Ministry unveils monitoring vessels for maritime security and environment protection

Doha: The Ministry of Transport and Communications unveiled monitoring vessels as part of the Monitoring Vessels Project at the Pearl–Qatar in the presence of several officials representing various departments working in the maritime transport industry.
The monitoring vessels, which will be deployed on Qatari waters and ports, will support the security and safety of maritime navigation and protection of marine environment.
The new vessels will be used to carry out tasks that will enhance maritime safety like investigating maritime accidents and inspecting Qatari seagoing vessels to ensure that they meet all legal, safety and security requirements according to the law on Maritime Vessels.
They will also inspect foreign vessels at anchorage area to ensure compliance with maritime safety requirements enunciated in international maritime conventions, in addition to following up on navigational aid system and detecting any marine pollution and reporting it to the bodies concerned.
“The Monitoring Vessels Project comes within the framework of Ministry effort to develop maritime transport works across the country in line with commitments, conventions and duties advocated and sought by the International Maritime Organization,” said Assistant Undersecretary of Maritime Transport Affairs, MOTC, Dr Saleh bin Fetais Al Marri.
He added that the monitoring vessels, which began work already, are among the most modern in the world, using high technology and will enhance ensuring maritime safety and security and protecting lives and property at sea as well as preserving the marine environment.
He also said that the maritime transport sector at MOTC will continue work on keeping up with latest developments in transport and navigation industry, in addition to launching projects that support the country’s economic activities and serve citizens and residents, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
دشنت وزارة المواصلات والاتصالات مشروع سفن الرصد من (اللؤلؤة قطر)، بحضور عدد من مسؤولي الجهات العاملة في القطاع البحري.
وبهذه المناسبة قال الدكتور صالح بن فطيس المري وكيل الوزارة المساعد لشؤون النقل البحري في وزارة المواصلات والاتصالات، إن مشروع سفن الرصد يأتي في إطار الجهود التي تبذلها الوزارة لتطوير أعمال قطاع النقل البحري في الدولة، وفق الالتزامات والاتفاقيات والواجبات التي تدعو وتهدف لها المنظمة البحرية الدولية (IMO).
كما أوضح أن سفن الرصد التي باشرت أعمالها تعتبر من أحدث السفن على مستوى العالم، وتستخدم تكنولوجيا عالية جداً، وستعزز من خلال عملها ضمان تحقيق الأمن والسلامة البحرية، والحفاظ على الأرواح والممتلكات في البحار، والحفاظ على البيئة البحرية.
وأكد أن قطاع النقل البحري في الوزارة سيواصل مسيرة عمله في مواكبة كافة تطورات قطاع النقل والملاحة البحرية، إضافة إلى إطلاق مشاريع تدعم الأنشطة الاقتصادية بالدولة وتخدم المواطنين والمقيمين، تماشيا مع رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030.
وذكرت الوزارة أن سفن الرصد التي سيتم تسيرها في المياه والموانئ القطرية، ستدعم تحقيق سلامة وأمن الملاحة البحرية، وحماية البيئة البحرية.
وأفادت بأن السفن ستستخدم لتنفيذ العديد من الأعمال التي تساهم في ضمان السلامة البحرية ومن أهمها التحقيق في أعمال الحوادث البحرية، ومعاينة وسائل ووسائط النقل البحرية القطرية للتأكد من استيفائها للاشتراطات القانونية والتزامها بمعدات الأمن والسلامة وفق قانون الوسائط، ومعاينة السفن التي تعمل في مشاريع الدولة للتأكد من التزامها بتصريح العمل وشروط السلامة البحرية، وكذلك معاينة السفن الأجنبية للتأكد من التزامها بشروط السلامة البحرية الواردة بالاتفاقيات البحرية الدولية، بالإضافة إلى متابعة منظومة عمل المساعدات الملاحية، ورصد أي وجود تلوث بحري وإبلاغ الجهات المسؤولة.
