QRCS, QFFD provide winter aid in northern Syria and Turkey

Doha: Under its 2019 Warm Winter campaign, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has initiated a multifaceted program for the internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities in northern Syria, as well as the Syrian refugees in Turkey.

Funded by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), the program is aimed at meeting the increasing needs in the northern part of the war-torn country.

QRCS’s representation mission in Turkey already provided 2,400 winter clothes bags for children of the 5-14 age group in the city and countryside of Al Bab.

Each bag contained underwear, outerwear, cap, gloves, coat, and shoes.

In partnership with the Turkish Red Crescent, another 16,000 winter clothes bags are prepared for distribution, 10,000 in the city and countryside of Idlib, and 6,000 in Kilis, a city in south-central Turkey.

Also, work is in progress to distribute a total of 200,000 litres of heating oil to 2,000 families, or 10,000 persons, in the city of Jisr Al Shughur. Each family will receive an average of 100 litres.

Together with the Turkish Red Crescent and the municipal council of Kilis, QRCS is to deliver 1,200 tonnes of coal for the city’s Syrian refugees to use in heating.

At the same time, QRCS’s field teams are restoring 985 damaged houses in northern Syria, to be handed over to their owners within a few days. The beneficiaries are estimated at 5,000 persons.

Under the project, 250 torn tents inhabited by most affected families will be replaced in Jisr Al Shughur. Over 200 tents will be replaced later.

The communities of the northern governorates of Syria suffer appalling living conditions due to the destruction of houses, deficiency of infrastructure, overpopulation, and lack of the least requirements for a decent life.

This program is part of the ‘Warm Winter’, a campaign launched by QRCS three months ago to help the displaced during the cold winter, by securing basic winterisation supplies.

ضمن حملة الشتاء الدافئ لعام 2018-2019، وتلبية للاحتياجات المتزايدة في الشمال السوري، يواصل الهلال الأحمر القطري أعماله الإنسانية من خلال مكتبه التمثيلي في تركيا، الذي ينفذ مشاريع إغاثية متعددة القطاعات لصالح الأسر السورية النازحة والمضيفة في كلٍّ من الشمال السوري وتركيا، وذلك بدعم من صندوق قطر للتنمية.

فقد قامت الفرق الميدانية لبرنامج الاستجابة الطارئة بتوزيع 2,400 سلة ملابس شتوية على الأطفال من عمر 5 أعوام حتى 14 عاماً في مدينة الباب وريفها، وتحتوي السلة الواحدة على كسوة داخلية وخارجية كاملة، بالإضافة إلى قبعة وقفازات صوفية ومعطف وحذاء. ويتم العمل حالياً على تحضير 16,000 سلة ملابس شتوية أخرى بالشراكة مع الهلال الأحمر التركي، على أن يتم توزيع 10,000 سلة منها في مدينة إدلب وريفها، و6,000 سلة على اللاجئين السوريين في مدينة كلس التركية.

كذلك يجري العمل على قدم وساق لتحضير 200,000 لتر من وقود التدفئة من أجل توزيعها على 2,000 أسرة في منطقة جسر الشغور، بمعدل 100 لتر لكل أسرة، ويستفيد منها في المجمل ما يقارب 10,000 شخص. وبالشراكة مع الهلال الأحمر التركي وبلدية مدينة كلس التركية، يقوم الهلال الأحمر القطري بالتحضير لتوزيع 1,200 طن من الفحم على اللاجئين السوريين المقيمين في المدينة، لاستخدامه في عمليات التدفئة.

من ناحية أخرى، تستمر الفرق الميدانية في أعمال ترميم 985 منزلاً متضرراً في الشمال السوري، ومن المنتظر أن تبدأ مرحلة تسليم المنازل للمتضررين خلال الأيام القليلة المقبلة، حيث يقدر عدد المستفيدين من هذا المشروع بحوالي 5,000 شخص. هذا بالإضافة إلى استبدال 250 خيمة مهترئة للعوائل الأكثر تضرراً في منطقة جسر الشغور، مع استبدال أكثر من 200 خيمة أخرى خلال الفترة المقبلة بإذن الله.
