The UK’s financial markets regulator has banned the operation of the world’s largest digital exchange within Britain, in the latest episode of the growing campaign against the crypto-asset market around the world.
The British Financial Conduct Authority said that “Binance Markets Limited”, which is the British unit of “Binance”, is not allowed to conduct any regulated activity in the United Kingdom, CNBC reported.
As of Wednesday, the company – which already provides British cryptocurrency trading services via its website – must add notice prominently on its website and applications, and this notice must show UK users that “the company is not allowed to carry out any regulated activity in the UK due to the imposition of requirements by the Conduct Authority and is currently not allowed to carry out any regulated activities without the prior written consent of the Authority.
Binance is the world’s largest digital currency exchange in terms of trading volume and was planning to launch its digital asset market in Britain, yet it was one of many encryption companies that dropped its application to register with the Financial Conduct Authority because it did not meet anti-money laundering requirements.
