The vaccine is the only way to protect our students from Covid: Dr. Jamila Ajami

Doha: Dr. Jamila Al Ajami, Executive Director of the Infection Control Department at Hamad Medical Corporation, dispelled the concerns of parents who are reluctant to schedule appointments for their children aged 12 to 17 to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine, stressing categorically that COVID-19 vaccines are not experimental, but safe and feasible, for passing through all the required stages of clinical trials, which have shown effectiveness and safety on human health.

In a special interview for “Al-Sharq” as the start of the school year approaches, Dr. Al-Ajami called on parents to register appointments for the coronavirus vaccine, as it is the only way to protect against it and its rapidly spreading mutations, and has become the main cause of the rise in cases of COVID-19, “COVID-19 has become a virus that we need to co-exist with, making it imperative to get the vaccine so life can get back to normal, and for students to return to their school seats, which has become different because of the COVID-19 outbreak,” she said.

* Protecting children

Dr. Al-Ajami considered that the concerns of parents about vaccinating their children are justified, pointing out that this is not new, as history has shown that parents are afraid to expose their children to vaccines, as happened with the vaccine against chickenpox, but it has become a past, and most families are convinced to subject their children to these vaccines, pointing out that this matter, although it takes some time, but society will be convinced in all categories of the importance of obtaining the vaccine until life returns to normal, and it also contributes In protecting children from virus infection, given the results of studies that have confirmed the vaccine’s ability to protect children from virus symptoms in the event of infection, companies that Qatar have dealt with to secure the vaccines have not recorded any deaths from coronavirus vaccines, whether Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna, so families have to balance the positives of getting the vaccine with the negatives of not getting it.

In her speech, Dr. Al Ajami recommended that parents should prepare their children to receive their school year with a lot of optimism about reducing the epidemic, by scheduling their children aged 12-17 to get the vaccine, and working to strengthen daily precautions as parents prepare to send their children to school, by training their young children on social distancing, the need to make them aware not to share their school supplies with other peers, and the importance of hand washing to reduce the risk of infection, parents should also listen to their children’s fears and work to reassure them.

ودعت الدكتورة العجمي في حوار خاص لـ”الشرق” مع اقتراب بدء العام الدراسي، أولياء الأمور تسجيل مواعيد للحصول على اللقاح المضاد لفيروس كورونا، لاعتباره الوسيلة الوحيدة للحماية منه ومتحوراته التي تتمتع بسرعة الانتشار، وباتت السبب الرئيسي في ارتفاع حالات الإصابة بفيروس كورونا “كوفيد-19″، متابعة قولها “إنَّ فيروس كورونا أصبح فيروسا لابد التعايش معه، الأمر الذي يجعل الحصول على اللقاح المضاد له ضرورة حتمية لعودة الحياة إلى طبيعتها، ولعودة الطلبة إلى مقاعدهم الدراسية الأمر الذي بات مختلفا بسبب تفشي فيروس كورونا “كوفيد-19”.

* حماية الأطفال

واعتبرت الدكتورة العجمي أنَّ مخاوف الأهالي حيال تطعيم أبنائهم له مبرراته، لافتة إلى أنَّ هذا ليس بالأمر الجديد، حيث أثبت التاريخ أنَّ الأهالي يخشون تعريض أبنائهم للقاحات، كما حدث حيال اللقاح المضاد لجدري الماء، إلا أنَّ الأمر أصبح ماضيا، وباتت أغلب الأسر مقتنعة بإخضاع أبنائهم لهذه اللقاحات، مشيرة إلى أنَّ هذا الأمر وإن تطلب بعض الوقت، إلا أنَّ المجتمع سيقتنع بكافة فئاته بأهمية الحصول على اللقاح حتى تعود الحياة إلى سائر عهدها، كما أنه يسهم في حماية الأطفال من الإصابة بالفيروس، نظرا لنتائج الدراسات التي أكدت قدرة اللقاح على حماية الأطفال من أعراض الفيروس في حال الإصابة، إضافة إلى أنَّه لم تسجل الشركات التي تعاملت معها دولة قطر في استيراد اللقاح من قبلها أي حالة وفاة أو غيرها بسبب اللقاحات المضادة لفيروس كورونا سواء فايزر- بيونتيك، أو موديرنا، لذا على الأسر أن توازن بين الإيجابيات جراء الحصول على اللقاح والسلبيات من عدم الحصول عليه.

وأوصت الدكتورة العجمي في سياق حديثها الأهالي بضرورة تهيئة أبنائهم التهيئة التي تجعلهم يتسقبلون عامهم الدراسي بالكثير من التفاؤل حيال الحد من تفشي الوباء، من خلال تحديد موعد أطفالهم من عمر 12-17 سنة للحصول على اللقاح، والعمل على تعزيز الاحتياطات اليومية أثناء استعداد الآباء لإرسال أطفالهم للمدرسة، من خلال تدريب أبنائهم من ذوي الأعمار الصغيرة على التباعد الجسدي، وضرورة توعيتهم بعدم مشاركة مسلتزماتهم المدرسية مع أقرانهم الآخرين، وأهمية غسل اليدين للحد من خطر الإصابة بالعدوى، كما على الأهالي الإصغاء إلى مخاوف أبنائهم والعمل على طمأنتهم.
