Minister Inaugurates Pilot Operation of Electric Bus Charging Station at Karwa

Doha: HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim bin Saif AlSulaiti, inaugurated the pilot operation of Mowasalat (Karwa)s electric bus charging station.

The inauguration comes with the arrival of the first batch of eco-friendly and quiet buses, which will be used by Mowasalat (Karwa) within its transport system. It complements the electric vehicles strategy prepared by the Ministry of Transport and Communications in collaboration with the concerned authorities.

The inauguration aims to support the State’s progress towards a green future. Achieving economic and environmental balance ensures the sustainability of transportation infrastructure projects, as well as the development of transportation through the use of alternative and clean energy in accordance with the latest global eco-friendly systems to reduce harmful carbon emissions, providing a clean, healthy and safe environment for future generations.

These developments come as Mowasalat (Karwa), under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport and Communication, leads the way for the roll-out of electric infrastructure to cater to the public fleet requirements and the expected rise in electric vehicle demand.

On this occasion, HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, said that the test operation of the Mowasalat (Karwa) electric bus charging station represents an important step on implementing the Electric Vehicle Strategy MOTC had developed in cooperation with the bodies concerned, and which is a key part of Qatars public transportation plan 2030, adding that todays launch coincides with the arrival in Doha of the first batch of electric buses that will be serving the public transit plans for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, thus supporting the hosting of an exceptional, ecofriendly, carbon-neutral championship.

HE the Minister said that the Public Bus Infrastructure Program that MOTC is currently developing in cooperation with Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is making significant strides with relation to bus warehouses and stations, in addition to finalizing the construction works of the Park and Ride parking spaces; of which two have been inaugurated in Al-Qassar and Al Wakra while the other two, in Lusail and Education City, are to open for public soon.

His Excellency noted that Program aims to achieve integration with public transit systems countrywide and support transportation operations during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and beyond, let alone increasing public transit ridership over the few coming years by offering high-quality service and facilities with world best technologies and specifications that represent the identity of public transit sector of Qatar.

He stated that the Program reflects MOTCs attention to implementing the strategy of switching to clean energy in transportation to reduce carbon emissions of conventional vehicles and improve overall air and climate quality in Qatar, explaining that among key strategy objectives is supporting transit operations during FIFA 2022 to make Qatar second-to-none worldwide in using electric, eco-friendly vehicles during a FIFA championship, alongside the integration with other public transit systems. 

For his part, HE Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy Hassan Al Thawadi stressed the importance of inaugurating the electric bus charging station, congratulating the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Mowasalat (Karwa) on achieving this milestone within Qatars commitment to use clean energy, hosting a carbon neutral edition of the World Cup 2022, and to contribute towards the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

“The commitment to organize a carbon-free tournament was one of the main pillars of Qatars bid to host the World Cup 2022, and this goal remains our top priority in the tournament operations. Mowasalat (Karwa) will help us achieve this vision by contributing to the organization of the tournament through transporting fans across the State during competitions, including the World Cup stadiums, fan zones, and tourist sightseeing throughout Qatar, while sustaining the environment by relying on clean energy sources,” HE Al Thawadi added.

In a related context, HE President of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and Chairman of Mowasalat (Karwa) Dr. Eng. Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi said that Ashghal has built various electrical charging points inside and outside Doha, providing all electrical utilities and necessary infrastructure to connect chargers with transformers and various power stations.

He noted the largest electric charging station of the region being constructed in Lusail City operates on solar energy and it is connected with all stations. High-efficiency solar cell shades will be built as the source of solar energy, one important source of renewable energy that provides clean energy.

HE the President of Ashghal asserted that Ashghal has provided necessary infrastructure for charging of electric buses and installed different types of charging devices including double gun chargers and single chargers to facilitate charging buses from either sides, as well as pantographs to charge from topside, with provision of special chambers for feeder transformers, adding that the project is executed by a local firm as part of the States endeavor to support the local private sector.

