Pfizer and Moderna vaccines protect against mutated strains

Doha: Dr. Nasser Ali Al Ansari, a consultant microbiologist, Chairman of Infection Control and a member of the crisis committee at Hamad Medical Corporation, confirmed that the vaccines available in Qatar “Pfizer-bioNTech and Moderna” can protect against 95% of the serious symptoms of the virus-mutated strains, Pointing out that the UK strain is the most prevalent in Qatar, and that the two available vaccines protect against the dangerous symptoms of this strain and the African and Brazilian strains, but he explained that the British strain is the most severe in terms of symptoms.
Dr. Al Ansari, said on an interview for the “Social Distance” program on Qatar TV yesterday evening: “Vaccines generally protect against the serious symptoms of the disease, even if the infection was with one of the mutated strains of the virus It also protects against symptoms that may warrant intensive care or even death”. He added “There are mutated strains of the virus that appear every once in a while, but the virus is the same, these strains differ in their spreading speed, but still have the same method of spread and infection. The danger of mutated strains is their rapid spread.”

الدوحة: أكد الدكتور ناصر علي الأنصاري، استشاري الميكروبات ومكافحة العدوى، عضو لجنة الأزمات بمؤسسة حمد الطبية، أن لقاحي «فايزر-بيونتيك» و«مودرنا» المتاحين في قطر لمواجهة فيروس كورونا المستجد «كوفيد-19» يحميان بنسبة 95% من الأعراض الخطيرة للسلالات المُتحورة للفيروس، مشيرًا إلى أن السلالة البريطانية هي الأكثر انتشارًا في قطر، وأن اللقاحين المتوفرين يحميان من الأعراض الخطيرة لهذه السلالة والسلالتين الإفريقية والبرازيلية، لكنه أوضح أن السلالة البريطانية هي الأكثر شدة من حيث الأعراض.
وقال د. الأنصاري، لبرنامج «المسافة الاجتماعية» المذاع على تلفزيون قطر مساء أمس: إن اللقاحات بشكل عام تحمي من الأعراض الخطيرة للمرض، حتى وإن كانت الإصابة بالسلالات المتحورة من الفيروس، كما تحمي كذلك من الأعراض التي قد تستدعي دخول العناية المُركزة أو قد تؤدي للوفاة. وتابع: هناك سلالات متحورة للفيروس تظهر كل فترة، لكن الفيروس هو نفسه، والفرق في سرعة الانتشار والتسبب في الإصابة بالمرض، لكن طريقة الانتشار والعدوى نفسها لجميع السلالات، والخطورة في الأمر هي مدى انتشار السلالات المُتحورة بسرعة أكبر.
