“المشاريع و الإرث” تطالب “فيفا” بضرورة التشاور حول إمكانية رفع عدد منتخبات مونديال 2022
Qatar World Cup organisers have told FIFA it was “important” to hold talks before any final decision was taken to expand the 2022 tournament to 48 teams.
In the first response by the Gulf nation since the shock news that FIFA is looking at bringing forward its plan to increase the number of World Cup teams by four years, Qatar also said it was confident it could still deliver a “successful” tournament, regardless of the final decision.
“Before any decision is taken it is important that discussions are held on the operations and logistics of an increase in size of the tournament in Qatar,” said a spokesperson for Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy in a statement.
“Regardless of the outcome – we are confident in our ability to deliver a successful World Cup in 2022.”
Qatar was responding to a request by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), which on April 12 at its congress formally asked FIFA to introduce the plan to expand team numbers in time for Qatar.
Football’s governing body had already agreed to enlarge the tournament from the current 32 teams — which is how many are currently scheduled to play in Qatar — for the 2026 tournament.
CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez made the request in a letter handed to Gianni Infantino.
The FIFA president has called the proposal a “very interesting idea” and promised to look into it.
The tournament has already been shortened to 28 days to accommodate the switch to playing the tournament in November and December. By contrast, the World Cup in Russia this year will be played over 32 days.
Qatar, which is spending $500mn a week on the first World Cup staged in the Middle East, is currently only planning to use eight venues in 2022. Again, by contrast, Russia will use 12.
If indeed the 48-team World Cup is okayed for Qatar, it will mean an additional 16 matches and will result in a longer tournament with the possibility of some matches being held in neighbouring countries.

وذكرت وكالة الأنباء الفرنسية نقلا عن متحدث رسمي باسم اللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث السبت “ثقتنا الكاملة بقدرتنا على تنظيم بطولة ناجحة عام 2022 بغض النظر عن القرار النهائي الذي سيتوصل إليه الاتحاد الدولي حول عدد الفرق المشاركة”.
وكان إتحاد أميركا الجنوبية (كونميبول) طالب الخميس من الاتحاد الدولي (فيفا) تسريع عملية الانتقال من 32 منتخبا الى 48 بدءا من كأس العالم 2022 في قطر.
وقال المتحدث الرسمي “نحن على علم بالطلب الذي قدمه اتحاد أمريكا الجنوبية لكرة القدم للاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم فيفا والذي يقترح زيادة عدد الفرق المشاركة ببطولة كأس العالم لكرة القدم 2022. ونود التأكيد على ضرورة التشاور مع كافة الأطراف المعنية، حول انعكاسات هذا الطلب على الجوانب التنظيمية والتشغيلية للبطولة قبل اتخاذ أي قرار بهذا الشأن”.
ومن المقرر أن يقام أول مونديال مع 48 منتخبا عام 2026 في المغرب أو باستضافة مشتركة للولايات المتحدة الاميركية وكندا والمكسيك.
وقدم رئيس اتحاد اميركا الجنوبية لكرة القدم الباراغواياني أليخاندرو دومينغيز خلال اجتماع الجمعية العمومية في العاصمة الأرجنتينية بوينوس آيريس إلى نظيره رئيس الفيفا جاني إنفانتينو رسالة بهذا الشأن موقعة من رؤساء الإتحادات العشرة وحثه على التوسع المبكر.
وقال دومينغيز “نطالب أن يتم تنظيم بطولة كأس العالم لكرة القدم 2022 مع 48 فريقا”، فيما رد إنفانتينو “لقد تلقينا هذا الطلب وهي فكرة مثيرة للاهتمام وعلينا أن ندرس الجدوى منها. في حال كانت ممكنة فلما لا”.
وأشار إنفانتينو أنه هو من يقف خلف فكرة الانتقال من 32 إلى 48 منتخبا في نهائيات كأس العالم.
