HBKU researcher participates at international leadership conference
جامعة حمد تشارك في مؤتمر دولي للقيادات النسائية في الهندسة
Dr Veronica Bermudez, senior research director at Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (Qeeri)’s Energy Centre, part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), participated at the ‘2019 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Women in Engineering International Leadership Conference’ in Austin, Texas, US.
The summit, which took place on May 23 and 24, brought together professional women across from industry, academia and government to facilitate knowledge-sharing and stimulate innovation in engineering.
Dr Bermudez moderated a panel discussion on how innovation, cultural changes and diversity could help fuel the renewable energy transition. She was invited to the conference after being awarded the second prize for her essay, ‘Imagination Fuelling Innovation and Change in the Energetic Sector’ in a competition organised by IEEE Women in Engineering, Japan.
Qeeri’s Energy Centre focuses on research across several programmes, including Catalysis and Process Technology, Energy Management, Energy Storage, Energy Efficiency, Energy Conversation and Disruptive Technologies.
The institute is involved in research, development and innovation aimed at addressing Qatar’s challenges and priorities through its energy, water, environment and sustainability, and computational materials and processes centres.
شاركت الدكتورة فيرونيكا برموديز، مدير أبحاث أول في مركز الطاقة بمعهد قطر لبحوث البيئة والطاقة، التابع لجامعة حمد بن خليفة، في مؤتمر القيادات الدولية النسائية في الهندسة 2019، الذي نظمه معهد مهندسي الكهرباء والإلكترونيات، وذلك بمدينة أوستين في ولاية تكساس الأميركية.
واستقطب مؤتمر القمة، الذي أقيم خلال الفترة من 23 – 24 مايو، متخصصات من القطاعات المهنية، والأكاديمية، والحكومية لتيسير سبل تبادل المعرفة، وتشجيع الابتكار في الهندسة.
وأدارت الدكتورة برموديز جلسة نقاش حول إمكانية مساهمة الابتكار، والتغيرات الثقافية، والتنوع في دعم التحول إلى استخدام مصادر الطاقة المتجددة.
وكانت الدكتورة برموديز قد دُعيت لحضور المؤتمر بعد حصولها على الجائزة الثانية عن بحثها المعنون “الخيال يدعم الابتكار والتغيير في قطاع الطاقة”، وذلك خلال المسابقة التي نظمها مؤتمر القيادات الدولية النسائية في الهندسة، والذي عقده معهد مهندسي الكهرباء والإلكترونيات في اليابان.
