HBKU Translation Institute to Hold International Conference on March 24

Doha: The Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII), part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), will hold its 11th International Translation Conference online on March 24.

Registration is open to all researchers, practitioners, and students with an interest in the field. TII has designed this years conference format as a series of online academic panels, keynote speeches, and a specialized webinar on interpreting.

The conference is being held under the theme “COVID 19 and Current Changes in Translation and Interpreting Studies”, and is set to explore how the pandemic is reshaping translation and interpreting, academically, professionally, and socio-economically. Among the topics that will be closely considered are translation theory, the translator training after the COVID-19 outbreak, interpreters narratives of the COVID-19 pandemic, COVID-19 meets Twitter, conference interpreters experiences, Localizing COVID-19, and work-family interface and job outcomes among translators and interpreters.

The 11th TII conference will welcome 17 speakers from more than 10 countries, including but not limited to the United Kingdom, United States, Qatar, Spain, Poland, Hungary, Algeria, and Slovakia.

Founding Dean of CHSS Dr. Amal Al Malki said: “The Annual International Translation Conference was first launched in 2010 to create a Gulf-based platform to discuss issues related to translation at both the theoretical and practical levels. For the 11th version of the conference, it is imperative to focus on the impact of the global pandemic on the studies and practice of translation and interpreting. The conference will focus scholarly interventions and showcase applied research outputs that conceptualize the changes brought about or accelerated by the pandemic, as they relate to intercultural communication. TII invites everyone to participate in its 11th International Translation Conference, and we look forward to welcoming an exceptionally diverse audience, given the virtual format of the conference.”

الدوحة: يعقد معهد دراسات الترجمة، التابع لكلية العلوم الإنسانية والاجتماعية بجامعة حمد بن خليفة، مؤتمره الدولي الحادي عشر للترجمة يوم 24 مارس الجاري، عبر الإنترنت.

وسيقام المؤتمر، الذي يتاح التسجيل فيه لجميع الباحثين والممارسين والطلاب المهتمين، تحت عنوان “جائحة /كوفيد-19/ والتغيرات الحالية في دراسات الترجمة”، لتسليط الضوء على كيف أعادت الجائحة صياغة شكل الترجمة التحريرية والشفهية أكاديميًا ومهنيًا واجتماعيًا واقتصاديًا.

وقد صمم المعهد مؤتمر هذا العام في شكل سلسلة من حلقات نقاش أكاديمية وكلمات رئيسية وندوات متخصصة حول الترجمة على شبكة الإنترنت.

ومن بين المحاور التي ستُطرح للبحث والنقاش، نظريات الترجمة، والبرامج التدريبية للمترجمين في أعقاب انتشار جائحة /كوفيد-19/، وروايات المترجمين الفوريين حول هذه الجائحة وترجمة التغريدات الخاصة بها على موقع /تويتر/، وتجارب المترجمين الفوريين في المؤتمرات، وتوطين المحتوى المتعلق بالجائحة والتوفيق بين التزامات العمل والالتزامات العائلية، والنتائج الوظيفية بين المترجمين التحريريين والفوريين.

وقالت الدكتورة أمل المالكي، العميدة المؤسسة لكلية العلوم الإنسانية والاجتماعية “عُقد المؤتمر الدولي السنوي للترجمة للمرة الأولى في عام 2010 لإنشاء منصة خليجية لمناقشة القضايا المتعلقة بالترجمة على الصعيدين النظري والعملي. وبالنسبة للنسخة الحادية عشرة من المؤتمر، من الضروري التركيز على تأثير الجائحة العالمية على دراسات وممارسات الترجمة التحريرية والشفهية”.. مشيرة إلى أن المؤتمر سيركز على التدخلات البحثية وسيعرض مخرجات البحوث التطبيقية التي تتناول التغييرات التي أحدثتها الجائحة أو سرعت من حدوثها، مع مناقشة صلتها بالتواصل بين الثقافات.
