Doha: Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will head the delegation of the State of Qatar to participate in the summit-level meeting of the Council of the Arab League in the 30th Ordinary Session, to be held today in Tunis, Tunisia.
An official delegation is accompanying H H the Amir.
Earlier, the Arab Foreign Ministers concluded on Friday their preparatory meeting for the 30th Arab Summit with the adoption of a final draft of the declaration to be submitted to Arab leaders for approval. The State of Qatar had participated in the Foreign Ministers’ meeting with a delegation led by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H E Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.
An official source with knowledge of the meeting told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that Arab Foreign Ministers’ meeting was dominated by a consensus on most Arab issues on the Summit’s agenda despite extensive discussions that took place among the participating delegations on the final draft of the declaration, mainly regarding the wording of the Arab position on the issue of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
Meanwhile, State of Qatar’s Ambassador to the Republic of Tunisia Saad bin Nasser Al Humaidi stressed yesterday the importance of H H the Amir’s chairing of the state’s delegation during the 30th Arab League Summit.
The Ambassador said in remarks made exclusively to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the Arab Summit is taking place at a delicate time for the Arab world, and especially for the State of Qatar which managed to overcome a brutal blockade imposed on the Qatari people.
The Ambassador highlighted the attendance of H H the Amir at the summit confirms that the State of Qatar remains a vital and active part of the Arab region. He added that the attendance of H H the Amir of the 30th summit shows that the State of Qatar can never opt out of its responsibilities towards the Arab world and joint Arab work.
“It also shows that Qatar is committed to making a contribution to the progress of the Arab world whether through the positions it takes or its support of developmental efforts in the region,” he added.
The Ambassador also said in his remarks to QNA that the visit of H H the Amir to Tunisia came after an invite from the Tunisian President, Beji Caid Essebsi, adding that the visit will also provide an opportunity to discuss building on the excellent level of bilateral cooperation.
The visit of H H the Amir to Tunisia, comes at a time when bilateral ties are witnessing a qualitative leap in terms of political coordination between the two countries on bilateral issues. This is reflected in the visits the two countries’ leadership pay one another, and through meetings of joint committees, as well as economic and trade cooperation, which saw a growth of 34.52 percent in the first quarter on an annual basis. Qatar and Tunisia share a historic relationship, reflected by the agreements they signed in all fields such as judicial, Islamic Affairs, tourism, transport, environment, diplomatic relationship, and preventing double taxation among others.
The Ambassador said that these agreements and others will help grow bilateral ties, which has seen significant development in recent years, particularly since the Tunisia investment conference which the State of Qatar played a big role.
