Doha: Under the patronage of HH the Amir Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the works of the 20th edition of Doha Forum will start on Saturday at the Sheraton Hotel, and will last for two days, under the title “Transformation into a New Era”, with the aim of launching dialogue and discussion on challenges and critical issues facing the world, promoting exchange of ideas, policy making, and the provision of viable recommendations.

The generous sponsorship of the Forum by HH the Amir reflects the interest of the state and its keenness to provide all forms of support, reasons for success and influence for this important international forum, and its importance at the local, regional and international levels.

It is expected that the new version of the Forum, which will be held in attendance this year and for the first time since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic, will be the largest since its launch, and will bring together several heads of state and government, politicians, parliamentarians, thinkers and representatives of the media, which makes the forum a real opportunity for frank dialogue between various sectors. to come up with viable solutions.

Commenting on the event, HE Executive Director of Doha Forum Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, said that the Doha Forum returns once again in its 20th edition. She highlighted that the world has witnessed great changes since the last meeting in 2019, which emphasizes, more than ever, the need to meet and take advantage of this platform to discuss the most important faced issues transition into a new era.

The Forum’s discussions and sessions will focus on the main theme of this year, which is the transformation into a new era, with a focus on four main areas: geopolitical alliances and international relations, the financial system and economic development, defense, cyber security, food security, in addition to sustainability and climate change.

The Doha Forum, launched by HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani in 2000, is a global platform in the field of contemporary international affairs, and the largest global platform for diplomacy, dialogue and diversity. The global economy has been recovering from its biggest shock since World War II, the Coronavirus pandemic, and the need for leaders and policymakers to come together to develop policy innovations aimed at saving the most lives and avoiding lasting damage.

The pandemic has changed the global economic landscape, as the world recorded, as of May 2021, more than 450 million cases of COVID-19, and more than 6 million deaths, in addition to countless effects on peoples lives, however, the change makers paved the way for progress in various fields such as technology, medicine, sustainability, and addressing racial inequality.

The Doha Forum program for this year includes many discussion sessions that will address various topics and titles, including the reforms that must be made to meet the escalating challenges in the world, reimagining business models in the post-pandemic era, misinformation and extremism via the Internet and post-pandemic Africa, and the role of the international community in managing refugee flow: Syria and beyond, the emergence of the new space sector, concomitant concerns, and the promises and risks of Artificial Intelligence and analytics that fuel decision-making processes.

The Forum sessions and discussions also address the mobilization of the rule of law to respond to the climate crisis, the smooth transition to meet energy demand during the transition to green alternatives, a clean future for natural gas, Afghanistan, the role of the West and spheres of influence in an era of non-peace, and the reality of US-Chinese competition in the Middle East and North Africa region, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution: challenges and opportunities in a new era.

The sessions of the Doha Forum in its 20th edition also include highlighting how the media covers the developments of the Palestinian cause, conveys the facts on the ground more accurately and its ability to influence and provide a promising political path forward, how to equitably distribute the vaccine, peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, the role of women in changing conflict environments and promoting the creative economy to advance economic development, Education Above All Foundation – Bold Goals: How to make it a reality, how to end the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, and achieving sustainable growth in the Arab Gulf region as the world progresses towards zero emissions.

The convening of the 20th edition of the Doha Forum clearly embodies once again the distinguished international position that the State of Qatar occupies in the network of international relations and its outstanding ability to provide open and appropriate arenas for dialogue and exchange of ideas in search of solutions to world issues. Recent decades have proven Qatar’s success in this field, and it is still on the same path.

The State of Qatar has always demonstrated, through its global standing and capabilities, its firm determination to continue to play its role to the fullest in facing crises and contribute to the community’s adoption of decisions that support international peace and security. The outputs of the Doha Forum have become broad lines, prominent indicators and work programs for diplomatic moves to address problems and challenges and paving the ground and ways for the most effective solutions to the issues and crises that haunt the world and threaten the lives of millions, in order to provide safety to humanity.

The commitment to the continuous organization of the forum reflects the belief of the State of Qatar in the importance of the word and the necessity of dialogue, as it bridges the gap between the parties, no matter how intense the differences, which is the starting point and the end point in this difficult time.

During all the challenges and crises, it has been proven that no solutions outside the sum of universal values reached by humanity after the Second World War on the one hand, and after the battles of liberation from colonialism on the other hand, have been successful.

These are the values that cannot be changed with changing circumstances and times. It has been formulated in the charters and principles of the United Nations aimed at maintaining international peace and security, resorting to dialogue and peaceful means to resolve disputes, refusing to annex the lands of others by force, the right to self-determination of peoples, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, rejection of all forms of racism and discrimination, respect for human and citizen rights, adhering to the values of justice and equality, rejecting extremism and terrorism, and promoting peaceful coexistence and international cooperation.

The role of the State of Qatar does not stop at diagnosing, criticizing and referring to crises, rather, it contributes, in word and deed, through its policy based on respect for international law and international legitimacy, by seeking to resolve disputes peacefully through mediation and by providing a space for dialogue via many platforms such as the Doha Forum and the Conference on Inter-faith Dialogue, and hosting many important international conferences concerned with addressing the most prominent contemporary crises and challenges. The State of Qatar also provides generous financial support to confront the repercussions of climate change, educate children in conflict areas around the world, supporting relief, educational, health and development projects and economic empowerment programs for women and children in many countries around the world.

