Sports highlight Qatar National Library February lineup

Doha: With National Sports Day falling on the second Tuesday of the month, Qatar National Library is celebrating the occasion with a lineup of sports-focused events in February. These special sessions are part of a broader catalog of virtual and in-person programs scheduled throughout the month for parents, educators, researchers, budding public speakers, inquisitive young minds, and those with an interest in business, economics, and politics, among other disciplines.

Among the first events of the month is the “Childrens Linguistic Development” lecture on February 2, which will focus on childcare and early learning. Parents, educators, and researchers will join speech pathologist Eman Darwish in an online lecture to learn about when children can be expected to utter their first words, the causes of speech delay in children and other topics related to early development.

On the same day, the online “2021 Global Economic Outlook” will provide insights on business, economic and political developments worldwide amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The lecture will be led by Agathe Demarais, Global Forecasting Director at the Economist Intelligence Unit.

The pandemic will also be the focus of the February 4 lecture “Human Development in Post-COVID Era,” which will be delivered by a lead author of the UNDPs “Human Development Report 2020”. Held in partnership with the Arab Youth Climate Movement Qatar, the UNDP and the Embassy of Sweden in Qatar, the virtual event will share expert views on the said report and how the pandemic has exposed the structural inequalities and challenges communities face across the world.
Sports will have their fair share of the spotlight in February, starting with the Library’s first Sports Day Chess Tournament on February 9. Contestants will have a chance to challenge their friends and family online and stretch those mind muscles.

On February 17, the Library will be taking the National Sports Day celebration to the country level, with experts shedding light on the developments made to cement Qatar’s position as the Asian sports capital for 2030 as part of the “Past and Future Asian Games in Qatar: Creativity Without Limitation” online session.

The months focus on sports is made complete with the February 24 exploratory lecture “Sports from the World to Qatar.” During the event, audience members will not only discover the origins and history of sports around the world, but also learn how they influenced the evolution of sports in Qatar.

Februarys lineup of events also covers a rich variety of topics and areas of interest. These include the February 7 online session Down Syndrome and Healthy Diet, which will coach parents on how to prevent weight gain if their children are suffering from the chromosomal condition, and three-part Public Speaking and Argumentation online workshop starting 8 February, where students will learn what constitutes good public speaking and argumentative skills.

The “Elegant Simplicity in the Age of Excess” is another event expected to draw a diverse group of attendees on February 18. In this online talk, Satish Kumar, a veteran environmentalist, will talk about his journey of living a frugal lifestyle and explore how consumerism drives the pursuit of happiness in much of the world. Hell also address responsible consumption and sustainable development, two topics in his latest book, Elegant Simplicity.

Finally, the month will conclude with a special lecture for manuscript heritage enthusiasts around the world on February 28. In “Marginal Texts and New Prospects in Studying Manuscripts,” Dr. Mostafa El Toubi, Head of the Research Team on Moroccan Manuscript Heritage at the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences at Ibn Zahr University in Morocco, will examine marginalia or apostils in manuscripts to help open up new prospects for many research fields and learn more about people’s habits, behaviors, transactions, beliefs, mindsets, ideas, and money exchanges.

الدوحة: أعلنت مكتبة قطر الوطنية عن إعداد برنامج حافل من الفعاليات خلال شهر فبراير المقبل تتصدرها فعاليات حول مكانة قطر في الرياضة العالمية، بالإضافة إلى جدول حافل من الفعاليات المتنوعة التي تستهدف مختلف فئات المجتمع.

وتركز فعاليات مكتبة قطر الوطنية في شهر فبراير المقبل على العديد من الموضوعات من أبرزها اليوم الرياضي للدولة الذي يوافق الثلاثاء الثاني من شهر فبراير كل عام، وإنجازات قطر في تنظيم البطولات الرياضية، كما تقدم لمختلف فئات المجتمع لا سيما الآباء والمعلمين والباحثين واليافعين، فعاليات تثري معارفهم وتتلاءم مع اهتماماتهم وتزود العقول الواعدة للأطفال والشباب بمهارات حياتية مهمة مثل مخاطبة الجماهير، بالإضافة إلى محاضرات متميزة للمهتمين بالاقتصاد والأعمال والتراث والمخطوطات.

