London: A scientific study conducted by British researchers at the University of Exeter concluded the importance of measuring blood pressure in the arms, stressing the importance of the process in saving lives.
The researchers, according to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, concluded that the difference in blood pressure between the arms is an indicator of an increased risk of heart attacks, strokes and death, pointing out that these results were based on data collected from 24 global studies, conducted on 54 thousand people in Europe, the United States, Africa and Asia.
Dr. Chris Clark, who is the study’s supervisor, said: “Examining one arm and then the other with a routinely used sphygmomanometer is cheap and can be carried out anywhere for health care without the need for additional or expensive equipment,” stressing the need not to overlook this by health workers “because of its great importance to the health of patients”. He stated that the Guidelines of the World Association against Hypertension advise health workers to measure blood pressure in the arms when assessing the risk of cardiovascular disease “but this advice is widely ignored while it is an important means of preventing heart disease.”

خلصت دراسة علمية أجراها باحثون بريطانيون في جامعة إكستر إلى أهمية قياس ضغط الدم في الذراعين، مُؤكدة أهمية العملية في إنقاذ الأرواح.
وتوصل الباحثون، وفق ما نقلته صحيفة «ديلي ميل» البريطانية، إلى أن الاختلاف في ضغط الدم بين الذراعين يُعد مؤشرًا على زيادة خطر الإصابة بنوبات القلب والسكتات الدماغية والموت، لافتين إلى أن هذه النتائج اعتمدت على بيانات تم جمعها من 24 دراسة عالمية، أجريت على 54 ألف شخص في أوروبا، والولايات المتحدة، وإفريقيا وآسيا.
وقال الدكتور كريس كلارك، المُشرف على هذه الدراسة: إن «فحص ذراع واحدة ثم الأخرى بجهاز قياس ضغط الدم المُستخدم بشكل روتيني هو أمر رخيص ويمكن تنفيذه في أي مكان للرعاية الصحية دون الحاجة إلى معدات إضافية أو باهظة الثمن»، مُشددًا على ضرورة عدم التغافل عن القيام بهذا الأمر من قبل العاملين بقطاع الصحية «نظرًا لأهميته الكبيرة على صحة المرضى». وذكر أن توجيهات الرابطة العالمية لمُكافحة ارتفاع ضغط الدم تنصح العاملين في مجال الصحة بقياس ضغط الدم في الذراعين عند تقييم خطر أمراض القلب والأوعية الدموية «إلا أن هذه النصيحة يتم تجاهلها بشكل واسع في الوقت الذي تعتبر فيه وسيلة هامة للوقاية من أمراض القلب».