The city of Doha witnessed the convention of the last edition of the forum in December 2019, which included 243 speakers, 142 nationalities, and 300 media professionals, in addition to more than 100 bilateral meetings and 40 ” viewpoint” interviews, which is the interview platform for the Doha Forum. It provides the opportunity to address the most frequently asked questions to the most prominent political and industrial figures from all over the world.

During the years 2020 and 2021, the Doha Forum continued its work virtually through a series of sessions that included a group of senior policy makers, experts and researchers to discuss several pressing global issues. ويأتي انعقاد النسخة العشرين من منتدى الدوحة ليجسد من جديد وبشكل جلي المكانة الدولية المتميزة التي تحتلها دولة قطر في شبكة العلاقات الدولية، وقدرتها الفائقة على توفير ساحات مفتوحة وملائمة للحوار وتبادل الأفكار بحثاً عن حلول لقضايا العالم، وقد أثبتت العقود الأخيرة نجاح قطر بتفوق في هذا المجال ولازالت تسير على الطريق نفسه.

وأثبتت دولة قطر على الدوام وعبر مكانتها العالمية والقدرات التي تمتلكها عزمها الثابت على مواصلة القيام بدورها على أكمل وجه بمواجهة الأزمات، والمساهمة في اتخاذ المجتمع لقرارات تدعم السلم والأمن الدوليين. وباتت مخرجات منتدى الدوحة خطوطا عريضة ومؤشرات بارزة وبرامج عمل للتحركات الدبلوماسية الكفيلة بمعالجة المشاكل والتحديات، وتمهيد الأرضية والسبل لأنجع الحلول للقضايا والأزمات، التي تؤرق العالم وتهدد حياة الملايين، من أجل العبور بالبشرية إلى بر الأمان.

ويعكس الالتزام بالتنظيم المتواصل للمنتدى إيمان دولة قطر بأهمية الكلمة وضرورة الحوار ، كونه يجسر الهوة بين الفرقاء، مهما اشتدت الخلافات وهو نقطة الابتداء ونقطة الانتهاء بهذا الزمن الصعب، فخلال جميع التحديات والأزمات ثبت أنه لم يكتب النجاح لأية حلول من خارج مجموع القيم الجامعة التي توصلت إليها الإنسانية بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية من جهة وبعد معارك التحرر من الاستعمار من جهة أخرى ، وهي القيم التي لا يجوز أن تتغير بتغير الظروف والأوقات، وقد صيغت بمواثيق الأمم المتحدة ومبادئها الهادفة إلى حفظ الأمن والسلم الدوليين واللجوء إلى الحوار والوسائل السلمية لحل المنازعات ورفض ضم أراضي الغير بالقوة، وحق تقرير المصير للشعوب، وعدم التدخل في الشؤون الداخلية للدول، ورفض كافة أشكال العنصرية والتمييز، واحترام حقوق الإنسان والمواطن، والتمسك بقيم العدالة والمساواة ونبذ التطرف والإرهاب وتعزيز التعايش السلمي والتعاون الدولي.

ولا يقف دور دولة قطر عند تشخيص الأزمات ونقدها والإشارة إليها بل تساهم قولا وعملا من خلال سياستها القائمة على احترام القانون الدولي والشرعية الدولية بالسعي لحل النزاعات سلميا عبر الوساطة وتوفير فضاء للحوار، من خلال العديد من المنصات مثل منتدى الدوحة ومؤتمر حوار الأديان ، واستضافة الكثير من المؤتمرات الدولية الهامة المعنية بمعالجة أبرز الأزمات والتحديات المعاصرة ، كما توفر دولة قطر الدعم المالي السخي لمواجهة تداعيات التغير المناخي، وتعليم الأطفال بمناطق النزاعات حول العالم، ودعم المشروعات الإغاثية والتعليمية والصحية والتنموية وبرامج التمكين الاقتصادي للنساء والأطفال بالعديد من البلدان والأقطار حول العالم.

وشهدت مدينة الدوحة انعقاد آخر نسخة من المنتدى في ديسمبر 2019، والتي ضمت 243 متحدثا و142 جنسية و300 إعلامي، إلى جانب أكثر من 100 لقاء ثنائي و40 مقابلة “وجهة نظر”، والتي تعد منصة المقابلات الخاصة بمنتدى الدوحة، وتتيح الفرصة لتوجيه أهم الأسئلة المتداولة إلى أبرز الشخصيات السياسية والصناعية من جميع أنحاء العالم.

وخلال العامين 2020 و2021، واصل منتدى الدوحة أعماله افتراضيا من خلال سلسلة من الجلسات التي ضمت مجموعة من كبار صانعي السياسات والخبراء والباحثين لمناقشة عدد من القضايا العالمية الملحة .وتتوفر هذه الجلسات الافتراضية على قنوات التواصل الاجتماعي الخاصة بمنتدى الدوحة، حيث تستمر سلسلة مقابلات وجهة نظر بشكل أسبوعي.
