Over five Furjan parks to be built across Qatar

Doha: The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar has announced the start of implementation of several projects to build public parks within residential neighborhoods across Qatar, in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).
The Secretary of the Committee Eng. Amna Al Bader, clarified that the design and implementation of neighborhoods parks, which is named Al Furjan Parks, comes within our Strategic Plan that aims to humanize cities and change a car-centric culture to a pedestrian and cyclist-friendly culture. The Committees plan also aims to create recreational spaces and plazas that contribute to encouraging families to lead a healthy lifestyle and practice sports from nearby enjoyable destinations just outside their closed doors. Thus, the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar is working in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, on the design and implementation of large green spaces such as central parks that serve tourists and visitors across the country. The strategic plan also include implementing small green spaces such as Al Furjan Parks that serve residents of specific neighborhoods, in addition to creating green plazas implemented in various locations to help protect the environment.
Regarding Al Furjan Parks projects, Eng. Amna confirmed that it is planned to deliver a park for every area across Qatar, to be a breather for many residential neighborhoods in Qatar. The parks are designed to be close to homes, easily reachable by pedestrians or cyclists, which encourage the people of the area to visit them regularly and spend quality time in a healthy and safe environment, which enhances social gathering and communication.
Eng. Amna Al Bader also added that increasing green areas within cities contributes to enhanced sustainability of environmental development in line with the fourth pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to manage the environment in a way that ensures harmony and consistency between economic and social development and environmental protection, and to achieve the required balance between them.
The Climate Change Department Director at MME Abdulhadi Al Marri, stated that the ministry has allocated a number of lands across Qatar for Al Furjan Parks project to expand the construction of parks, planting of trees and increasing green spaces within the strategic plan, considring its impact on preserving the environment. These parks contribute to improve weather conditions, reduce pollution and lower temperatures during different periods of the year. They also have a key role in purifying the atmosphere and limiting the effects of climate change. Furjan parks will also contribute in protecting the neighborhood from dust, which will reflect positively on the health and safety of people.
On the other hand, the Director of Public Parks Department at MME Mohammed Al Khouri said: “The parks are basically constructed to act as a breather for community members. Thus, our prime focus is people and we work to provide high-quality service due to the fact that public parks contribute to increasing green area and improving quality of life, and are considered as natural filters to purify the air from carbon emissions, one important factor in increasing the share of each person per square meter of green space and achieving MMEs objectives within the strategy of beautifying cities. The Public Parks Department at MME is making extensive efforts to equip all public parks in the country by identifying and studying plant species and trees that will be carefully planted in the parks so that it consumes small quantities of water, and are adapted to the local climate and environment conditions. Plantation will be a mixture between environmental trees and shady trees, considering that these parks are distributed in a thoughtful manner as per priority, and population density of different areas. The plan also considers the provision of appropriate services and various designs, according to the residents needs.”
The Projects Manager of the Committee Eng. Jassim Abdulrahman Fakhroo stated that the committee is designing Al Furjan Parks to include many features that make it enjoyable destination for all family members, including elderly, youth and children. These features and services vary according to the area of the park, such as pedestrian and cyclist paths, seats, and some parks include kids play areas, fitness equipment, kiosks, and others. Elderly people and people with special needs are also taken into consideration in the designs.
He added that designs for several parks are completed for areas including Fereej Al Soudan, Fereej Hazm Al Markhiya, Al Thameed, Rawdat egdaim, Al Mearad among others. The park construction projects are awarded to five local contractors including JH Construction, Al Nakheel Agriculture and Trading, Boom General Contracting, Elegancia Landscape and AG Middle East. Further, Eng. Jassim Fakhroo explained that the scope of works in these projects includes also implementing infrastructure works such as irrigation, electricity, rainwater drainage, and others. Additional works will also be implemented in some parks including kids play area and service buildings that include prayer areas, toiles, guard rooms, and others.
