Sidra Medicine to open children’s emergency department in July

Doha: Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, is set to open Children’s Emergency Department (CED) in early July, nearly six months after the successful opening of its main hospital.

Emergency care will be provided free of charge, but for cases that are considered non-emergencies, there will be a charge to be paid. Triage staff will determine the urgency of treatment and the appropriate level of care required.

The new CED will add capacity to Qatar’s existing healthcare facilities, such as the five Pediatric Emergency Centers (PECs), which will remain open, and complement those services already available at Sidra Medicine.

Sidra Medicine’s CED will provide emergency care and treatment for children requiring life-saving intervention or immediate attention, such as in cases of severe trauma and major medical and surgical emergencies -free of charge. Sidra Medicine organizes its emergency care system according to best international practice as outlined in the Emergency Severity Index.

Children who require non-urgent care – including upper respiratory issues like sore throats and coughs, rashes, or low-grade fever – should continue to seek treatment with their regular healthcare provider, as they normally would. Should patients choose to come to Sidra Medicine for treatment of cases that are considered non-emergencies, its Children’s Urgent Care Clinic will treat patients in order of medical urgency and are required to pay a charge for the consultation.

“This is a major milestone in our journey towards delivering a world-class center for children’s services in Qatar and our aim to become a beacon of healthcare excellence for children, young people, and women,” said Sidra Medicine Chief Executive Officer Peter Morris.

The opening of CED at Sidra center comes as part of the plan to gradually open the center’s services to the full operational stage this year.

The new services will complement those already available at Sidra Medicine since opening its main hospital in January, such as the opening of the Sidra Medicine Heart Center with the help of an outstanding clinical team, cutting-edge equipment and facilities, and advanced treatments and care as well as launching a wide range of pediatric medical and surgical programs, including kidney dialysis, and opening the Sidra Medicine Women’s Urgent Care and Obstetrics Triage Center for women with urgent issues related to pregnancy and the reproductive system,such as acute pelvic pain and bleeding complications in early pregnancy (below 12 weeks).

ويأتي هذا الإعلان بعد حوالي 6 أشهر فقط من افتتاح مركز سدرة للطب للمستشفى الرئيسي، ليقطع بذلك خطوة أخرى مهمة في مسيرة التطوير التي يسعى من خلالها للتحول إلى أبرز المؤسسات المتخصصة في تقديم الرعاية الصحية للأطفال في قطر.

ويمثل قسم طوارئ الأطفال إضافة جديدة لمراكز طوارئ الأطفال الحالية في قطر والتي ستواصل تقديم خدماتها كالمعتاد، كما يعد القسم استكمالا لخدمات الرعاية الصحية في مركز سدرة للطب.

وقال السيد بيتر موريس الرئيس التنفيذي لمركز سدرة ان افتتاح قسم طوارئ الأطفال سيمثل إنجازا كبيرا في مسيرة المركز الرامية إلى تقديم رعاية صحية ذات مستوى عالمي للأطفال في قطر وتحقيق هدف ان يتحول مركز سدرة للطب إلى منارة للتميز في مجال الرعاية الصحية للنساء والأطفال.

وسيوفر قسم طوارئ الأطفال خدماته بالمجان لحالات الطوارئ التي تستدعي تدخلا فوريا أو إجراء طبيا عاجلا لإنقاذ حياة الأطفال، أما الحالات غير الطارئة كأمراض الجهاز التنفسي مثل التهاب الحلق والسعال والطفح الجلدي والحمى الخفيفة، فيتعين اصطحابها إلى أقرب مؤسسة صحية أخرى، وانه في حال اختار أولياء الأمور الذهاب إلى مركز سدرة للطب لعلاج أطفالهم في الحالات غير الطارئة، فسيتم تقديم الاستشارات الطبية لهم في عيادة الرعاية العاجلة بمقابل مادي.

وسيحدد أخصائيو مركز سدرة للطب المعنيين بتصنيف مرضى الطوارئ درجة خطورة حالة المريض لمعرفة ما إذا كانت تستدعي العلاج في مركز سدرة للطب أم يمكن تلقي العلاج في مركز آخر.

ويأتي تدشين قسم الطوارئ في مركز السدرة في إطار خطة الافتتاح التدريجي لخدمات المركز وصولا لمرحلة التشغيل الكامل هذا العام.

ومن أهم الخدمات التي أطلقها المركز منذ افتتاح المستشفى الرئيسي في شهر يناير، افتتاح مركز القلب، واستخدام تقنية الطباعة ثلاثية الأبعاد المتطورة والمرتبطة بالتصوير التشخيصي والتي تساعد في الحصول على نماذج بالغة الدقة لأعضاء الجسم، وإطلاق عدد كبير من البرامج الطبية والجراحية الخاصة بالأطفال، ومنها غسيل الكلى، الى جانب إطلاق خدمة الرعاية العاجلة ومركز الفرز للنساء اللائي تستدعي حالاتهن تدخلا عاجلا للحالات مرتبطة بأمراض النساء والولادة، مثل آلام الحوض الحاد ومضاعفات النزيف في فترات الحمل المبكر (أقل من 12 أسبوعا).
