QRCS Backs Community Health in Yemen

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has recently launched a new project to support 10 primary health care and malnutrition treatment centers in Yemen, lasting until year end, the USD 988,000 project covers the governorates of Taiz, Sanaa, and Dhale.

During the inauguration ceremony in 26 September Maternity and Childhood Center, General Director of the Health and Population Office in Taiz Dr. Rajih Abdul-Wahid Al Maleeki emphasized the importance of the project for serving low-income people, amid economic challenges in Taiz and the country in general.

Dr. Al Maleeki thanked QRCS for its previous and current donations, including medical equipment, consumables, and medications. “This project shows how QRCS is always concerned with effective and successful projects,” he said.

The center’s director Dr. Hmoud Al Shami revealed a jump in the number of visitors since the return of QRCS. “The staff are active again, and QRCS is supporting the center to back community health,” said Dr. Al Shami. “It is important to promote COVID-19 awareness and advising activities for different segments of society”.

The projects supervisor at QRCSs mission in Yemen Dr. Azya Rawah gave a presentation on the activities and interventions to be done. She expected the results to be better than the last time.

In Dhale, Dr. Mothana Said, Director of the Health Office in Qa’tabah District, commented on the launch of the project: “This health project will help the Al-Salam Hospital in Qa’tabah District and the Al-Shohadaa Hospital in Al-Shu’ayb District. It supports the departments of general emergency with medications, medical solutions, logistics, and staff remunerations”.

He commended the generous contributions by QRCS to the health sector: “In 2018/2019, QRCS rehabilitated, furnished, and operated six health centers in Qa’tabah alone. We welcome such effective health projects, which have a positive and long-term effect on treatment of patients and rehabilitation of health facilities, thus ensuring integrated health services”.

Ahmed Al-Moqanza, the projects manager, talked about the positive outcomes of these services, as reflected in more visitors of centers. “The project pays for the remunerations of medical and administrative staff; recruits the required staff; secures supportive services such as water supply, power supply, and maintenance; and procures medical equipment and basic medications for the poor. It is estimated to serve up to 250,000 patients, in addition to 30,000 beneficiaries of health education,” he said.

The United Nations Global Humanitarian Overview 2019 shows that only 51% of health facilities in Yemen are fully functional, which means very limited access to health care. According to the report, in famine mortality is associated with immune deficiency diseases. So, many malnourished children, mothers, and patients in famine zones may have no access to health care.

To QRCS, it is a top priority to meet the fundamental needs of hospitals and health centers. The above project is aimed at building the resilience of Yemeni community in the face of the current crisis, by providing primary health care services, eradicating malnutrition, maintaining premises and equipment, and promoting health awareness.

الدوحة: أعلن الهلال الأحمر القطري اليوم إنه اطلق مؤخرا مشروعا لدعم 10 مراكز رعاية صحية أولية وعلاج سوء التغذية في محافظات /تعز وصنعاء والضالع/ في اليمن بتكلفة قدرها988,000 دولار أمريكي، وسيستمر تنفيذ المشروع حتى نهاية العام الجاري.

وخلال حفل التدشين في مركز 26 سبتمبر للأمومة والطفولة، أكد الدكتور راجح عبد الواحد المليكي، مدير عام مكتب الصحة والسكان في محافظة تعز على أهمية المشروع الذي يخدم شريحة من ذوي الدخل المحدود، في ظل الأوضاع الاقتصادية التي يمر بها اليمن بشكل عام ومحافظة تعز بشكل خاص.

وتقدم المليكي بالشكر للهلال الأحمر القطري على دعمه المتواصل والسخي، من خلال توفير المطلوب من الأجهزة والمستلزمات الطبية والأدوية لخدمة المجتمع، مضيفاً أن هذا المشروع يدل على مدى اهتمام الهلال الأحمر القطري الدائم باختيار المشاريع الفعالة والناجحة.

ومن جانبه، كشف الدكتور حمود الشامي مدير المركز، عن ارتفاع معدل مراجعي المركز منذ استشعارهم بعودة الهلال الأحمر القطري، الذي جدد نشاط العاملين وقدم خدماته للمركز كمعين وداعم للصحة المجتمعية.. وشدد على ضرورة تفعيل أنشطة التوعية والإرشاد بخصوص جائحة فيروس كورونا لجميع شرائح المجتمع.

وبدورها ، قدمت الدكتورة عزية راوح، مشرفة المشروع ببعثة الهلال الأحمر القطري، شرحاً مفصلاً حول الأنشطة والتدخلات التي يتضمنها المشروع، متوقعةً أن تكون النتائج المنتظرة أفضل مما سبق.

وفي محافظة الضالع وعلى هامش إطلاق أعمال المشروع، أشاد الدكتور مثنى سعيد، مدير مكتب الصحة بمديرية /قعطبة/ بالدعم السخي الذي يقدمه الهلال الأحمر القطري للقطاع الصحي، وقال: “خلال عام 2018/2019، قام الهلال الأحمر القطري مشكوراً بإعادة تأهيل وتجهيز وتشغيل 6 مراكز صحية في مديرية قعطبة وحدها. ونحن نرحب بهذه المشاريع الصحية المتميزة، التي لها أثر إيجابي مباشر وبعيد المدى في علاج المرضى وتأهيل المرافق الصحية، من أجل تقديم خدمات صحية متكاملة”.

كما تحدث السيد أحمد المقنزع مدير المشروع عن المردود الإيجابي لهذا الدعم من الناحية الخدمية، وهو ما يتضح من زيادة نسبة إقبال المرضى على المراكز. وأضاف: “المشروع يوفر حافزاً للكادر الطبي والإداري، وتقديم الخدمات المساندة مثل المياه والديزل والصيانة، وتوريد بعض الأدوات والأجهزة الطبية الضرورية، وكذلك الأدوية الأساسية للفئات الفقيرة. ومن المتوقع أن يخدم المشروع 250,000 مريض، إلى جانب حوالي 30,000 شخص من أفراد المجتمع المستهدفين بالتوعية الصحية”.

يذكر أن تقرير وثيقة الاحتياجات الإنسانية للأمم المتحدة لعام 2019 يشير إلى أن 51 بالمئة فقط من المرافق الصحية في اليمن تعمل بكامل طاقتها، وبالتالي فإن فرص الحصول على الرعاية الصحية محدودة للغاية. وأوضح التقرير أن الوفيات في حالات المجاعة تكون ناتجة عن الأمراض المرتبطة بضعف المناعة في الجسم، وبالتالي فإن كثيراً من الأطفال والأمهات والمرضى المصابين بسوء التغذية في المناطق المعرضة للمجاعة قد لا يتمكنون من الوصول إلى الرعاية الصحية.

ولهذا يحرص الهلال الأحمر القطري دوماً على وضع قطاع الصحة على رأس سلم أولوياته، ورفد المراكز والمستشفيات بأهم الاحتياجات الأساسية. ويأتي مشروع دعم 10 مراكز صحية ليساهم في رفع قدرات المجتمع اليمني على الصمود أمام الأزمة الحالية، عبر توفير خدمات الرعاية الصحية الأولية، ومكافحة سوء التغذية، وصيانة المباني والتجهيزات، ونشر الوعي الصحي.
