniors, as well as faculty and staff, at the annual Tropaia Award Exercises, also held virtually this year. At the ceremony, Dean Dallal sent a special message of gratitude to students families whose support during a challenging year was even more critical for student success.

Starting with a student body of 25 students in 2005, GU-Q has now produced 635 highly skilled alumni representing more than 50 countries, and delivers the same internationally ranked curriculum as Georgetowns campus in Washington, DC. In addition to the four majors, students have the option of expanding their field of study through several minors and certificate programs, part of a rigorous, multidisciplinary curriculum that is taught in a supportive learning environment.

الدوحة: احتفلت جامعة جورجتاون في قطر، إحدى الجامعات الشريكة لمؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، بتخريج دفعة 2021 والتي تضم 71 طالبا، من بينهم 53 فتاة و18 شابا، في حفل افتراضي حضره عدد من كبار الشخصيات وأصدقاء وعائلات الخريجين.

وقد حصل خريجو دفعة 2021 على درجة بكالوريوس العلوم في الشؤون الدولية، وهو برنامج متعدد التخصصات معترف به عالميًا من جامعة جورجتاون ويتم تقديمه في أربعة تخصصات: الثقافة والسياسة، والاقتصاد الدولي، والتاريخ الدولي، والسياسة الدولية.

وسينضم هؤلاء الخريجون وهم 34 قطريا و37 من جنسيات مختلفة إلى مجتمع خريجي جامعة جورجتاون في قطر الذين يسعون للحصول على شهادات عليا أو يعملون في مجموعة متنوعة من المجالات في قطر وخارجها، بما في ذلك التعليم والاتصالات والحكومة والأعمال والمصارف والتكنولوجيا.

وأعربت سعادة السيدة لولوة بنت راشد الخاطر، مساعد وزير الخارجية والمتحدث الرسمي لوزارة الخارجية، وعضو في المجلس الاستشاري المشترك للجامعة، ضيفة الحفل والمتحدث الرئيسي به، عن امتنانها لكونها جزءا من هذا الاحتفال بإنجاز كبير في حياة الطلبة، قائلة “ولأنكم مواطنون عالميون طموحون ملتزمون بالبحث الأكاديمي والخدمة، فأنتم تمثلون أفضل استثمار لدولة قطر في رأس مالها البشري، مما يساعد على دفع قطر نحو مستقبل أفضل. تهانينا على إنجازاتكم وشكرًا لكم على الإرث المستمر من مساهماتكم في مجتمعنا، وأتطلع إلى سماع ما ستحققونه بعد ذلك بصفتكم خريجي جامعة جورجتاون”.

من جانبه، أكد الدكتور أحمد دلال عميد جامعة جورجتاون في قطر، أن هذه الدفعة من الطلبة أظهرت قدرا ملموسا من المرونة والصلابة الاستثنائية وإبداعا وشجاعة في مواجهة أزمة عالمية غير مسبوقة ، ويستحق نجاحهم الأكاديمي خلال هذه الأوقات الصعبة احتفالا استثنائيا يظهر التزامًا خاصا بالقيم الأساسية لجامعة جورجتاون المتمثلة في التميز وخدمة الإنسانية.

وتابع قائلا “الآن أكثر من أي وقت مضى، نحن بحاجة إلى أفكاركم، وعملكم الجاد، والتزامكم بمواجهة هذه التحديات لجعل العالم أفضل للأجيال القادمة”.

ومنذ افتتاح الجامعة عام 2005 خّرجت جورجتاون في قطر حتى الآن 635 خريجا من ذوي المهارات العالية يمثلون أكثر من 50 دولة، ويتلقون نفس المنهج المصنف دوليًا الممنوح في حرم جامعة جورجتاون في واشنطن العاصمة. وبالإضافة إلى التخصصات الرئيسية الأربعة، يتمتع الطلاب بخيارات توسيع مجال دراستهم من خلال العديد من برامج الشهادات والتخصصات الفرعية، وهي جزء من منهج صارم متعدد التخصصات يتم تدريسه في بيئة تعليمية داعمة.
