GU-Q celebrates graduation of its 10th batch

Doha: The Class of 2018 donned their academic robes and gathered together for the last time on May 3, as Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) celebrated the graduation of its 10th class at a traditional commencement ceremony.

Fifty-one seniors were awarded their Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) degrees at the event, which was attended by high level dignitaries, members of the diplomatic and international community, and proud families.

This year’s graduating class comprised 36 women and 15 men representing 22 nationalities, who obtained the same globally recognized BSFS degree that is offered on Georgetown’s Main Campus in Washington, DC.

The degrees were conferred by president of Georgetown University, John J DeGioia, who was among the members of Georgetown University leadership who travelled to Doha to take part in the ceremony.

“Commencement is a time when we reflect on the many achievements of our senior students, their four-year long journey of growth and development, and the amazing possibilities that lie ahead,” said GU-Q Dean Ahmad Dallal.

“The Class of 2018 is graduating at a remarkable time in history in a rapidly transforming world, but they have the benefit of a Georgetown education that has prepared them to deal with the challenges of today and to contribute and help shape a positive future. We are excited to see where they go from here and what they achieve next.”

The address to the Class of 2018 was given by Aysha Al Mudahka, CEO of the Qatar Business Incubation Center and board member at INJAZ Qatar, who was named among the top 100 of most powerful Arab woman women by CEO Middle East magazine.

حتفلت جامعة جورجتاون في قطر، بتخريج الدفعة العاشرة التي تضم 51 متخرجاً من الحاصلين على درجة بكالوريوس العلوم في الشؤون الدولية، بحضور لفيف من كبار الشخصيات وأعضاء السلك الدبلوماسي والدولي، وأولياء أمور الطلاب الخريجين وذويهم.

ارتدى طلاب دفعة 2018 العباءات الأكاديمية، وتتكون الدفعة من 36 طالبة و15 طالباً يمثلون 22 جنسية، حصلوا جميعاً على نفس درجة بكالوريوس العلوم في الشؤون الدولية التي تمنحها الجامعة من حرمها الجامعي الرئيسي في واشنطن. وقام بمنح الدرجات رئيس جامعة جورجتاون جون دي جويا، الذي كان من بين القيادات الرفيعة المستوى التي قدمت إلى الدوحة للمشاركة في مراسم التخرج.

وعن مراسم التخرج لهذا العام، قال الدكتور أحمد دلّال، عميد جامعة جورجتاون في قطر: «يظل حفل التخرج فرصة للتأمل في الإنجازات المتعددة التي حققها طلابنا الخريجون عبر رحلة استمرت 4 سنوات من النمو والتطور، والتطلع إلى الفرص السانحة أمامهم.

وأضاف أن دفعة 2018 تتخرج في مرحلة متميزة من التاريخ ضمن عالم سريع التغير، لكن أعضاءها مسلحون بعلم وتعليم استثنائي حصلوا عليه في جامعة جورجتاون، مما أعدهم للتعامل مع التحديات الراهنة، والمساهمة في تشكيل مستقبل إيجابي. نحن متحمسون لمتابعة تطورهم أينما ذهبوا، وما سيحققونه بعد ذلك».

وألقت الكلمة الرئيسية الموجهة إلى الخريجين السيدة عائشة المضاحكة الرئيس التنفيذي لحاضنة قطر للأعمال، وعضو مجلس إدارة مؤسسة إنجاز قطر، التي يندرج اسمها ضمن قائمة أقوى 100 شخصية نسائية في العالم العربي من قبل مجلة «ميدل إيست».

وقد قدمت للخريجين النصح والإرشاد بأن يكونوا «مواطنين عالميين أقوياء» يصمدون في وجه التنوع والاختلاف، وكل من يحاول إعاقة مساراتهم نحو النجاح. وقالت: «اليوم حيث يسود ضيق الأفق واللامبالاة لينافسا الفضائل، أدعوكم جميعاً إلى الاستمرار في بناء الجسور، مسلحين بالكرامة والإصرار، لأنه في نهاية المطاف لن يكون هناك انتصار أفضل من قول: نحن لم نستسلم أبداً».;