وفي يوم 2 فبراير، يستمع الآباء والباحثون والمعنيون بالتعليم إلى أخصائية النطق إيمان درويش التي تجيب على تساؤلاتهم حول النمو والتطور اللغوي للأطفال الصغار والوقت المناسب لكي ينطقوا كلماتهم الأولى وأسباب تأخر النطق عند بعض الأطفال، وغيرها من الموضوعات المرتبطة بالمراحل الأولى للنمو.

وفي اليوم نفسه، تنظم المكتبة محاضرة بعنوان “الاقتصاد العالمي في 2021: توقعات وحدة الإيكونوميست للمعلومات” تتناول المستجدات والتطورات في مجالات الاقتصاد والسياسة والأعمال حول العالم، وتسلط الضوء على تأثير جائحة فيروس كورونا /كوفيدـ19/ على اقتصاد الدول المختلفة، وتستهدف هذه المحاضرة التي تقدمها أجاثا ديمارايس، مديرة قسم التوقعات العالمية، الباحثين وخبراء الاستراتيجيات الاقتصادية وسائر المهتمين بالأعمال والاقتصاد.

أما يوم 4 فبراير فتنظم المكتبة محاضرة بعنوان “التنمية الإنسانية في عصر ما بعد كوفيد: الطريق للمستقبل” بالتعاون مع حركة الشباب العربي للمناخ وبرنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي والسفارة السويدية في قطر. يقدم المحاضرة أحد المؤلفين الرئيسيين لتقرير برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي “تقرير التنمية الإنسانية 2020″، ويسلط الضوء فيها على التأثير الفادح لجائحة فيروس كورونا العالمية على مؤشرات التنمية وأوجه الإجحاف والمساواة المتجذرة في المجتمعات والتحديات التي تواجهها دول العالم.

وفي 17 فبراير، تحتفي المكتبة بفوز دولة قطر بحق استضافة دورة الألعاب الآسيوية 2030 على أرضها للمرة الثانية وذلك من خلال محاضرة “الألعاب الآسيوية في قطر بين الماضي والمستقبل: الإبداع بلا قيود” التي تسلط الضوء على الإنجازات التي حققتها قطر منذ 2006 لترسيخ مكانتها كإحدى المراكز الدولية للرياضة العالمية.

وتتعاون المكتبة مع الأكاديمية الأولمبية القطرية يوم 24 فبراير في تنظيم محاضرة “الرياضة من العالم إلى قطر” التي تسلط الضوء على أصول الرياضة وتاريخها حول العالم، وبداية الألعاب الرياضية العالمية التي دخلت قطر، وتأثيرها على تطور الرياضة في قطر.

وفي 7 فبراير تقدم محاضرة بعنوان “متلازمة داون والغذاء الصحي” لآباء الأطفال المصابين بمتلازمة داون الإرشادات والنصائح حول عادات الطعام الصحية السليمة وتناقش أهمية التشجيع على اتباع نمط حياة صحي لتفادي البدانة وزيادة الوزن.

وعلى مدار ثلاث جلسات من 8 إلى 10 فبراير، تقدم ورشة فن الخطابة والمحاججة لليافعين من 12 إلى 18 عاما مهارات التحدث أمام الجمهور ومهارة المحاججة والإقناع وإثبات وجهة النظر.

ومن الفعاليات التي تستهدف فئات الجمهور المختلفة محاضرة “أناقة البساطة في عصر الإسراف” في 18 فبراير وتتناول تأثير النزعة الاستهلاكية على السعي نحو السعادة في أغلب دول العالم، وضرورة التحلي بالمسؤولية والترشيد في الاستهلاك وتعزيز التنمية المستدامة.

ويختتم الشهر بمحاضرة “التقاييد المصاحبة وآفاق البحث العلمي في المخطوطات” في 28 فبراير التي تقدم لعشاق التراث والمهتمين بالمخطوطات نبذة وافية عن النصوص الهامشية المصاحبة للمخطوطات على الأغلفة أو على هوامش المتن أو في نهاية الكتاب، وما تقدمه هذه النصوص من مادة جوهرية للنظر في عادات الأقدمين، وسلوكياتهم، ومعاملاتهم، ومعتقداتهم، وأفكارهم، وتبادلاتهم النقدية، وغيرها، يلقي المحاضرة الدكتور مصطفى الطوبي، رئيس فريق البحث في التراث المغربي المخطوط، ورئيس شعبة اللغة العربية، بكلية الآداب والعلوم الإنسانية، جامعة ابن زهر في أكادير بالمغرب.
