WhatsApp is reportedly building a desktop version that works without your phone

In 2015, WhatsApp released a web version that mirrored the conversation from the mobile app. To use it, though, you still needed to have your phone connected to the internet. But that might soon change.

Reliable WhatsApp leaker account WABetaInfo tweeted the company might be developing a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app along with a new multi-platform system that will work even when your phone’s off.

This can be a big deal for the chat app that has more than 1.5 billion active users worldwide. It can help you stay in touch with the people on your contact list when you’re on the move, but your phone’s running out of juice. This is similar to the way Telegram works.

There’s no information on when this feature will be available, but we’ll keep an eye out for you.

تعكف شركة «واتس آب» حالياً على تطوير نسخة ويب جديدة من التطبيق، تعمل من دون الحاجة إلى رقم هاتف، وفق ما ذكرت تسريبات نشرها خبراء في التكنولوجيا على الإنترنت.

وذكر حساب «WABetaInfo» على «تويتر» أن شركة «واتس آب» المملوكة لـ «فيس بوك»، تقوم بتطوير تطبيق جديد متعدد المنصات يعمل عبر متصفح الإنترنت حتى عند إيقاف الهاتف الذكي، سواء كان يعمل بنظام «آي أو أس» أو «أندرويد».

وسوف يتيح التطبيق الجديد للمستخدمين البقاء على اتصال مع الأشخاص المدرجين في قائمة جهات الاتصال عندما يكونوا في حالة تنقّل، وفي الوقت نفسه يحتاجون للتواصل مع آخرين.

وقال حساب «WABetaInfo»، الذي يعتمد عليه كثيراً في تسريبات «واتس آب»، إنه لا توجد معلومات حتى الآن بشأن موعد إطلاق التطبيق المخصص للحواسيب الثابتة، لكن في حال إطلاق هذا التطبيق، فإنه سوف يزيد عدد مستخدمي التطبيق الذي يضم أكثر من 1.5 مليار مستخدم نشط في جميع أنحاء العالم.

تجدر الإشارة إلى أنه في عام 2015، أطلق «واتس آب» إصداراً مخصصاً للحاسوب، لكن تشغيله لا يزال يعتمد على الربط بين الهاتف والحاسوب من خلال كود.