On the other hand, the Projects Design Manager at the Committee Eng. Reem Khalid Al Muraikh, stated that she is currently working on implementation of designs of three parks on a total area of about 42,000 sq.m. Two of these parks are located in Al Rayyan Municipality including Al Soudan Park on an area of 2300 sq.m, which is planned to open for public in the second quarter of 2022, and Fereej Al Thameed Park to be built on 15,750 sqmt. Whereas the third park located in Doha Municipality at Hazam Al Markhiya is to be built on an area of about 24,340 sq.m and these two parks are scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2022. She also added that Al Furjan Parks are being implemented with the aim of encouraging people of neighborhoods to interact with the environment around them and enjoy the nature. The size of the allocated land is taken into consideration during the design of the parks, as well as the services that can be provided accordingly, such as provision of fitness equipment, kiosks, and various plants that give aesthetic appearance and make the park an attractive and enjoyable spot for residents of the area.
Eng. Reem further added that the contract for construction of three parks is design and build contract, assigned to Al Nakheel Agriculture and Trading Company, who has already started preparatory works on the site.
The Projects Design Manager at the Committee Eng. Mansour Jafar Al Mosawi, stated that design implementation of several parks along a total area of 34,553 sq.m is underway, including Al Thumama Park in Doha Municipality, Al Wajbah Park in Al Rayyan Municipality and three parks in Al Wakra Municipality.
Eng. Al Mosawi added that these projects are assigned to Elegancia Landscape Company, where the preliminary works are underway, and the park will be opened for public in the second quarter of 2022, except Al Wajbah Park, which is scheduled to open in third quarter of 2022.
Regarding the design of Al Thumama Park on an area of about 4,400 sq.m, Eng. Al Mosawi clarified that it is located in an area mixed with residential units, sports and commercial facilities and offices, and is located near two mosques that attract visitors to this area. Therefore, it is designed to match the surrounding environment and contribute to creating a healthy green environment that encourages social interaction of residents, employees and visitors. The Park will include many seating areas and children play area, in addition to a shared path for joggers and cyclists. It is also taken into account to increase the percentage of green areas and plantation to cover about 70% of the park. The Park is connected from the south and east sides by a railway that currently exists between boundaries of buildings and the park, integrating with the design to facilitate access to the park by bicycle or on foot.
Regarding Furjan Parks at Rawdat Egdaim and Al Mearad in Al Rayyan Municipality, Eng. Jazmine Sheikh, Projects Design Manager at the Committee, stated that the first park is to be built on an area of about 24,000 sq.m, while the second is to be built on an area of 3,520 sq.m. The construction of these parks is assigned to AG Middle East, who has started preliminary works on the site, and the two parks are scheduled to open to public in Q3 of 2022.
Eng. Jazmine added that the location of the park and the surrounding buildings are taken into consideration during the design. For example, during the design of Rawdat Egdaim Park, the area was studied, and the location of the park was considered where it is surrounded by a nursery, a mosque and a commercial complex, and also surrounded by streets from north, east and south. Therefore, it is proposed to implement an alley, which is called Sikka, next to the park from the west to integrate with the design of the park and facilitate access. The Park designs include the provision of multiple entry/exit points along the perimeters, considering each neighborhood and their requirements with clear passages to ensure visitors safety and ease of access.
Eng. Maryam Al Kuwari, Projects Design Manager at the Committee, stated that she is supervising the design of several parks in Al Rayyan Municipality including Bu Hamour Park on an area of 5,800 sq.m, Al Sailiya Park on an area of 6,370 sq.m, and Al Muraikh Park on an area of 3,640 sq.m. These projects are assigned to Boom General contracting and are scheduled to open to public in the second quarter of 2022. Eng. Maryam Al Kuwari confirmed that the parks are being designed in line with the areas character, the surrounding buildings and landmark attractions in the premises. For example, the main design lines of Bu Hamour Park are inspired by one of the distinctive elements in the Bu Hamour area, the old markets such as Wholesale Market, Thursday and Friday Market and others. The arches of parks are sketched similar to the designs of traditional market shadings, considering their function in proportion to the use of the park. The design also includes pedestrian and jogging paths to facilitate exercise. Ease of access to the park was considered through walkways connected to surrounding areas, without the need to use cars.
It is worth noting that the Supervisory Committee has previously implemented many central parks and plazas including 5/6 Park, Al Daayen Park, Al Shura Plaza, Post Office Plaza and other projects that contribute to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the cities. These projects are also key factors in improving climate and preserving environment. They also contribute to enhancing the community lifestyle, encourage them to follow a healthy lifestyle and practice sports, especially considering the Covid-19 pandemic that highlighted the urgent need for such recreational destinations.
