Adolf Hitler wins Namibia elections and attracts attention of international press

Doha: There is no doubt that the similarity of names may create strange stories and situations or troubles for the owner, but the matter is different in this story for Adolf Hitler, who did not realize the seriousness of his name until after he became a teenager, as a politician named after Adolf Hitler won a seat in the Namibian elections,

And after he won a seat with the ruling SWAPO party – which has ruled Namibia since its independence from South Africa in 1990 – the politician told the German newspaper Bild that he had nothing to do with the Nazi ideology.

Adolf Hitler Onona won 85% of the vote in the former German colony, which is still home to a small number of German speakers, and some streets, places and people still have German names.

As for the story of the name, he says that his father named him “in the name of this man – Adolf Hitler -. Perhaps he did not know what he represented.” He added, “In my childhood I considered him a completely normal name. I did not understand that this man wanted to conquer the world until after I became a teenager.”. According to the British Daily Mail

Also, the Namibian “Hitler” stated on this occasion that his wife called him by the name of Adolf, adding that he is usually called Adolf Onona, but

it was too late to change his name in the official papers.

“This does not mean that I seek to dominate the world.”

Onona won 1,196 votes in the last elections compared to 213 votes obtained by his rival, which brought him back to his seat in the regional council that he won in 2015.

His name was shortened to Adolf H in the list of candidates written in the Official Gazette, but it appeared in full on the official results website.

Namibia, formerly known as German Southwest Africa, was a German colony until 1884, when its colonies were robbed of the empire after World War I.

الدوحة: لاشك أن تشابه الأسماء قد يخلق قصصا ومواقف غريبة او متاعب لصاحبها ، لكن الامر مختلف في هذه القصة لأدولف هتلر الذي لم يدرك خطورة اسمه إلا بعد أن صار مراهقا ،حيث فاز سياسي سُمي تيمناً بأدولف هتلر بمقعد في الانتخابات الناميبية، 

وبعد أن حصل على مقعد مع حزب سوابو الحاكم -الذي يحكم ناميبيا منذ استقلالها عن جنوب إفريقيا عام 1990- قال السياسي لصحيفة Bild الألمانية إنه لا علاقة له بالأيديولوجية النازية. 

إذ حصد أدولف هتلر أونونا 85% من الأصوات في المستعمرة الألمانية السابقة، التي لا تزال موطناً لعدد صغير من متحدثي الألمانية، ولا تزال بعض الشوارع والأماكن والأشخاص يحملون أسماءً ألمانية. 

أما عن قصة الاسم فيقول أن والده سماه “باسم هذا الرجل- أدولف هتلر-، ربما لم يكن يعرف ما يمثله”، وأضاف قائلاً: “في طفولتي اعتبرتُه اسماً عادياً تماماً. ولم أفهم أن هذا الرجل أراد غزو العالم إلا بعدت أن صرت مراهقاً”. وفقا لديلي ميل البريطانية

كما صرح “هتلر” الناميبي في هذه المناسبة بأن زوجته تناديه باسم أدولف، مضيفاً أنه عادة ما يُدعى بأدولف أونونا، لكن

 الوقت قد تأخر كثيراً على تغيير اسمه في الأوراق الرسمية.

وأضاف: “كوني أحمل هذا الاسم لا يعني أنني أريد غزو أوشانا”، مشيراً إلى المنطقة التي فاز فيها، وتابع: “لا يعني هذا أنني أسعى إلى الهيمنة على العالم”.

وقد فاز أونونا،  بـ1196 صوتاً في الانتخابات الأخيرة مقابل 213 صوتاً حصل عليها منافسه، ما أعاده إلى مقعده في المجلس الإقليمي الذي فاز به عام 2015.

وقد اختُصر اسمه إلى أدولف إتش في قائمة المرشحين المكتوبة في الجريدة الرسمية، لكنه ظهر كاملاً في الموقع الرسمي للنتائج.

وكانت ناميبيا، التي عُرفت في السابق بجنوب غرب إفريقيا الألمانية، مستعمرة ألمانية حتى عام 1884، عندما سُلبت من الإمبراطورية مستعمراتها عقب الحرب العالمية الأولى.
