Amir, Brazilian President review strategic ties

Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, held yesterday a session of official talks at the Amiri Diwan.

During the session, both sides discussed the strong relations between the two friendly countries and ways of developing and pushing them forward to include new aspects of bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of politics, economy, energy, military industries and food security, in addition to encouraging investment in the private sector in both countries as well as in the sporta sector as Brazil is a partner in infrastructure projects to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.

They discussed the most important regional and international issues in a way that contributes to supporting and enhancing security and stability in the region and the world.

The meeting was attended by a number of Their Excellencies Ministers, and from the Brazilian side by Their Excellencies members of the official delegation accompanying the President. An official reception was held for the President of Brazil upon his arrival at the Amiri Diwan.

In a joint statement after the talks, the two sides expressed their satisfaction at the excellent level accomplished by their bilateral relations in the political, economic and investment fields in the year of the celebration of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Brazil. Both countries signed two bilateral agreements and four memorandums of understanding.

H H the Amir and the Brazilian President witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between the two governments at the Amiri Diwan.

They witnessed the signing of an agreement on the joint exemption of visa requirements for ordinary passport holders and a bilateral air services agreement.

They also witnessed the signing of an MoU on cooperation in the health field and an MoU in the diplomatic training field between the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the State of Qatar and the Rio Branco Institute of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

H H the Amir and the Brazilian President also witnessed the signing of an MoU on cooperation in major international events and an MoU on defence matters between Qatar’s Ministry of Defence and Brazil’s Ministry of Defence.

The signing ceremony was attended by a number of Their Excellencies Ministers, as well as members of the official delegation accompanying the Brazilian President.

H H the Amir hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of the visiting President and his delegation accompanying him at the Amiri Diwan. The banquet was attended by a number of Their Excellencies the ministers, businessmen and notables.

In a joint statement of Qatar and Brazil, the two sides expressed their satisfaction at the excellent level accomplished by their relations in the political, economic and investment fields in the year of the celebration of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Brazil.

A number of agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed during the visit, namely Agreement on air services; Agreement between the Government of Qatar and the Government of Brazil for mutual exemption of entry visa for holders of ordinary passports; Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of health; Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation on major international events; Memorandum of Understanding in the field of diplomatic training; Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Defence of Qatar and the Ministry of Defence of Brazil on defence-related issues.

The two leaders decided to deepen bilateral relations and to strengthen economic cooperation and partnerships in fields such as infrastructure, agribusiness, energy, defense and science and technology. They acknowledged that these agreements and those already existing would strengthen the framework for the consolidation of the friendship and cooperation between Qatar and Brazil. The two leaders had the opportunity to address topics of regional and global concern.

Acknowledging that the agreement on defence cooperation signed will provide the required framework to strengthen bilateral defence ties, the two leaders agreed to provide further impetus to these relations. The two sides discussed various avenues and instruments for Qatari investments in Brazil. The President, Jair Bolsonaro, attended a high-level round table that provided updated information to the Qatari business leadership on Brazils positive macroeconomic scenario and new investment opportunities.

Both sides coincided in the assessment that the bilateral economic relationship offers a significant potential yet to be tapped. Authorities from the trade and investment promotion as well as the business communities of both countries were encouraged to explore new common endeavours in areas such as infrastructure, transportation, energy, agribusiness, defence and innovation.

The Qatari side thanked the Brazilian participation in the infrastructure development projects undertaken by Qatar in preparation for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Both, the Qatari and Brazilian sides, agreed to promote further partnerships between the private sectors of both countries while exploring opportunities created through the current economic reforms in Brazil and through the development plans under Qatar National Vision 2030.

Both parties expressed strong condemnation of the phenomenon of the international terrorism, urging the need for enhancing cooperation together to tackle out this global threat which endangered all nations and societies. They further confirmed their rejection of terrorism in all its forms and the need to disseminate the culture of peace.

كما جرى خلال الجلسة مناقشة أبرز القضايا الإقليمية والدولية بما يساهم في دعم وتعزيز الأمن والاستقرار في المنطقة والعالم.

حضر الجلسة عدد من أصحاب السعادة الوزراء، ومن الجانب البرازيلي حضرها أصحاب السعادة أعضاء الوفد الرسمي المرافق لفخامة الرئيس. وكانت قد أقيمت لفخامة رئيس البرازيل مراسم استقبال رسمية لدى وصوله الديوان الأميري.

وكان فخامة الرئيس جايير بولسونارو، رئيس جمهورية البرازيل الاتحادية، قد وصل إلى الدوحة، صباح أمس، في زيارة رسمية للبلاد. وكان في استقبال فخامته والوفد المرافق له، لدى وصوله مطار حمد الدولي، سعادة السيد علي بن أحمد الكواري وزير التجارة والصناعة، وسعادة السيد أحمد بن إبراهيم العبدالله، سفير دولة قطر لدى البرازيل، وسعادة السيد روبرتو عبدالله، سفير البرازيل لدى الدولة.