The committee works in coordination with several ministries and other entities of the State such as Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar Museums Authority, Qatar Railway Company, Private Engineering Bureau among others. This Committee is responsible for five major tasks including construction of central public parks, provision of dedicated lanes for pedestrians and bicycles, development of the Doha Corniche, development of Central Doha, and increasing trees and green areas.
The Committees work will contribute to enhance sustainability through minimizing environmental pollution, reducing emission of CO2 through minimized consumption and conservation of energy resources. It will also focus on provision of more public transport options aiming at reduced use of private cars and improve lifestyle through clean and safe transportation. It will also work for provision of healthy environment within residential neighborhoods and places of public gatherings through increased afforestation and landscaping, which will greatly help in reducing temperature in cities.

الدوحة: أعلنت لجنة الإشراف على تجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة بالدولة عن البدء بتنفيذ عدة مشروعات لإنشاء حدائق عامة داخل الأحياء في أماكن متفرقة في قطر، بالتعاون مع وزارة البلدية والبيئة.
وقالت المهندسة آمنة البدر أمينة السر باللجنة، إن تصميم وتنفيذ حدائق الفرجان يقع ضمن الخطة الاستراتيجية للجنة، التي تهدف إلى أنسنة المدن وتغيير ثقافة تعتمد بالأساس على استخدام السيارات إلى ثقافة صديقة للمشاة وراكبي الدراجات الهوائية، فضلا عن إنشاء وجهات وساحات تساهم في تشجيع جميع أفراد العائلة على اتباع نمط حياة صحي وممارسة الرياضة، واختيار وجهات قريبة وممتعة خارج نطاق المباني المغلقة.
وأوضحت لجنة الإشراف على تجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة بالدولة في هذا السياق أنها تعمل بالتعاون مع وزارة البلدية والبيئة على تصميم وتنفيذ مساحات خضراء كبيرة كالحدائق المركزية التي تخدم السياح والزوار من جميع أنحاء الدولة، وكذا تنفيذ مساحات خضراء صغيرة كحدائق الفرجان التي تخدم سكان منطقة محددة، بالإضافة إلى الساحات الخضراء التي يتم تنفيذها في أماكن متفرقة لتساعد على حماية البيئة.
وعن مشروعات حدائق الفرجان، نوهت المهندسة آمنة بأنه من المقرر أن يتم إنشاء حديقة لكل منطقة في جميع أنحاء قطر لتكون متنفساً للعديد من الأحياء السكنية في الدولة، لافتة إلى أنه يتم تصميم الحدائق لتكون قريبة من المنازل ويسهل الوصول إليها بدون الحاجة لاستخدام السيارة، ما يشجع أهالي المنطقة على زيارتها بصفة مستمرة وقضاء وقت ممتع بطريقة صحية وآمنة، وما يتيح أيضا لأهل المنطقة فرصة للالتقاء والتجمع بالحديقة، وهو ما يعزز الحياة الاجتماعية والتواصل.
وأضافت أن زيادة المسطحات الخضراء داخل المدن، تساهم في تعزيز استدامة التنمية البيئية بما يتماشى مع الركيزة الرابعة في رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030، التي تهدف إلى إدارة البيئة بشكل يضمن الانسجام والتناسق بين التنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية وحماية البيئة، وتحقيق التوازن المطلوب بينها.
من ناحيته، قال السيد عبدالهادي المري مدير إدارة التغير المناخي بوزارة البلدية والبيئة، إن تخصيص الوزارة العديد من مساحات الأراضي لتنفيذ مشروعات حدائق الفرجان، يندرج ضمن الخطة الاستراتيجية للوزارة للتوسع في إنشاء الحدائق وزراعة الأشجار وزيادة المساحات الخضراء، لما لها من تأثير إيجابي على البيئة، حيث إنها تساهم في تحسين ظروف الطقس والحد من التلوث وخفض درجات الحرارة خلال فترات العام المختلفة، علاوة على دورها الأساسي في تنقية الجو والحد من آثار التغير المناخي، ومساهمة هذه الحدائق في حماية الفرجان من الأتربة والغبار، بما ينعكس بشكل إيجابي على صحة وسلامة السكان.
