Qatar participates in UN Youth Climate Summit

Qatar participated in the United Nations (UN) Youth Climate Summit held in New York City, US, as part of the Climate Action Summit 2019.

The Qatari delegation to the summit included representatives from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Qatar University, Qatar Petroleum and a group of young people interested in climate change.

The summit began with a speech by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in which he stressed the importance of the role of youth in addressing the phenomenon of climate change.

The one-day summit saw many programmes bringing together activists, innovators and young change-makers who are committed to tackling climate change at the speed and level needed. Several experiences and ideas were highlighted through presentations and discussions with representatives of governments, civil society and youth.

The summit is a platform for young leaders who are leading climate action to showcase their work and solutions at the United Nations and to share with decision-makers the issues of the day.

شاركت دولة قطر في فعاليات قمة الأمم المتحدة للمناخ المخصصة للشباب التي عقدت في مدينة نيويورك بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، ضمن فعاليات قمة التغير المناخي 2019.

وضم الوفد القطري المشارك في القمة ممثلين لوزارة البلدية والبيئة وجامعة قطر وقطر للبترول ومجموعة من الشباب المهتمين بظاهرة التغير المناخي.

وبدأت فعاليات القمة بكلمة لسعادة السيد أنطونيو غوتيريش الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة أكد فيها أهمية دور الشباب في التصدي لظاهرة التغير المناخي.

وشهدت القمة، التي استمرت فعالياتها يوما واحدا، العديد من البرامج جمعت بين الناشطين والمبتكرين وصانعي التغيير من فئة الشباب، الملتزمين بالتصدي لظاهرة تغير المناخ بالسرعة والمستوى اللازمين.

وتم تسليط الضوء على عدد من التجارب والأفكار من خلال عروض تقديمية ونقاشات شارك فيها ممثلون عن الحكومات والمجتمع المدني والشباب.

وتعتبر القمة منبرا للقادة الشباب الذين يقودون النشاط المناخي لاستعراض أعمالهم وحلولهم في الأمم المتحدة، وليشاركوا صانعي القرار قضايا العصر.