On his part, HE President of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari said: “Today we are pleased to inaugurate a new electric bus charging station as part of the State’s strategy to deploy and promote electric vehicles and their infrastructure. This is part of a major tender that Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has contributed to its preparation and providing the necessary technical support to the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Public Works Authority with regard to the required specifications for the stations and the necessary electrical load and all approved connections.”

He noted that Kahramaa also provided the necessary specifications for the solar panels, which will be implemented at Lusail electric bus station.

“We have previously collaborated with the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Mowasalat (Karwa) to launch two electric bus charging stations, one with fast charging and the other overnight charging, as active models for operating the first two electric buses in Qatar in 2019. We are now working together to complete the infrastructure of Qatar’s electric charging station network by implementing 100 charging stations by the end of 2021 and another 100 in 2022 in vital and public places in the State,” he added.

In a related context, Mowasalat (Karwa) CEO Fahad bin Saad Al Qahtani said: “We have today reached a milestone in our efforts to assist with Qatars 2030 vision of a sustainable public transport network. We are proud to take part in this endeavor that has been planned carefully over the past years to ensure reliable, emission-free journeys for our customers. Our close collaboration with Ashghal ensures a comprehensive coverage of charging stations all over the State, which sets new standards in public transportation worldwide.”

“In parallel to the implementation of the latest smart fleet technology, we have also thoroughly trained our team of drivers, engineers, data analysts, and maintenance staff to create a seamlessly efficient travel experience for our passengers,” Al Qahtani added.

The new electrical bus fleet will first be used at major international events during this year and next year, and from 2023 for public and school transport as well as corporate transport contracts. Plans are in place for Mowasalat (Karwa) to also replace the conventional “Karwa Taxis” with electric vehicles in the future, but this project is still in its infancy.

The electric buses are fully customized to handle the demands of street and weather conditions in Qatar and are equipped with a 350 kWh Lithium-ion battery, the latest and safest proven battery technology in the automotive industry, with an average reach of more than 200km per full charge. Strict compliance with the most comprehensive safety standards and a local inspection process ensure that the technical and operational aspects are following all of Qatars regulations.

Mowasalat (Karwa) invests heavily to reduce carbon emissions from its conventional fleet, improving the quality of Qatar’s climate and supporting Qatars transition away from a hydrocarbon-based economy towards a greener future.

The inauguration ceremony of the pilot operation of Mowasalat (Karwa)s electric bus charging station was attended by HE Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the State of Qatar Zhou Jian, and a number of officials and representatives of private sector companies.

ويأتي هذا التدشين ليواكب وصول أول دفعة من الحافلات الكهربائية الصديقة للبيئة ذات المحركات الهادئة، التي ستستخدمها شركة مواصلات /كروه/ ضمن منظومة النقل لديها، ويستكمل تطبيق استراتيجية المركبات الكهربائية التي أعدتها وزارة المواصلات والاتصالات بالتعاون مع الجهات المعنية.

ويهدف التدشين إلى دعم مسيرة الدولة في خطواتها نحو مستقبل أخضر، وتحقيق التوازن الاقتصادي والبيئي لضمان استدامة مشاريع البنية التحتية لقطاع المواصلات، فضلاً عن تطوير وسائل النقل عبر توظيف الطاقة البديلة والنظيفة وفق أحدث الأنظمة العالمية الصديقة للبيئة للحد من الانبعاثات الكربونية الضارة مما يوفر بيئة نظيفة وصحية وآمنة للأجيال القادمة.

كما تتزامن هذه التطورات في شركة مواصلات /كروه/ مع الدور الذي تقوم به الشركة تحت إشراف وزارة المواصلات والاتصالات لبدء تشغيل المرافق اللازمة للمركبات الكهربائية لخدمة أسطول النقل العام وتلبية متطلبات الزيادة المتوقعة في الطلب على المركبات الكهربائية.

