Photo exhibition on Shanghai’s history opens at Katara

Doha: Seventy images showcasing pivotal moments in Shanghai’s history are on display at a photography exhibition launched on Sunday at Katara Cultural Village in line with the 70th founding anniversary of China.

Chronologically divided into three sections, the exhibition titled “Moments in History, 70 Years of Shanghai” reflects the huge leap China’s biggest city has witnessed in various spheres of development in the past seven decades.

The exhibition begins with “Reborn after the war” extending from Shanghai’s liberation in 1949 till 1978, a period characterized by many national and world firsts as people worked hard rebuilding their land after the war. It is followed by “Reform and opening up” (1978 to 2012) which was marked by an historic leap and transformation as the city became a window to China’s opening up to the outside world.

The exhibition concludes with “Pursuit of excellence” (2012 to 2019), a showcase of Shanghai’s drive towards becoming a global city of excellence – an international centre for economic, financial, trade, shipping and scientific innovation.

With its rich visual content and information, the exhibition serves as an invitation to take a fascinating journey into an understanding and appreciation of Shanghai in particular and China in general with everything they have achieved in recent decades.

Presented by the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, the Chinese Embassy in Doha and Katara, the exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara in the presence of Yin Yicui, Director of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress and Zhou Jian, Ambassador of China to Qatar with a number of ambassadors and officials in attendance.

The exhibition’s opening event was preceded by the launch of “Silk Road Charms – Shanghai Radio Week in Qatar.”

“The exhibition marks 70 years of the renaissance, development and modernity of Shanghai -one of the most famous gateways of China and one of its largest cultural, economic, commercial and financial centers,” said Al Sulaiti.

He stressed that Katara’s cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Doha and the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office reaffirms the strength and depth of bilateral relations between Qatar and China.

Yicui talked about the development Shanghai had witnessed in different fields while she welcomed cooperation between China and Qatar in various areas, which in turn strengthens the relations and openness between the two countries and their peoples.

For his part, the Chinese Ambassador expressed his happiness for their continuous cooperation with Katara reflected in the hosting of this important exhibition, while he lauded the significant role Katara plays in bridging different cultures.

The exhibition is open to the public until October 3 from 10am to 10pm at Katara Building 47.

افتتح سعادة الدكتور خالد بن إبراهيم السليطي، المدير العام للمؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي «كتارا»، مساء أمس، معرض «لحظات في التاريخ.. 70 سنة من شنغهاي»، وذلك بحضور السيدة إين ييشو رئيسة اللجنة المؤقتة لمجلس شنغهاي البلدي، وسعادة السيد تشو جيان سفير جمهورية الصين الشعبية لدى دولة قطر، وعدد من أصحاب السعادة السفراء والمسؤولين، والذي تنظمه المؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي «كتارا» بالتعاون مع سفارة جمهورية الصين الشعبية لدى قطر، ومكتب الشؤون الخارجية لبلدية شنغهاي.

وفي كلمته بهذه المناسبة، قال سعادة الدكتور خالد بن إبراهيم السليطي: «المعرض يرصد 70 عاماً من مسيرة النهضة والتطور والحداثة لمدينة شنغهاي، إحدى أشهر بوابات الصين وأكبر مراكزها الثقافية والاقتصادية والتجارية والمالية»؛ مؤكداً أن مثل هذا التعاون الذي تقيمه «كتارا» مع سفارة الصين لدى الدوحة ومكتب الشؤون الخارجية لبلدية شنغهاي، يؤكد من جديد على عمق وقوة ومتانة العلاقات المتبادلة بين قطر والصين، ودورها في التفاهم والتقارب وتعزيز الثقة، وتحقق مدى رحباً للتعاون المتواصل في المجال الثقافي والحضاري.

وبدورها، تحدثت السيدة بيشو عن مسيرة التطور التي شهدتها مدينة شنغهاي، مستعرضة أهم تلك الجوانب والتي تظهر على المستوى العمراني والمؤسساتي والإعلامي والاقتصادي. ورحبت بالتعاون بين الصين وقطر في مختلف المجالات، والذي يزيد بدوره من الترابط والانفتاح بين البلدين، مبينة أن الانفتاح الثقافي هو الوسيلة الأنجح لزيادة التقارب بين الشعوب، وهو ما يحققه الحي الثقافي «كتارا» من خلال هذه الفعاليات المهمة.

من جانبه، أعرب سعادة سفير الصين عن سعادته بهذا التعاون الدائم والمستمر مع المؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي «كتارا»، والذي أثمر اليوم معرضاً قيّماً في محتواه، مؤكداً أن «كتارا» صرح ثقافي مهم وجسر للتواصل بين الشعوب ومحطة مهمة لالتقاء المبدعين وتبادل المعارف والخبرات بينهم.
