Kaffeinated festival tickles coffee-lovers’ taste buds

Hot coffee and cold weather always go well together, and the best venue for true-blue coffee snobs to sip some of the best coffee concoctions by young local entrepreneurs is the Kaffeinated 3 festival which opened at Katara Esplanade yesterday.

On its third edition, Kaffeinated gathers nearly 70 coffee shops, majority of which are Qatari startups, offering unique coffee varieties and tastes to satisfy one’s caffeine cravings.

The long line of food stalls and food trucks at the Esplanade is a paradise for coffee enthusiasts who can choose from among new and exciting coffee combinations along with a wide variety of cakes, bread, sandwiches, and pastries.

The festival is sure to pull crowds in the coming days with the colourful and uniquely designed food stalls and trucks and their eye-catching names such as Anime Cafe, Strange Things and Coffeeholic, to name a few.
One of the coffee shops with a unique concept taking part in the festival is the National Service Café co-founded by Hussain Albuhaliqa.

From the colour, logo and design of the food truck to the menu, the café consistently integrates an army feel.

“We just opened a month ago at Qatar Sports Club and this is our first time to participate here. Our menu includes classics such as latte, cappuccino, espresso and flat white but we focus more on our own concept which is the ‘Blastino’ especially our signature Strawberry Blastino,” Albuhaliqa told reporters yesterday.

He said the concept of the café caters to the entire community as well as goes deeply into the idea of national service for the youth through coffee.

Kaffeinated festival, Albuhaliqa believes, works very well in Doha as “both Qataris and expatriates are in love with coffee and they want to try something different from the mainstream coffee shops.”

National Service Café only uses organic coffee beans sourced from Belgium, according to Albuhaliqa. Its first outlet which recently opened at Qatar Sports Club is already generating lots of buzz for its unique ambience exuded by its army style interiors.

Another participant Yadooh Factory, on the other hand, combines traditional and modern concepts. According to its founder AlAnoud Kafoud, ‘Yadooh’ comes from an Arabic word which refers to ‘grandma’ and ‘Factory’ was used as a departure from the usual term ‘café’ for people to distinguish it from its competitors. Further reinforcing its concept is the logo which is in the form of a “Batoola’, a traditional face covering typically worn by older women in Qatar and the region.

“We started around year 2014 with desserts, and later on we added coffee to the menu. We also had other coffee concepts because there are lots of coffee shops now in Qatar and we have to be different by offering something special so we introduced the idea of hot chocolate and ice cream combination in the beginning of January 2018,” said Kafoud, adding they use a variety of coffee beans coming from South America, Africa and Asia.

Since its establishment, Yadoo Factory has been taking part in several festivals and this is its second time to participate in Kaffeinated which Kafoud says is well organised and has grown even bigger this year.

Presented in collaboration with the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara, the festival is open from 12 noon to 12 midnight until January 13.

Kaffeinated 3 also includes activities related to the preparation of coffee in which visitors learn different ways to make coffee using different techniques including traditional method.
The previous editions of Kaffeinated generated huge public interest and presented an ideal opportunity to discover the world of coffee with its varied tastes.

شهدت الواجهة البحرية للحي الثقافي «كتارا»، أمس الأول، انطلاق مهرجان «كافينيتد3»، والذي ينظمه مهرجان «كافينيتد» بالتعاون مع المؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي «كتارا»، إلى غاية 13 من الشهر الحالي، من منتصف النهار إلى منتصف الليل بمشاركة 60 محلاً للقهوة، تعرض نكهات متنوعة تلبي مختلف الأذواق.

قام سعادة الدكتور خالد بن إبراهيم السليطي المدير العام للمؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي «كتارا»، بجولة في أرجاء المهرجان أكد خلالها أن «كافينيتد 3» يأتي ضمن مساعي المؤسسة لتكون وجهة ثقافية وسياحية، وذلك من خلال توفير أجواء متنوعة تستجيب لرغبات الزوار المختلفة، بفضل ما تتمتع به من موقع جميل ومرافق متنوعة جعلتها تشكل الوجهة المفضلة للجمهور.

وأضاف الدكتور السليطي أن «كافينيتد» يقدم فعاليات وأنشطة مصاحبة مرتبطة بالقهوة وكيفية تحضيرها والتفنن بها، حيث سيتعرف الزوار على طرق متنوعة لإعداد القهوة من خلال تقنيات مختلفة منها الطرق التقليدية ومنها عبر الآلات وغيرها.

وأكد أن المهرجان قد حقق نجاحاً ملحوظاً منذ نسخته الأولى، وذلك يرجع للخلفية الثقافية للقهوة في مجتمعنا، حيث تحتل مكانة بارزة في الثقافة القطرية والعربية، بالإضافة إلى مكانتها في حياتنا الاجتماعية، فهي رمز من رموز الكرم وحسن الضيافة.

وبيّن الدكتور السليطي أن «كافينيتد» في «كتارا» أصبح يحظى باهتمام الكثير من الشباب القطري، إذ إنه يشكل فرصة مناسبة لتلاقي المهتمين والعاملين في هذا المجال، حيث تخصص العديد من الشباب القطري في هذا المجال وتلقى تكويناً عالمياً عالي المستوى وبدأ مشروعه التجاري وهو يشرف عليه بنفسه. و لذلك يعتبر هذا المهرجان بمثابة الدعم لهذه المشاريع، حيث يمثل تجمعها في «كتارا» فرصة ليتعرف أصحاب هذه المحلات على بعضهم البعض ويتبادلوا التجارب والخبرات، بالإضافة إلى مزيد اقترابهم من الجمهور المتنوع، والتعريف بمشاريعهم وما يقدمونه من نكهات متنوعة.

ويقدم المهرجان مجموعة من الفعاليات المصاحبة، حيث يشهد اليوم الجمعة مسابقة تذوق فن القهوة بالتعاون مع محل «فولكان»، أما مسابقة فن رسم القهوة فستكون من 6 إلى 8 يناير، في حين ستكون هناك ورش عمل للمقاهي المصرحة من هيئة القهوة المختصة العالمية من 10 إلى 12 يناير الحالي. ويشهد المهرجان إقبالاً غفيراً منذ يومه الأول، حيث أشاد الزوار بمختلف المحلات وما تقدمه من نكهات عديدة مستوحاة من عالم القهوة الساحر.;