وقال السيد محمد الخوري مدير إدارة الحدائق، بوزارة البلدية والبيئة من جهته إن الحدائق في الأساس أنشئت لتوفير متنفس لأفراد المجتمع “ولذا فالجمهور هو بؤرة اهتمامنا ونعمل على توفير خدمة عالية الجودة نظراً لكون الحدائق العامة تساهم في زيادة الرقعة الخضراء والارتقاء بجودة الحياة، وتعتبر بمثابة فلاتر طبيعية لتنقية الهواء وتقليل الانبعاث الكربوني، وأحد أهم الأسباب في زيادة حصة الفرد في المتر المربع من المساحة الخضراء “.
وأضاف أن الإدارة تبذل جهوداً واسعة لتجهيز جميع الحدائق العامة في الدولة من خلال تحديد ودراسة الأنواع النباتية والأشجار التي ستزرع في الحدائق بعناية بحيث تستهلك كميات مياه قليلة ومتأقلمة مع ظروف المناخ والبيئة المحلية، وتكون مزيجا بين الأشجار البيئية والأشجار الظليلة، مع مراعاة أن توزيع تلك الحدائق يتم بطريقة مدروسة حسب الأولوية طبقاً للكثافة السكانية للمناطق المختلفة، وكذلك تزويدها بالخدمات المناسبة حسب الاحتياجات لسكان تلك المناطق وتكون بتصاميم متنوعة.
ومن جانبه، أوضح المهندس جاسم عبدالرحمن فخرو مدير مشروعات بلجنة الإشراف على تجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة بالدولة، أن اللجنة تقوم بتصميم حدائق الفرجان لتتضمن العديد من الخصائص التي تجعلها وجهة ممتعة لجميع أفراد الأسرة من كبار السن والشباب والأطفال، مبينا أن هذه الخصائص والخدمات تختلف تبعاً لمساحة الحديقة، مثل مسارات للمشاة والدراجات الهوائية ومقاعد للجلوس والاسترخاء، بينما يتضمن البعض أماكن لألعاب الأطفال ومعدات اللياقة البدنية وأكشاكا وغيرها، مع مراعاة كبار السن وذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة خلال التصميم.
وأشار إلى أنه تم البدء في تنفيذ التصاميم الخاصة بعدة حدائق منها حدائق فريج السودان، وفريج حزم المرخية، والثميد، وروضة إقديم، والمعراض وغيرها، موضحا أنه تم إسناد مشروعات إنشاء الحدائق لخمسة مقاولين محليين.
وذكر المهندس فخرو أن نطاق الأعمال في هذه المشروعات يتضمن تنفيذ أعمال البنية التحتية كشبكات الري والكهرباء وتصريف مياه الأمطار وغيرها، كما سيتم تنفيذ أعمال إضافية في بعض الحدائق، تشمل منطقة لألعاب الأطفال ومباني خدمية تتضمن العديد من المرافق ذات الصلة.
وأفادت المهندسة ريم خالد المريخي مدير تصميم مشروعات باللجنة، بأن العمل يجري حالياً على تنفيذ تصميم ثلاث حدائق بمساحة إجمالية تبلغ حوالي 42 ألف متر مربع، تقع حديقتان منها في بلدية الريان، هما حديقة فريج السودان بمساحة 2300 متر مربع، ومن المقرر فتحها للجمهور في الربع الثاني من عام 2022، وحديقة فريج الثميد بمساحة تبلغ حوالي 15,750 مترا مربعا، بينما تقع الثالثة في بلدية الدوحة، وهي حديقة حزم المرخية، وتبلغ مساحتها حوالي 24,340 مترا مربعا، ومن المقرر فتحها للجمهور في الربع الثالث من العام ذاته.
وبينت أن تنفيذ حدائق الفرجان يهدف لتشجيع أهل الفريج على التفاعل مع البيئة المحيطة بهم والاستمتاع بالطبيعة، مع الأخذ في الاعتبار أثناء تصميم الحدائق مساحة الأرض المخصصة لكل منها، والخدمات التي يمكن توفيرها وفقاً لذلك، لافتة إلى أن عقد إنشاء الحدائق الثلاث هو عقد تصميم وتنفيذ.
