Global economy’s potential losses estimated at $4 trillion as tourism collapses due to Corona

The collapse of international tourism due to the Corona pandemic could result in the global economy losing more than $4 trillion in 2020 and 2021, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
“Globally, the Corona pandemic strike on international tourism has resulted in a loss of GDP of more than $4,000 billion for 2020 and 2021 alone,” the agency said in a report submitted jointly with the United Nations World Tourism Organization( WTO), according to Russia Today.
Losses in international tourism and associated sectors are estimated at $2.4 trillion in 2020 due to the direct and indirect effects of the sharp decline in the number of international tourists.
“A loss of the same value could be recorded this year, and the recovery of tourism will be largely linked to the intensive distribution of ANTI-COV vaccines in the world,” the report noted, adding that tourism losses are greater in developing countries.
“The world needs global vaccination efforts to protect workers, mitigate social damage, and make strategic tourism decisions taking into account potential structural changes,” said UNCTAD Secretary-General Isabel Durant.
أفاد مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة للتجارة والتنمية (أونكتاد) بأن انهيار السياحة الدولية بسبب جائحة كورونا قد يؤدي إلى خسارة الاقتصاد العالمي أكثر من 4 تريليونات دولار خلال عامي 2020 و2021.
وفي تقرير الذي قدمته هذه الوكالة بالاشتراك مع منظمة السياحة العالمية التابعة للأمم المتحدة، تم الإشارة إلى أنه “على المستوى العالمي، أدت ضربة جائحة كورونا للسياحة الدولية إلى خسارة في إجمالي الناتج المحلي تتجاوز الأربعة آلاف مليار دولار لعامي 2020 و2021 فقط”، وفقاً لموقع روسيا اليوم.
وتقدر الخسائر في السياحة الدولية والقطاعات المرتبطة بها بنحو 2.4 تريليون دولار في 2020 بسبب الآثار المباشرة وغير المباشرة للانخفاض الحاد في عدد السياح الدوليين.
وأشار التقرير إلى أن “خسارة بالقيمة نفسها يمكن أن تسجل هذا العام، وأن انتعاش السياحة سيكون مرتبطا إلى حد كبير بالتوزيع المكثف للقاحات المضادة لفيروس كورونا في العالم”، موضحا أن أن الخسائر السياحية أكبر في البلدان النامية.
من جانبها قالت الأمينة العامة لـ”أونكتاد”، يزابيل دورانت: “العالم يحتاج إلى جهود عالمية للتطعيم تسمح بحماية العاملين وتخفيف الأضرار الاجتماعية، واتخاذ قرارات استراتيجية تتعلق بالسياحة مع أخذ التغييرات الهيكلية المحتملة في الاعتبار”.
