Parents’ complaints regarding the mandatory weekly coronavirus test

Doha: A number of parents praised the Ministry of Education’s decision to provide rapid antigen testing devices to government schools and its keenness to ensure the safety of students, and called on the Ministry to provide tests in private schools as well.

The Student’s result? Or someone else’s?
Parents’ feedback focused on the reliability of the at-home rapid test and the ease with which it can be tampered with. Some put forward a number of loopholes and stressed the futility of the decision.

A Twitter user tweeted: “How does the school make sure that it is the Student’s result and not someone else’s. There are parents who want their children to go to school at any cost, as we have noticed this before distance education, when children were sent to school sneezing and coughing, the important thing, for them, is that they go to school. Second, how do you make sure of the 48 hours time period? Third, didn’t they declare that the rapid antigen test as inaccurate?”.

Another tweeted “how would the Ministry know that the test result is legit?”, and another: “This test can be easily tampered with, meaning it is not 100% guaranteed.”.

Conducting these tests at schools in coordination with MoPH
Given the many questions about the effectiveness of this obligation, some suggested that these tests be conducted at school grounds in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health.

“They should do these tests at schools, not at home.” one person commented, “Request cars and nurses from the Ministry of Public Health, because, thank God, our state can provide everything, like the best doctors and nurses so that students can be tested at their schools.”

A stressful procedure for those with many children
Another problem, is that if the family had many children, meaning that the procedure would be cumbersome and costly for families whose children go to private schools.

A Tweeter said: “having to test children every week? Imagine how tiring that would be for those with 4, 5 or 7 children!!”

Parents of students in private schools: it will cost a lot
Parents of students who attend private schools complained about the decision to provide rapid antigen testing devices only to public schools

and another tweeted: “Well, those who have 5 Children or more attending private schools, testing them every week would be unbearable on top of the school’s bottomless expanses, which by the way gets more expensive each year”.

A number of tweeters suggested that the ministry oblige private schools to provide tests to students, or the ministry provides these tests to all students alike, especially since the decision was mandatory by the Ministry.

One of the tweeters commented: “Private schools’ prices are rising every year, At least the Ministry can oblige them to provide these tests for students,” and another person agreed: “Why does the parent has to bear the costs of the tests? Why don’t these schools provide tests at their expense?”

One person said: “Citizens have equal rights and duties in accordance with Article 34 of the Constitution, and the tests are mandatory by the ministry for the child to be able to go to school, it has nothing to do with where the child goes to school, whether it was government or private school.

Why does the recovering and vaccinated students must be weekly tested?
A number of parents questioned why all students, even those who have been vaccinated and recovered from Covid-19, are also required to take the home test.

For that, Muhammad Abdullah Al-Maraghi, Director of the Health and Safety Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, had confirmed – to the “Social Distance” program on Qatar TV – that the targeted group for Coronavirus testing is all students, whether they are recovering, immunized or vaccinated, which left a number of questions about the privileges of vaccinated and recovered students.

Will rapid antigen tests be readily available in all pharmacies?
Some have addressed an anticipated problem, which is the availability of rapid antigen testing devices in pharmacies and complexes, with the increase in demand for them, they might run out of stock, as it happened in the recent period.

أشاد عدد من أولياء أمور الطلاب بقرار وزارة التربية والتعليم بتوفير أجهزة اختبار المستضدات السريع للمدراس الحكومية وحرصها على ضمان سلامة الطلاب، وطالب أولياء أمور الوزارة بتوفير الفحوصات في المدارس الخاصة أيضاً.

فحص الطالب؟ أم فحص شخص آخر؟
ركزت ردود فعل أولياء الأمور على مدى مصداقية الفحص السريع في المنزل وإمكانية التلاعب به بكل سهولة. وطرح البعض عدداً من الثغرات وأكدوا على عدم الجدوى من القرار.

وذكر أحد المغردين: “كيف تتأكد المدرسة انه فحص الطالب وليس شخص آخر. في أولياء أمور يبون الأطفال تروح المدارس لاي سبب كان و قبل التعليم عن بعد الأطفال كانت بتروح المدرسة وهم يعطسون و يكحون، المهم انهم يرحوا المدرسه. ثانيا كيف تتأكد من مرور ٤٨ ساعه. ثالثا مش تم الإعلان ان الفحص السريع غير دقيق.”

