Sharks Surprise Omani Fishermen

Doha: Omani fishermen were surprised by sharks that had eaten the bait they had thrown in their longline fishing nets to catch fish in Omani waters.

According to the Omani newspaper Al-Shabiba, fishermen about 20 kilometres from the Daymaniyat Islands were surprised by strange fish covered with thorns and a thick layer of mucus. They thought and believed that they were pulling hamour fish from the depths for their weight, but the newspaper explained that it was a shark known as the “bramble shark”

The newspaper added that these sharks are found in small numbers in all tropical and temperate oceans and seas of the world, including the Sultanate of Oman, noting that the length of one shark is about 3 meters and its maximum weight is about 200 kilograms.

The newspaper reported that some fishermen in The Sultanate reported numbers of these sharks in their longline fishing nets, but most of the time they did not document enough pictures and videos and got rid of them because they felt their lack of marketing feasibility and perhaps also because of their strange form and their viscosity which they resembled to severe melting!

الدوحة: تفاجأ صيادون عمانيون بأسماك قرش التهمت طعوما كانوا قد ألقوا بها بين “الشكات” لاصطياد الأسماك بالمياه العمانية.

ووفق صحيفة “الشبيبة” العمانية، فقد تفاجأ الصيادون على بعد حوالي ٢٠ كيلومترا من جزر الديمانيات بأسماك غريبة تغطيها الأشواك وطبقة سميكة من المخاط احتاروا في أمرها.. وكانوا يظنون ويمنون النفس وهم يسحبونها من الأعماق أنها هوامير لثقلها، ولكن أوضحت الصحيفة أنها من أسماك القرش المعروف باسم “قرش العليق الشائك”.

وأضافت الصحيفة أنها تتواجد بأعداد قليلة في جميع محيطات وبحار العالم الاستوائية والمعتدلة من بينها سلطنة عمان، مشيرة إلى أن طول القرش الواحد نحو ٣ أمتار ويبلغ الحد الأقصى لوزنها حوالي ٢٠٠ كيلوغرام .

وأفادت الصحيفة بأن بعض الصيادين في السلطنة أفادوا بوقوع أعداد منها في شكاتهم إلا أنهم لم يوثقوها بما يكفي من الصور والفيديوهات في معظم الأحيان وتخلصوا منها لشعورهم بعدم جدواها التسويقية وربما أيضا لشكلها الغريب ولزوجتها التي شبهوها بالذوبان الشديد!!
