Youth Panel members learn about volunteering, event management

More than 50 young people – representing 30 different nationalities – are continuing to learn from and be inspired by Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup.

Members of this year’s Youth Panel, which will be the final cohort, have recently visited stadium and infrastructure sites, and continued to enjoy exclusive access to architects, engineers and leading experts involved in laying the foundations for the first tournament in the Arab world.

Established by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) in 2015, 120 young people have graduated so far. More than 400 applications were received, with 100 youngsters short-listed, 93 interviewed and 54 making the cut, the SC said on its website.

Mead Al Emadi, the SC’s Community Engagement Manager, said: “The Youth Panel is one of our most successful Community Engagement programmes. It has allowed us to engage directly with a new generation of football fans right here in Qatar. This group now has the foundation to participate in the World Cup in 2022 in various different ways.”

She added: “Following the success of the Youth Panel since its inception four years ago, we will establish an alumni programme to provide a pathway to the next level of engagement with the SC.”

“The alumni now comprises more than 150 students based in Qatar and all over the world.”

This year’s panelists have taken part in ten sessions since November 2018 and have five more to go before graduation. The next sessions will focus on social media, venue readiness, event operations and event management.

During the last few months, members have learnt about volunteering and taken active roles during major events, such as the 2019 CAF Super Cup and the launch of Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah City. In addition, members have discovered more about the role of broadcasters in creating a universal tournament and the SC’s flagship CSR programme; Generation Amazing. Recently, a number of panelists participated in a Generation

Amazing activation with professional women footballers Lianne Sanderson and Ashley Nick, both of whom most recently represented Juventus. Organised by the SC and beIN Sports, the activity took place at Khalifa International Stadium.

Speaking about her experience, Nour Shalaby, 16, said: “I’ve learned a lot about how much effort and time it takes for the World Cup to be organised. It has been extremely moving to see all the hard work. I feel like being part of the 2022 World Cup allows me to gain more knowledge and understanding of the different components needed to run a smooth sporting event.”

Shaikha Al Kubaisi, 17, added: “I feel honoured to be a part of Qatar 2022; witnessing the rapid progress of the country and seeing the stadiums, sharing the advancements in the delivery of the World Cup with my peers, and seeing the purposeful legacy to be left behind after the tournament has been educational, inspirational and enjoyable.”

Talking about his overall experience with the Youth Panel, Salam Alkhuraibi, 15, said: “Being part of the Youth Panel has really left a place in my heart. The moment I walked in to the first session, I gained a lot of confidence – it’s helped me meet lots of great people with similar interests and become even more sociable.

“What I have found inspiring in this journey is the determination that the SC has to spread knowledge about Qatar 2022. Sharing my experience with my family, friends and schoolmates made them excited to hear what I do every month and know more about Qatar’s World Cup,” he concluded.

تعتزم اللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث تخريج الدفعة الأخيرة من المجموعة الشبابية التي تضم أكثر من 50 شاباً يمثلون 30 جنسية في شهر يناير من العام المقبل. وتتواصل زيارة أعضاء المجموعة إلى مواقع الاستادات ومشاريع البنية التحتية، والتحدث مع المعماريين والمهندسين والخبراء المشاركين في تنفيذ مشاريع بطولة كأس العالم لكرة القدم 2022، ما يمثل فرصة أمام الشباب لاكتساب الكثير من المعرفة حول الاستعدادات الجارية لاستضافة بطولة كأس العالم لكرة القدم قطر 2022.

شاركت دفعة هذا العام من المجموعة الشبابية في 10 دورات تدريبية منذ نوفمبر الماضي، على أن تواصل خلال الفترة المقبلة حضور 5 دورات أخرى تتناول موضوعات مختلفة، منها: الإعلام الاجتماعي، وجاهزية أماكن استضافة الفعاليات، وإدارة الفعاليات، وإدارة العمليات التشغيلية في الأحداث الرياضية، وغيرها.

وخلال الشهور الأخيرة، اكتسب أعضاء المجموعة الشبابية مهارات تطوعية قيمة من خلال المشاركة بفاعلية في فعاليات رياضية كبرى شهدتها قطر، مثل: مباراة كأس السوبر الإفريقي 2019، ونهائي كأس الأمير في استاد الجنوب بمدينة الوكرة.

كما تعرف الشباب على دور المذيع خلال البطولات العالمية، حيث شارك عدد من أعضاء المجموعة في فعالية نظمها «الجيل المبهر» برنامج المسؤولية المجتمعية في اللجنة العليا، بحضور لاعبتي نادي يوفنتوس الإيطالي: ليان ساندرسون وأشلي نك، في استاد خليفة الدولي، بالتعاون مع قنوات «بي. إن. سبورتس».

وقالت السيدة ميعاد العمادي -مديرة إدارة التواصل المجتمعي في اللجنة العليا-: «تعد المجموعة الشبابية من بين مبادراتنا الأكثر نجاحاً، حيث أتاحت لنا فرصة التواصل بشكل مباشر مع جيل جديد من مشجعي كرة القدم، والآن أصبحت هذه المجموعة من الشباب مزودة بالعديد من المهارات التي تمكنها من المساهمة بفاعلية في إنجاح استضافة قطر للنسخة المقبلة من المونديال».

وأضافت: «في ضوء النجاح الذي حققته مبادرة المجموعة الشبابية منذ إطلاقها قبل أربعة أعوام، نعتزم إطلاق برنامج لخريجيها للانتقال بهم إلى المرحلة المقبلة من تعاونهم مع اللجنة العليا، وتضم قائمة خريجي المجموعة الشبابية حالياً أكثر من 150 شاباً من قطر وخارجها».

يشار إلى أن المجموعة الشبابية انطلقت عام 2015، واستقبلت اللجنة العليا أكثر من 400 طلب للمشاركة في دفعة 2018، ليأتي 100 منهم ضمن القائمة، ثم أجريت مقابلات مع 93 شاباً، ووقع الاختيار على 54 منهم للانضمام إلى الدفعة الأخيرة من المجموعة الشبابية، والتي تهدف إلى إلهام الشباب، وتعزيز حماسهم وانتمائهم وفخرهم باستضافة قطر النسخة الأولى من المونديال في العالم العربي.
