India hunts tiger that killed 8 people in two years

Bombay: Indian authorities are hunting a tiger that killed a person on Monday night, his eighth victim in two years. The tiger attacked an elderly man from a town in the Khambada region (about 660 kilometres from Bombay) who was trying to bring some firewood for heating, tearing him apart and killing him. “We tried to catch the tiger with tranquilizer darts, but we couldn’t do it,” Maharashtra State Forestry Management Authority official N.R. Pravin told AFP.
Some 225 people were killed in India between 2014 and 2019 as a result of tiger attacks, according to police statistics. India is home to about 70 percent of the world’s tigers. The government noted that the number of tigers increased to 2967 in 2018 from 1411 in 2006.

وقتل نحو 225 شخصًا في الهند بين العامين 2014 و2019 جرّاء هجمات نمور، بحسب إحصاءات الشرطة.وتضم الهند نحو 70 في المئة من مجمل النمور في العالم. وأشارت الحكومة إلى أن عدد النمور عاود الارتفاع إلى 2967 العام 2018 بعدما كان تراجع إلى 1411 العام 2006.
