Qatar International Rally: Nasser al-Attiyah front-runner for the title

Doha: Qatar International Rally, which marks the opening round of the 38th edition of the Middle East Rally Championship, kicks off next Friday from the Cultural Village “Katara, with the participation of 18 teams representing nine countries, and the Federation has completed all organizational and technical matters in the assembly areas and the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the rally track that will be held this year in Al Khor.
Strict precautionary restrictions will be imposed, as they will be subject to the medical bubble system during the rally period, in order to keep everyone safe and not exposed to danger, as part of the stringent protocols of the New Coronavirus (Covid-19) imposed by the Qatari government.
The legendary world champion Nasser bin Saleh al-Attiyah is the leading candidate to win this year’s title in 2021, where he hopes to return to the competition strongly through the national rally of country and winning the first category (T1).
Al-Attiyah is seeking a new record of reaching his 15th victory in his country’s rally, and the 76th in his career at the Middle East Rally Championship, in which he looks to achieve his 17th title.
Among the competitors nominated to ascend the podium in the strongest category will be famous names, most notably Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, who has missed participation in recent years, but the support of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation pushed Abdulaziz Al Kuwari back into the world of rally in his renewed quest to win the rally of his country, which he had already achieved in 2012 along with his younger brother Nasser al-Kuwari.
Veteran champion Nasser bin Khalifa al-Attiyah, driver Khalid al-Suwaidi and Omani driver Abdullah al-Rawahi will also take part.
In the MERC 2 category, eight teams will compete for the title, led by Kuwaiti Mshari al-Dhafiri, who will seek to retain his title again, but this season he will face strong competition from his compatriot Jassim al-Maqhwai, Omanis Zakaria Al Ameri and Zakaria Al-Oufi, Lebanese Shadi al-Faqih and Ahmed Khaled, and Qataris Rashid Al-Muhannadi Abdul Rahman al-Attiyah, who is participating for the first time.
Meanwhile, Qatari champion Khaled al-Muhannadi and Lebanese driver Jad al-Awar benefited from the new rules of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), which allow the inclusion of the T4 category in the Middle East Championship 2021, where al-Muhannadi is the leading candidate for victory, especially after his recent superiority in Baja Qatar and winning the title of the championship.

الدوحة: ينطلق الجمعة القادم من الحي الثقافي (كتارا) رالي قطر الدولي والذي يمثل الجولة الافتتاحية من النسخة الثامنة والثلاثين من بطولة الشرق الأوسط للراليات، وسط مشاركة 18 فريقا يمثلون تسع دول، وقد أنهى الاتحاد كافة الأمور التنظيمية والفنية بمناطق التجمع وحفلي الافتتاح والختام وأيضاً مسار الرالي الذي سيقام هذا العام في منطقة الخور وشمالها.
وسيتم فرض قيود احترازية مشددة، حيث سيخضعون لنظام الفقاعة الطبية خلال فترة الرالي، وذلك من أجل الحفاظ على سلامة الجميع وعدم تعريضهم للمخاطر، ضمن بروتوكولات فيروس كورونا المستجد (كوفيد-19)، المشددة والتي تفرضها الحكومة القطرية.
ويعد الأسطورة البطل العالمي ناصر بن صالح العطية حامل اللقب أبرز المرشحين لإحراز لقب هذا العام 2021، حيث يأمل العودة إلى المنافسات بقوة من خلال رالي بلاده وتحقيق الفوز في الفئة الأولى (تي1).
ويسعى العطية إلى تحقيق رقم قياسي جديد يتمثل في الوصول إلى انتصاره الـ15 في رالي بلاده، والـ 76 في مسيرته خلال بطولة الشرق الأوسط للراليات الذي يبحث عن لقبها السابع عشر.
كما سيكون من بين المنافسين المرشحين للصعود إلى منصة التتويج في الفئة الأقوى، أسماء شهيرة أبرزهم عبدالعزيز الكواري، الذي غاب عن المشاركة في الأعوام الأخيرة، إلا أن الدعم الذي حصل من قبل الاتحاد القطري للسيارات والدراجات النارية دفع عبدالعزيز الكواري للعودة مجددا إلى عالم الراليات في سعيه المتجدد للفوز برالي بلاده الذي سبق له أن حقق هذا الانجاز في عام 2012 إلى جانب شقيقه الاصغر ناصر الكواري.
كما سيشارك البطل المخضرم ناصر بن خليفة العطية، والسائق خالد السويدي، والسائق العماني عبدالله الرواحي.
وعلى صعيد منافسات فئة MERC 2 ستتنافس ثمانية فرق للحصول على اللقب يتصدرهم الكويتي مشاري الظفيري حامل اللقب، والذي سيسعى للاحتفاظ بلقبه من جديد، لكنه سيواجه هذا الموسم منافسة قوية من مواطنه جاسم المقهوي، والعمانيين زكريا العامري وزكريا العوفي، واللبنانيين شادي الفقيه وأحمد خالد، والقطريين راشد المهندي ومحمد عبدالرحمن العطية الذي يشارك للمرة الأولى.
وعلى نفس الصعيد، استفاد البطل القطري خالد المهندي والسائق اللبناني جاد الأعور من القوانين الجديدة للاتحاد الدولي للسيارات، والتي تسمح بإدراج فئة (تي4) ضمن بطولة الشرق الأوسط 2021، حيث يعد البطل المهندي المرشح الأبرز لتحقيق الفوز خاصة بعد تفوقه مؤخرا في باها قطر وحصد لقب البطولة.
