The private tutoring phenomenon .. Is there a real need for a private tutor?

Doha: Why have all the solutions developed by the competent authorities not succeeded in curbing the phenomenon of private lessons, and have private lessons become a social habit that parents resort to regardless of their child’s educational level, especially at the secondary level, or is there a real need for a private teacher to raise the educational level of the student?

Al-Raya addressed these questions to a number of educational experts and parents in an attempt to understand the reasons to reach proposals that may be useful in the face of this phenomenon, the participants in the inquiry agreed that private lessons hinder the educational process and lead to lower concentration rates of students during school hours, as well as contribute to the impact on their colleagues as they rely on a private teacher who will come to their homes and explain all lessons in addition to doing homework.

They called for the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to tighten control over tutoring teachers to eliminate this phenomenon, as well as to activate enriching lessons in schools to compensate for the educational loss of students during the period of distance learning and integrated education.

They explained that the cost per session amounts to 500 riyals at the rate of 6000 riyals per month per school subject for the high school student, while the session for elementary and middle school students ranges from 300 to 400 riyals per single session and 200 riyals per student in the group of 8 students.

They stressed that the sets of enriching lessons in schools that precede the tests as well as additional support classes can provide the weak and average school student with a lot of knowledge and improve his academic level.

For their part, a number of citizens attributed parents resorting to private lessons to several factors, mainly the intensity of the curriculum as well as the incompetence of some teachers, as well as the burden of homework and the pursuit of raising the academic level of students and the low level of educational centers.

الدوحة: لماذا لم تفلحْ كلُّ الحلول التي وضعتها الجهاتُ المختصةُ في كبح جماح ظاهرة الدروس الخصوصيّة، وهل أصبحت الدروس الخصوصية عادة اجتماعية يلجأ إليها أولياء الأمور بصرف النظر عن مستوى ابنهم التعليميّ ولا سيما في المرحلة الثانويّة، أم هناك حاجة فعلية للمدرس الخصوصي لرفع مُستوى الطالب؟.

الراية توجّهت بهذه الأسئلة إلى عددٍ من الخبراء التربويّين وأولياء الأمور في محاولة لفهم الأسباب وصولًا للمُقترحات التي قد تفيد في مُواجهة هذه الظاهرة، فأجمع المشاركون في التحقيق على أن الدروس الخصوصية تَعوق العملية التعليمية وتؤدي إلى انخفاض معدلات تركيز الطلبة أثناء الدوام المدرسي، إلى جانب المساهمة في التأثير على زملائهم في ظل اعتمادهم على مدرس خاص سيأتي للمنزل ويشرح كل الدروس إلى جانب القيام بالواجبات المنزليّة.

وطالبوا بضرورة تشديد وزارة التربية والتعليم والتعليم العالي الرقابةَ على معلمي الدروس الخصوصية، للقضاء على تلك الظاهرة، فضلًا عن تفعيل الدروس الإثرائية بالمدارس لتعويض الفاقد التعليميّ للطلاب خلال فترة التعلم عن بُعد والتعليم المُدمج.

وأوضحوا أنَّ تكلفة الحصّة الواحدة تصل إلى 500 ريال بمعدل 6000 ريال شهريًا للمادة الواحدة لطالب المرحلة الثانوية، بينما تتراوح الحصة لطلبة المرحلتَين الابتدائيّة والإعداديّة بين 300 و400 ريال للحصة المنفردة و200 ريال للطالب الواحد في المجموعة التي يصل عددها إلى 8 طلاب.

وأكّدوا أن مجموعات الدروس الإثرائية الموجودة بالمدارس والتي تسبق الاختبارات وكذلك حصص الدعم الإضافي كفيلة بتزويد الطالب الضعيف والمتوسط بالكثير من المعارف وتحسين مستواه الأكاديمي.

من جانبهم، عزا عددٌ من المواطنين لجوء أولياء الأمور للدروس الخصوصية إلى عدة عوامل، على رأسها كثافة المناهج فضلًا عن قلة كفاءة بعض المُعلمين، إلى جانب عبء الواجبات المنزلية والسعي إلى رفع مُستوى الطالب الأكاديمي وانخفاض مُستوى المراكز التعليميّة.
