Do motorbike delivery drivers pose a threat to road safety?

Doha: A number of drivers called on the concerned authorities to find a way to prevent motorbike delivery workers from leaving their places of residence all at the same time, stressing that they drive in dozens and sometimes hundreds at the same time from their places of residence in Al-Wakir area to the main streets, especially on the road leading to February 22, “they don’t stick to one lane, which jeopardizes their lives and the lives of other road users.” one driver added. 

They suggested that the concerned authorities should regulate motorbike delivery workers’ traffic as they leave their places of residence by obligating them to use the right lane of the road and preventing them from bypassing vehicles and moving between tracks.

The Ministry of Labor has prohibited motorbike delivery from 10:00 am until 3:30 pm, and throughout the validity period of Ministerial Resolution No. 17 of 2021 AD from June 1 to September 15 of each year.

The ministry clarified in a circular in this regard that the measure comes within the framework of reducing the risk of heat exhaustion for delivery workers (motorbikers) during the summer period. The ministry noted that all companies and shops could continue to provide delivery service by car only during the mentioned period.

“يقودون في جميع مسارات الطريق ما يشكل خطورة على حياتهم وحياة باقي مستخدمي الطريق.” أضاف أحد السائقين

واقترحوا على الجهات المعنية تنظيم حركة سيرهم أثناء خروجهم من أماكن سكناهم مع إلزامهم باستخدام المسار الأيمن من الطريق وعدم تجاوز المركبات أو الانتقال بين المسارات بطريقة تشكل خطورة على حياتهم وحياة مستخدمي الطريق.

وكانت وزارة العمل قد حظرت منذ بداية الشهر الجاري توصيلَ الطلبات بالدراجات خلال الفترة من الساعة 10:00 صباحًا وحتى الساعة 3:30 عصرًا، وطيلة فترة سريان القرار الوزاري رقْم 17 لسنة 2021 م في الفترة من 1 يونيو إلى 15 سبتمبر من كل عام.

وأوضحت الوزارةُ في تعميم لها بهذا الخصوص أن الإجراء يأتي في إطار اتخاذ إجراءات للتقليل من خطر إصابة عمال التوصيل «سائقي الدراجات» بالإجهاد الحراري خلال فترة الصيف. ونوَّهت الوزارة إلى أنه يمكن لجميع الشركات والمحال الاستمرار في خدمة التوصيل عن طريق السيارات فقط خلال الفترة المذكورة.