وبهذه المناسبة، قال سعادة السيد جاسم بن سيف السليطي، إن التدشين التجريبي لمحطة شحن الحافلات الكهربائية التابعة لشركة مواصلات /كروه/، يعد من الخطوات المهمة في تطبيق استراتيجية المركبات الكهربائية المعدة من قبل الوزارة بالتعاون مع الجهات المعنية، والتي تعد جزءًا رئيسياً لخطة النقل العام للدولة 2030، موضحا أن هذا التدشين يتزامن أيضا مع وصول أول دفعة من الحافلات الكهربائية إلى الدولة، والتي ستخدم خطط النقل العام لبطولة كأس العالم 2022، بما يدعم التوجه نحو استضافة بطولة كأس عالم استثنائية صديقة للبيئة ومحايدة الكربون.

وأضاف سعادته أن برنامج البنية التحتية لحافلات النقل العام، والذي تقوم الوزارة بتطويره حالياً بالتعاون مع هيئة الأشغال العامة /أشغال/، قطع خطوات متقدمة في الإنجاز فيما يخص مستودعات الحافلات، ومحطاتها، بالإضافة إلى إنهاء الأعمال الإنشائية بالكامل لمواقف /اركن وتنقل/، حيث تم افتتاح موقعين في القصار والوكرة، وقريبا سيتم افتتاح موقعي لوسيل والمدينة التعليمية أمام الجمهور.

وبين سعادته أن برنامج البنية التحتية لحافلات النقل العام يهدف حين اكتماله إلى تحقيق التكامل مع أنظمة النقل العام المختلفة، بالإضافة إلى دعم عمليات النقل الخاصة ببطولة كأس العالم 2022 وما بعد البطولة، فضلا عن زيادة عدد المستخدمين لوسائل النقل العام خلال السنوات القليلة المقبلة، وذلك من خلال تقديم وسائل ومرافق تتميز بالجودة والنوعية طبقاً لأعلى المواصفات والتكنولوجيا المستخدمة عالميا والتي تعبر عن هوية قطاع النقل العام في دولة قطر.

وأوضح سعادة وزير المواصلات والاتصالات، أن هذا البرنامج يأتي حرصا من الوزارة على تنفيذ استراتيجية التحول إلى الطاقة النظيفة في قطاع المواصلات وتقليل الانبعاثات الكربونية الصادرة عن المركبات التقليدية وتحسين جودة المناخ العام في دولة قطر، مبينا أن أحد أهم أهداف هذه الاستراتيجية يتمثل في دعم عمليات النقل خلال بطولة كأس العالم 2022، لتكون دولة قطر الأولى عالميا في استضافة بطولة كأس العالم باستخدام المركبات الكهربائية الصديقة للبيئة بجانب التكامل مع أنظمة النقل العام المختلفة.

من جانبه، أكد سعادة السيد حسن الذوادي الأمين العام للجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث، أهمية تدشين محطة شحن الحافلات الكهربائية، مقدماً تهنئته لوزارة المواصلات والاتصالات، وشركة مواصلات /كروه/ على تحقيق هذا الإنجاز الهام ضمن التزام قطر باستخدام الطاقة النظيفة، واستضافة نسخة محايدة الكربون من بطولة كأس العالم في العام 2022، والإسهام في تحقيق أهداف رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030.

وأضاف أن الالتزام بتنظيم بطولة دون انبعاثات كربونية يشكل إحدى الركائز الأساسية لملف قطر لاستضافة مونديال 2022، ويبقى هذا الهدف على رأس أولوياتنا في العمليات التشغيلية للبطولة، ولا شك أن مواصلات /كروه/ ستساعدنا في تحقيق هذه الرؤية من خلال الإسهام في تنظيم البطولة عبر نقل المشجعين في أنحاء الدولة خلال المنافسات، بما في ذلك استادات المونديال، ومناطق المشجعين، والمعالم السياحية في كافة أرجاء البلاد، مع الحفاظ على البيئة عبر الاعتماد على مصادر الطاقة النظيفة.

