Qatar chairs UNGA session on appointments in UN bodies

DOHA: The State of Qatar yesterday presided over a session of the 73rd session of UN General Assembly on appointments to fill vacancies in United Nations organs and subcommittees.

Chaired by Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Ambassador H E Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, as Vice-President of the General Assembly, the session approved the appointments to fill vacancies in the organs and subcommittees of the United Nations.

At its meeting, the General Assembly decided to appoint members in the advisory committee on administrative and budgetary affairs, the committee on contributions, the investment committee, the international civil service commission, and the joint inspection unit.

In last June, the General Assembly elected Qatar as Vice-President of the Assembly.

This election is a recognition by the Member States of the United Nations of the role played by the State of Qatar in the United Nations as well as its distinguished role at the regional and international levels.

ترأست دولة قطر أمس، جلسة للجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة في دورتها الثالثة والسبعين، حول تعيينات لملء الشواغر في أجهزة ولجان الأمم المتحدة الفرعية.

وقد أقرت الجلسة -التي ترأستها سعادة السفيرة الشيخة علياء أحمد بن سيف آل ثاني المندوب الدائم لدولة قطر لدى الأمم المتحدة، بصفتها نائبة لرئيسة الجمعية العامة- التعيينات لملء الشواغر في أجهزة ولجان الأمم المتحدة الفرعية، حيث قررت الجمعية العامة في جلستها، تعيين أعضاء في اللجنة الاستشارية لشؤون الإدارة والميزانية، وتعيين أعضاء في لجنة الاشتراكات، وأعضاء في لجنة الاستثمارات، وفي لجنة الخدمة المدنية الدولية، وأعضاء في وحدة التفتيش المشتركة.

وكانت الجمعية العامة قد انتخبت في مطلع شهر يونيو الماضي، دولة قطر نائباً لرئيس الجمعية العامة، ويعدُّ هذا الانتخاب إقراراً من الدول الأعضاء في المنظمة الدولية، بالدور الذي تضطلع به دولة قطر في الأمم المتحدة، وبالمكانة المتميزة لدورها على المستويين الإقليمي والدولي.;
