BMW FIRE risk recall – 300,000 cars in the UK recalled over safety issue

BMW has issued a recall of every 3 Series saloon car built between December 2004 and July 2011.
Both petrol and diesel variants of the car are being recalled and it is believed that it affects 294,000 cars in the UK.
The recall was enacted based on fears that a wiring harness connecting the heater fan poses a fire risk.
This is the second recall issued by BMW in May this year in the UK, after the carmaker recalled over 300,000 cars which risked stalling and completely losing power.
Around 312,000 examples of the 1 Series, 3 Series, Z4 and X1 were recalled because there were fears that a connecter between the battery and fuse box could prematurely wear, which would lead to it stalling.
This latest recall therefore affects an additional 88,000 cars.
It also follows a recall of 670,000 cars in the US in 2017 over fire risks associated with a cable connecting the heater fan and battery.
A BMW spokesman told the Financial Times: “We are taking the opportunity of the existing recall to proactively check and replace the wiring harness of the blower regulator.
“In doing so we are taking every precaution in terms of safety while minimising disruption and inconvenience to affected customers.
“This affects BMW 3 Series models manufactured between December 2004 and July 2011. BMW has notified the DVSA this morning of its intention to recall and will begin the recall process immediately.”

أكدت شركة “بي إم دبليو” الألمانية لصناعة السيارات الأربعاء أنها ستسحب 323700 سيارة من أنحاء أوروبا بسبب خلل في إحدى القطع يمكن أن يؤدي إلى اشتعال حريق في المحرك.
وصرح متحدث باسم الشركة لوكالة فرانس برس إن أقل من ثلث السيارات المتضررة (96300) في ألمانيا، و75 ألفا في بريطانيا، ونحو 23 ألفا في فرنسا وأكثر من 24 ألفا في إيطاليا.
وتأتي هذه العملية هذه بعد أن أجبرت الشركة على استعادة أكثر من 100 ألف سيارة من كوريا الجنوبية بسبب نفس المشكلة.
واضطرت الشركة كذلك إلى الاعتذار لأن أكثر من 30 من سياراتها اندلعت فيها النيران هذا العام في كوريا الجنوبية.
وقالت الشركة العملاقة إن السبب هو قطعة بها عطل تسمى “مبرد إعادة تدوير غاز العادم” الذي يولد رواسب إضافية تسبب احتراق المحرك “في حالات نادرة”.
في أوروبا تغطي عملية السحب مجموعة واسعة من طرازات سيارات الديزل انتجت في الفترة من أبريل 2015 وسبتمبر 2016 إضافة الى سيارات أنتجت بين يوليو 2012 ويونيو 2015.
وقالت الشركة إنها لم تقدر بعد كلفة سحب السيارات، لأن ذلك سيعتمد على عدد السيارات التي تتطلب تغيير القطعة بعد فحصها.