وأشار المهندس منصور جعفر الموسوي مدير تصميم مشروعات باللجنة، إلى أن العمل يجري حالياً على الانتهاء من تنفيذ تصميم عدة حدائق بمساحة إجمالية تبلغ 34,553 مترا مربعا، تتضمن حديقة الثمامة في بلدية الدوحة وحديقة الوجبة في بلدية الريان وثلاث حدائق في بلدية الوكرة، مستعرضا الأعمال التمهيدية لهذه المشاريع وفتحها أمام الجمهور.
وعن تصميم حديقة الثمامة التي تبلغ مساحتها حوالي 4,400 متر مربع، أفاد الموسوي بأنها تقع في منطقة تتضمن منشآت سكنية، بالإضافة لمنشآت رياضية وتجارية ومكاتب، كما أنها تقع قرب اثنين من المساجد التي تجتذب الزوار لهذه المنطقة، ما جعل تصميمها يتناسب مع البيئة المحيطة بها، وبحيث تساهم في توفير بيئة صحية خضراء تشجع على التفاعل الاجتماعي لساكني المنطقة والعاملين بها والزوار، متطرقا في سياق متصل لمزايا الحديقة والمرافق المختلفة التي تتضمنها للكبار والصغار بما في ذلك الرياضية منها.
وحول حديقتي روضة إقديم والمعراض في بلدية الريان، أفادت المهندسة ياسمين الشيخ مدير تصميم مشروعات باللجنة، بأن مساحة الأولى تبلغ حوالي 24,000 متر مربع، بينما تبلغ مساحة الثانية 3,520 مترا مربعا، مشيرة إلى أنه تم البدء في تنفيذ الأعمال التمهيدية بالموقع، حيث من المقرر أن يتم فتح الحديقتين للجمهور في الربع الثالث من عام 2022، مع الأخذ في الاعتبار موقع الحديقة والمباني المحيطة بها أثناء التصميم.
أما المهندسة مريم الكواري، مدير تصميم مشروعات باللجنة فتحدثت عن عملية الإشراف على تصميم عدة حدائق في بلدية الريان، هي حديقة بو هامور بمساحة 5,800 متر مربع، وحديقة السيلية بمساحة 6,370 مترا مربعا، وحديقة مريخ بمساحة 3,640 مترا مربعا. وقالت إنه من المقرر فتح الحدائق للجمهور في بالربع الثاني من عام 2022، مؤكدة أن تصميم الحدائق يتناسب مع روح المنطقة والمباني المحيطة ونقاط الجذب المتواجدة بالقرب من الموقع.
يذكر أن لجنة الإشراف على تجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة بالدولة، نفذت في السابق العديد من الحدائق المركزية والساحات مثل حديقة 5/6 وحديقة الظعاين وساحة الشورى وساحة البريد وغيرها من المشروعات التي تساهم في إضفاء مظهر جمالي على المدن، وتحسين المناخ والحفاظ على البيئة، والمساهمة في تغيير نمط حياة أفراد المجتمع وتشجيعهم على اتباع نمط حياة صحي وممارسة الرياضة، لا سيما أن جائحة /كورونا/ أظهرت الحاجة الملحة لمثل هذه الوجهات الترفيهية.
وتعمل اللجنة بالتنسيق مع عدة وزارات وهيئات حكومية بالدولة، وتتضمن أعمالها خمس مهام رئيسية تشمل إنشاء حدائق عامة مركزية وحدائق الفرجان، وتوفير مسارات خاصة للمشاة والدراجات الهوائية، وتطوير كورنيش الدوحة، وتطوير منطقة الدوحة المركزية بالإضافة إلى أعمال التشجير وزيادة المسطحات الخضراء.
وتساهم أعمال اللجنة أيضا في تعزيز الاستدامة من خلال التقليل من التلوث البيئي ونسبة انبعاث ثاني أكسيد الكربون ومن استهلاك موارد الطاقة والحفاظ عليها، بجانب مساهمتها في توفير مسارات متصلة للمشاة والدراجات الهوائية، ما يساهم بدوره في توفير خيارات للتنقل وتخفيض الاعتماد على السيارات وتحسين نمط الحياة وزيادة نسبة التشجير والمسطحات الخضراء وبالتالي خفض درجات الحرارة في المدن وتوفير بيئة صحية داخل الأحياء السكنية وأماكن التجمعات الحيوية.
