Doha: Mr. Nasser Al Khater, CEO of the World Cup (Qatar 2022), said that all world cups have received the same criticism as Qatar, noting that the reason Qatar has been criticized is because Qatar is the first Arab country to host the tournament and the 10-year period since it announced its hosting of the World Cup.
In an interview with CNN, al-Khater said that the criticism “strengthens our determination to host an exceptional tournament representing all Arabs and a championship for history,” saying, “We hope that it will be the first tournament in which fans return to stadiums and a World Cup in which the legacy will be positive for Qatar.”
He expressed looking forward for visitors from different countries to come, and that this would be not limited to the Gulf States, but also to neighbouring regions of North Africa and the Levant, Turkey, Iran, India and others.
As for issues related to the customs of peoples incompatible with Islam and Qatar’s customs and traditions, al-Khater stressed that “Qatar is a hospitable country. “We are a country that has our customs and traditions, and just as Qatar will respect the customs and traditions of guests from different countries, we believe that guests and visitors during the World Cup should also respect our customs and traditions in the region.”
