Nasser Al Khater: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Will Be Exceptional Event

Doha: CEO of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Nasser Al Khater said that the upcoming FIFA World Cup will bring the region together and be a moment of pride in the history of the world, looking forward to Qatar’s hosting of exceptional event in the Middle East and Arab world.

There are only 500 days to go until Qatar hosts the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and Arab world.

On this occasion, Al Khater said: “Five-hundred days to go means we’re getting very close,” said Al Khater. “It’s been ten years in the making and this will be the biggest event that’s ever happened in the Middle East. It will bring the region together and be a moment of pride in the history of the world. As we move closer to the tournament, we are sure the excitement is going to build even further.”

He added that Qatar will host the most compact version of the tournament in modern history. All eight stadiums are within 50km of central Doha, while fans, players and officials will be able to stay in one accommodation throughout the event.

Al Khater went on to say he believes the compact tournament footprint is one of Qatar’s unique selling points for fans as they begin planning their trips to the country.

“The compact nature is probably the most positive aspect of this World Cup,” said Al Khater. “For fans, they won’t have to follow their team from city to city, which means there will be a significant cost saving and means they will have time to take in the ambiance and enjoy what Qatar has to offer.”

Involving 16 teams from across the region, the FIFA Arab Cup 2021 will take place exactly a year before Qatar 2022. It will provide a vital opportunity to test infrastructure and operations while giving fans a taste of the region’s passion for the beautiful game.

“It’s an important event for us,” said Al Khater. “It will bring the Arab world together for an important tournament held under the FIFA umbrella for the first time. It’s going to be a great opportunity to see the new stadiums in action and prepare ourselves for Qatar 2022.”

Al Khater also outlined Qatar’s legacy commitments – particularly in relation to stadium developments.

“From the very beginning, legacy has been at the forefront of our minds – with our plans factored in during the very early design phase. Some stadiums will have their capacities reduced, with the seats donated to aid the development of sporting infrastructure in other countries. Some stadiums will be repurposed, while one Ras Abu Aboud will be completely dismantled, with its parts used to create facilities in Qatar and overseas.”

The SC’s Yasir Al Jamal, Vice Chairman, Technical Delivery Office, and Chairman, Operations Office, said Qatar’s FIFA World Cup infrastructure projects had reached 95% completion, with all the stadiums set to be ready by the end of the year.

“Since 2011, we’ve been working hard on the delivery of our tournament and national infrastructure. If we look at the metro, the airport and highways expansion, we’re in a very good place. All the stadiums will be ready by the end of the year, which gives us a whole year to test them before the event.”

Al Jamal continued: “Five of our stadiums have been completed, while the other three will be ready soon. Six of the stadiums will be used for the FIFA Arab Cup 2021, which will take place in November and December.”

The 22nd edition of the tournament will kick off on 21 November 2022, when Qatar – the reigning champions of Asia – take their FIFA World Cup bow at the tournament’s first match at the stunning 60,000-seat Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor City. It will conclude with the final at the 80,000-seat Lusail Stadium on 18 December 2022 – which is also Qatar National Day.

الدوحة: أكد السيد ناصر الخاطر، الرئيس التنفيذي لبطولة كأس العالم لكرة القدم /FIFA قطر 2022/، أن النسخة المقبلة من المونديال ستوحد المنطقة وستكتب في تاريخ العالم بحروف من الفخر، معربا عن تطلعه لاستضافة قطر لبطولة استثنائية عندما تنظم الحدث العام المقبل للمرة الأولى في العالم العربي والشرق الأوسط.

وبمناسبة انطلاق العد التنازلي لآخر 500 يوم قبل البطولة قال الخاطر “لقد أصبحنا على مشارف البطولة، فلم يعد يفصلنا عن انطلاق صافرة بدايتها سوى 500 يوم.. فمنذ أكثر من 10 سنوات ونحن نستعد لهذه اللحظة التي ستشهد تنظيم أكبر بطولة رياضية على الإطلاق في تاريخ الشرق الأوسط.. وكلما اقتربنا من هذه اللحظة ازداد الحماس والإثارة”، مشيرا إلى أن النسخة المقبلة من المونديال هي الأكثر تقاربا في المسافات في التاريخ الحديث لهذه المسابقة، إذ لا تبعد جميع الاستادات الثمانية عن وسط مدينة الدوحة أكثر من 50 كلم ، ما يعني توفر أوقات قصيرة للجماهير للتنقل عبر مترو الدوحة أو عبر شبكة الطرق الحديثة.

