Lord Mayor of City of London to visit Qatar to strengthen trade links

عمدة الحي المالي لمدينة لندن يزور قطر لتعزيز الروابط التجارية

The Lord Mayor of the City of London, an Ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services industry, will visit Qatar this week at the head of a business delegation which aims to strengthen trade links between the City of London and Qatar.

William Russell, the Lord Mayor, is expected to meet with Minister of Finance, HE Ali Shareef Al Emadi, CEO of Qatar Investment Authority, H E Mansoor Ebrahim Al Mahmoud, and the Governor of Qatar Central Bank, H E Sheikh Abdulla binSaoud Al Thani.

The Lord Mayor will also deliver opening remarks at the Qatar-UK Financial Services Event, an event jointly organised by Qatar Central Bank and the UK Department for International Trade, taking place on 12 February.  Lord Mayor Russell, the 692nd incumbent of a role that dates back centuries, is the leader of London’s ‘Square Mile,’ or financial district, and has over thirty years’ experience in City, including holding senior positions in the national and international banking sector.

Commenting on his visit to Qatar, William Russell, the Lord Mayor of London said: “Qatar is an important investment partner for the City of London and the wider UK. We strongly value our long-standing partnerships with Qatar’s financial institutions, and the City of London also stands ready to support Qatar as it develops its financial services sector.

يزور عمدة الحي المالي لمدينة لندن، بصفته سفيراً لقطاع الخدمات المالية والمهنية في المملكة المتحدة، دولة قطر هذا الأسبوع مترئساً وفداً من رجال الأعمال، وتهدف الزيارة إلى تعزيز الروابط التجارية بين قطر والحي المالي لمدينة لندن.

من المتوقع أن يلتقي عمدة الحي المالي السيد ويليام راسل بسعادة السيد علي شريف العمادي وزير المالية، وسعادة السيد منصور بن إبراهيم آل محمود الرئيس التنفيذي لجهاز قطر للاستثمار، وسعادة الشيخ عبدالله بن سعود آل ثاني محافظ مصرف قطر المركزي.

وسوف يُلقي عمدة الحي المالي الكلمة الافتتاحية في الفعالية التي يشترك في تنظيمها مصرف قطر المركزي ووزارة التجارة الدولية البريطانية يوم 12 فبراير حول التعاون بين قطر والمملكة المتحدة في قطاع الخدمات المالية.

السيد ويليام راسل هو العمدة رقم 692 للحي المالي لمدينة لندن، وهو منصب يرجع تاريخه لقرون. كما يتولى السيد راسل قيادة حي المال في لندن المعروف باسم «Square Mile»، ويمتلك خبرة تزيد عن 30 عاماً في العمل في الحي المالي، حيث شغل مناصب رفيعة في القطاع المصرفي الوطني والدولي.
