Commencement of Upgrading Works on Roundabouts Known as Muaither Sports Club and Plastic Roundabouts on Al Sailiya Road

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the commencement of upgrade works at the Muaither Sports Club and Plastic roundabouts on Al Sailiya Road, which will eventually convert both roundabouts into signallised intersections.

The scope of works also involves the development of local roads (6km) and the construction of service roads

As part of the Road Improvement Works for Junctions and Roundabouts in Various Areas of Greater Doha (Phase 9), the main purpose of these upgrades is to enhance road capacity in the area and ease traffic congestion, Ashghal has said in a statement.

Traffic diversion until Feb 2022

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced that the number of lanes available on Al Sailiya Road will be reduced to two lanes in each direction instead of three, from 50m before the Muaither Sports Club Roundabout to 50m after the Plastic Roundabout.

This will be done to facilitate the implementation of roadworks for the upgrade of Muaither Sports Club and Plastic roundabouts on Al Sailiya Road as part of the Road Improvement Works for Junctions and Roundabouts in Various Areas of Greater Doha (Phase 9).

This diversion will be implemented, in co-ordination with the General Directorate of Traffic, until February 2022, Ashghal has said.

The authority will instal road signs advising motorists of the closure. It has requested all road users to abide by the speed limit and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.

Mooza al-Sowaidi, head of the Doha City Section in the Roads Projects Department at Ashghal, said: “The development of the roundabouts known as Muaither Sports Club Roundabout and Plastic Roundabout on Al Sailiya Road, and converting them into signal-controlled intersections, will regulate local traffic and improve traffic flow in the area. These works are part of Ashghal’s efforts to improve the existing service utilities and upgrade the road network in Doha city in order to respond to the national economic development and social growth requirements in Qatar.”

Al-Sowaidi emphasised the importance of the project as both roundabouts are located on Al Sailiya Road, which is directly connected to Al Waab Street and West Industrial Street. These two roundabouts also serve many sports facilities and health institutions such as Muaither Sports Club and Muaither Health Centre. Besides, they facilitate access to many commercial centres and educational institutions.

Further to upgrading the two roundabouts and converting them to signallised intersections, the project will include other road developments at both new intersections with a total length of 6km, and the construction of new service roads. The scope of works will also include providing pedestrian footpaths of around 12km in length, cycle paths at approximately the same length (12km), landscaping works and upgrading street lighting systems. Further, the project will improve infrastructure utilities, such as the treated sewage effluent network and surface water drainage network, and will provide protection for the existing electricity and telecommunications cables.

The project will be implemented by JH Construction Company under the supervision of Gulf Engineering and Industrial Consultancy, and is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2022.

أعلنت هيئة الأشغال العامة “أشغال” عن بدء العمل في تطوير الدوار المعروف بنادي معيذر الرياضي والدوار المعروف بدوار البلاستيك على طريق السيلية بهدف تحويلهما إلى تقاطعين بإشارات ضوئية إلى جانب تنفيذ أعمال تطوير الطرق المجاورة لهما بطول 6 كم وإنشاء طرق خدمية.

ويهدف هذا التطوير إلى تعزيز القدرة الاستيعابية للحركة المرورية بالمنطقة وتخفيف الازدحام، وذلك ضمن مشروع تحسين الطرق والتقاطعات والدوارات في مناطق عديدة من الدوحة الكبرى (المرحلة 9).

وأشارت المهندسة موزة السويدي، رئيسة قسم مشاريع مدينة الدوحة في “أشغال” إلى أن أعمال تطوير الدوارين ستعمل على تنظيم الحركة وتحسين الانسيابية المرورية في المنطقة، وذلك في إطار الجهود الذي تبذلها الهيئة لتحسين المرافق والخدمات الموجودة وتطوير شبكة الطرق بمدينة الدوحة بما يستجيب لمتطلبات النمو الاقتصادي والاجتماعي في البلاد.

وأكدت على أهمية المشروع كون الدوارين يقعان على طريق السيلية الذي يتصل مباشرة بشارع الوعب وشارع الصناعية الغربي بالإضافة إلى كونهما يخدمان العديد من المنشآت الرياضية والصحية إلى جانب تسهيلهما الوصول إلى عدة مراكز تجارية ومؤسسات تعليمية.

وأضافت أنه فضلاً عن تحويل الدوارين إلى تقاطعين بإشارات ضوئية، ستشمل أعمال المشروع تطوير الطرق عند التقاطعين الجديدين بإجمالي 6 كم وإنشاء طرق خدمية وتوفير مسارات للمشاة بطول حوالي 12 كم وأخرى مخصصة للدراجات الهوائية بنفس الطول تقريباً (12 كم) بالإضافة إلى تنفيذ أعمال تشجير وتجميل وتطوير أنظمة الإنارة. كما ستتضمن أعمال التطوير ضمن نطاق المشروع، تحسين خدمات مرافق البنية التحتية، حيث سيتم تحديث خطوط شبكة المياه المعالجة وشبكة تصريف المياه السطحية ومياه الأمطار إلى جانب حماية خطوط الكهرباء والاتصالات ومن المخطط أن يتم الانتهاء من تنفيذ كامل المشروع في الربع الأول من عام 2022.

تجدر الإشارة إلى أنه لإتاحة المجال أمام تنفيذ الأعمال التطويرية، سيتم تخفيض عدد المسارات المتوفرة على طريق السيلية من ثلاثة مسارات في كل اتجاه إلى مسارين في كل اتجاه قبل 50 مترا من الدوارين.

من جهة أخرى أعلنت هيئة الأشغال العامة “أشغال” عن إغلاق في اتجاه واحد على شارع الأصمخ بطول 650 مترا وذلك في المسارات المتجهة من تقاطع قلعة الكوت إلى تقاطع الأصمخ، اعتباراً من يوم /الثلاثاء/ المقبل ولمدة خمسة أشهر.

ويهدف الإغلاق إلى إتاحة المجال لتنفيذ أعمال تطوير البنية التحتية وأعمال التجميل بشارع الأصمخ، ضمن مشروع تطوير وتجميل وسط الدوحة – الحزمة الثالثة.

وستقوم هيئة الأشغال العامة بتركيب اللوحات الإرشادية لتنبيه مستخدمي الطريق بهذا التغيير المروري.