وأوضح أن هذه الميزة ستمنح الجماهير وكذلك اللاعبين والإداريين، إمكانية الإقامة في مكان واحد طوال منافسات البطولة، ما سيجعل المونديال المقبل بمثابة مهرجان كروي لم يسبق له مثيل في النسخ السابقة، وذلك بفضل قرب مكان الاستادات ومناطق المشجعين ومعالم الجذب السياحي في البلاد، وهو ما سيضمن للجميع التواجد في قلب الحدث من البداية وحتى النهاية.

وبين الرئيس التنفيذي لبطولة كأس العالم المقبلة أن “تقارب المسافات يعد من أهم مزايا النسخة المقبلة من كأس العالم /FIFA قطر 2022/، حيث ستوفر هذه الميزة للجماهير عناء السفر من مدينة إلى أخرى لمؤازرة منتخباتها، كما ستقلل التكلفة بقدر كبير، وستتيح لهم وقتا كافيا للتأقلم مع الأجواء والاستمتاع بكل ما ستقدمه لهم قطر من فرص لاستكشاف البلاد والتمتع بمنشأتها”.

وحول أهمية استضافة قطر لبطولة كأس العرب /FIFA قطر 2021/ نهاية العام الجاري، قال الخاطر “كأس العرب بطولة مهمة بالنسبة لنا، حيث ستجمع المنتخبات العربية لأول مرة تحت مظلة الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم /الفيفا/، وستمنحنا فرصة رائعة لتجربة الاستادات الجديدة والاستعداد لكأس العالم العام المقبل”.

وبخصوص الإرث الذي ستتركه البطولة لاسيما المتعلق بالاستادات، لفت السيد ناصر الخاطر إلى أنه “منذ بداية الاستعدادات لكأس العالم لكرة القدم /FIFA قطر 2022/، والإرث في مقدمة اهتماماتنا، فقد وضعنا هذا الأمر في مرحلة التصميم المبكر للاستادات، حيث سيجري خفض سعة بعض الاستادات والتبرع بمقاعدها لدول أخرى لمساعدتها في تطوير بنيتها التحتية، وبعضها سيجرى إعادة استخدامه لأغراض أخرى، والبعض الآخر سيفكك بالكامل على أن تستخدم أجزاؤه في إنشاء مرافق داخل قطر وخارجها”.

من جانبه، أكد المهندس ياسر الجمال، رئيس مكتب العمليات ونائب رئيس المكتب الفني للمشاريع في اللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث، أن قطر أنجزت 95% من مشاريع البنية التحتية للمونديال، وتستعد للإعلان عن اكتمال جميع استادات البطولة بنهاية العام الجاري، مضيفا “نبذل قصارى جهدنا منذ 2011 في تنفيذ البنية التحتية اللازمة والإعداد الجيد لتنظيم البطولة، ولو نظرنا إلى المترو العصري والمطار وأعمال التوسعة للطرق السريعة وغيرها من مشاريع البنية التحتية المتطورة لأدركنا أننا على الطرق الصحيح”.

وبشأن تقدم العمل في استادات المونديال أفاد الجمال بأن “العمل اكتمل في خمسة استادات، على أن يتم الإعلان على جاهزية الاستادات الثلاثة المتبقية قريبا، على أن تستضيف ستة استادات مونديالية منافسات كأس العرب /FIFA قطر 2021 / خلال شهري نوفمبر وديسمبر المقبلين”.

وستنطلق بطولة كأس العرب /FIFA قطر 2021 / قبل نحو عام واحد من موعد منافسات مونديال 2022 بمشاركة 16 منتخبا عربيا، وستتيح البطولة فرصة مثالية لاختبار التجهيزات والعمليات التشغيلية لبطولة كأس العالم لكرة القدم، وتسليط الضوء على الشغف الكبير لشعوب المنطقة بهذه الرياضة.

يشار إلى أن منافسات النسخة الثانية والعشرين من مونديال كرة القدم بدولة قطر ستنطلق يوم 21 نوفمبر 2022، حيث سيلعب المنتخب القطري، بطل آسيا، مباراة الافتتاح على استاد البيت بتصميمه المذهل الذي يتسع لـ 60 ألف مشجع بمدينة الخور إلى الشمال من العاصمة الدوحة، وسيسدل الستار على المونديال في استاد لوسيل بحضور 80 ألف مشجع يوم 18 ديسمبر 2022، تزامنا مع احتفالات قطر بيومها الوطني.