وقال آخر: “شنو الي يضمن للوزاره ان قراءه الفحص سليمة.”

وغرد أحدهم: “هالتست ممكن التلاعب فيه بسهووولة يعني مب مضمون ١٠٠٪”

ووافقه آخر: “طيب ممكن الطالب يكون مصاب ويقوم بفحص شخص غير مصاب. والتعهد يتم توقيعها من الطالب بدلًا من ولي الامر الطلاب مراهقين.”

إجراء الفحص في المدرسة بالتنسيق مع الصحة
ونظراً لكثرة الأسئلة حول مدى فعالية هذا الإلزام، اقترح البعض أن يتم إجراء الفحص داخل المدرسة بالتنسيق مع وزارة الصحة.

وعلق شخص: “المفروض الفحص ينعمل من خلال المدرسه وليس البيت”، “اطلبوا سيارات وممرضين من وزارة الصحه ودولتنا موفرة كل شيء ولله الحمد وعلى اعلى المستويات من اطباء وممرضين ويتم فحصهم داخل المدرسة.”

إجراء مرهق لمن لديهم عدد من الأطفال
وتطرق البعض إلى مشكلة أخرى وهي إذا ما كان لدى الأسرة عدد من الأطفال، وذلك يعني أن الإجراء سيكون مرهقا لأولياء الأمور ومكلفا للأسر التي يتعلم أطفالها في المدارس الخاصة.

فقال مغرد: “كل اسبوع اعمل لهم فحص هذي متعبة الي عندهم 4 او 5 او 7 اطفال من بنات واولاد .”

أهالي الطلاب في المدارس الخاصة: تكلفة مرتفعة
اشتكى أولياء أمور الطلاب الذين يدرسون في المدارس الخاصة من القرار الذي يقضي بتوفير أجهزة اختبار المستضدات السريع للمدارس الحكومية فقط.

وقالت مغردة: “انزين واللي في مدارس خاصه وعنده فوق 5 عيال كل اسبوع يفحصهم والله سالفه ومصاريف وغير المدارس طلباتهم وايد ماتخلص ويرفعون اسعارهم كل سنه.”

واقترح عدد من المغردين أن تُلزم الوزارة المدارس الخاصة بتوفير الاختبارات للطلاب أو توفره الوزارة لجميع الطلاب على حدٍ سواء خاصة أن القرار إلزامي من الوزارة.

وعلق أحد المغردين: ” المدارس الخاصه ذبحونا كل سنه زياده زياده ..عالاقل الزموهم يوفرون الفحوصات للطلاب”، ووافقه شخص آخر :”ليش ولي الامر يتحمل تكاليف الفحص فالمدارس الخاصة ليش ماتوفر هالمدارس الفحص على حسابها.”

وقال شخص: “المواطنون متساوون في الحقوق والواجبات حسب الماده 34 من الدستور ، والفحص يتعلق كشرط من الوزارة على حضور الطفل ليس له علاقه بالجهة التي يدرس فيها الطفل حكومية أم خاصه.”

لماذا الطالب المتعافي والمطعم يفحص أسبوعياً؟
تسائل عدد من أولياء الأمور عن سبب إلزام جميع الطلاب حتى المطعمين والمتعافين من إجراء الاختبار المنزلي.

وكان قد أكد محمد عبدالله المراغي، مدير إدارة الصحة والسلامة بوزارة التربية والتعليم والتعليم العالي – في مداخلة مع برنامج “المسافة الاجتماعية” على تليفزيون قطر – إن الفئة المستهدفة بفحص كورونا هي جميع الطلاب، سواء كانوا متعافين أو محصنين أو مطعمين، مما ترك عددا من التساؤلات حول امتيازات الطلاب المتطعمين والمتعافين.

هل ستتوفر المسحات في جميع الصيدليات بسهولة؟
وتطرق البعض إلى مشكلة قد تحصل وهي اختفاء أجهزة الفحص السريع في الصيدليات والمجمعات مع ازدياد الطلب عليها، مثلما حصل في الفترة الأخيرة.