وفي سياق متصل، قال سعادة الدكتور المهندس سعد بن أحمد المهندي رئيس هيئة الأشغال العامة /أشغال/ ورئيس مجلس إدارة شركة مواصلات /كروه/، إن /أشغال/ قامت بإنشاء نقاط الشحن الكهربية المختلفة داخل الدوحة وخارجها وتوفير كافة التمديدات الكهربائية والبنية التحتية اللازمة لربط أجهزة الشحن بالمحولات الكهربية ومحطات الكهرباء المختلفة، مشيراً إلى أنها قامت كذلك بإنشاء أكبر محطة في المنطقة للشحن الكهربائي في مدينة لوسيل تعمل على الطاقة الشمسية ومرتبطة مع كافة المحطات، حيث سيتم إنشاء مظلات خلايا شمسية عالية الكفاءة تعتمد على مصدر الطاقة الشمسية التي تعد أحد أوجه الطاقة المتجددة الموفرة للطاقة النظيفة.

وأكد أن أشغال قامت بتوفير البنية التحتية اللازمة لشحن الحافلات الكهربائية وتركيب أنواع مختلفة من أجهزة الشحن لتشمل أجهزة شحن زوجية وفردية لشحن الحافلات من الأجناب، بالإضافة إلى توفير أجهزة لشحن الحافلات من أعلى مع بناء غرف خاصة بالمحولات المغذية لهذه الأجهزة وتوفير التمديدات الكهربية بطول نحو 100 كيلومتر، مضيفاً أن الشركة المنفذة للمشروع هي شركة وطنية وذلك في إطار سعي الدولة لدعم القطاع الخاص المحلي.

من جانبه، قال سعادة المهندس عيسى بن هلال الكواري رئيس المؤسسة العامة القطرية للكهرباء والماء /كهرماء/، إنه تم اليوم تدشين محطة شحن جديدة للحافلات الكهربائية ضمن استراتيجية الدولة لنشر وتشجيع المركبات الكهربائية وبنيتها التحتية، والتي تأتي ضمن مناقصة كبرى ساهمت /كهرماء/ في إعدادها وتقديم الدعم الفني اللازم لوزارة المواصلات والاتصالات وهيئة الأشغال العامة فيما يتعلق بالمواصفات المطلوبة للمحطات والحمل الكهربائي اللازم وكافة التوصيلات المعتمدة.

وأشار إلى أن /كهرماء/ قدمت المواصفات اللازمة للألواح الشمسية والتي سوف يتم تنفيذها في محطة لوسيل للحافلات الكهربائية، لافتا إلى التعاون بين /كهرماء/ ووزارة المواصلات والاتصالات وشركة مواصلات لتدشين وحدتي شحن للحافلات الكهربائية، إحداهما للشحن السريع والأخرى للشحن الليلي كنماذج فاعلة لتشغيل أول حافلتين كهربائيتين بدولة قطر والذي تم في عام 2019، حيث تعمل هذه الجهات الثلاث معا الآن على استكمال أعمال البنية التحتية لشبكة محطات الشحن الكهربائي للسيارات بدولة قطر من خلال تنفيذ 100 محطة شحن بنهاية عام 2021 و100 أخرى خلال العام 2022 بأماكن حيوية وعامة بالدولة.

وفي سياق متصل قال السيد فهد بن سعد القحطاني الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة مواصلات /كروه/، “اليوم نشهد محطة هامة في إطار السعي لتحقيق رؤية قطر 2030 نحو شبكة النقل المستدامة، ونفتخر بمشاركتنا في هذا السعي الذي تم التخطيط له خلال السنوات الماضية لضمان توفير سبل نقل عالية الكفاءة وخالية من الانبعاثات الكربونية لعملائنا. وأثمر تعاوننا الوثيق مع هيئة الأشغال العامة توفير محطات الشحن في جميع أنحاء الدولة، بما يشكل معايير جديدة للنقل العام على المستوى الدولي”.

وأضاف أنه “تم تجهيز هذه الحافلات بأحدث التقنيات الذكية لإدارة الأسطول، وقمنا بتقديم تدريبات شاملة عالية الجودة لفريقنا من السائقين والمهندسين ومحللي البيانات ومتخصصي الصيانة لتوفير تجربة تنقل فعالة ومريحة لجميع المستخدمين”.

وستبدأ شركة مواصلات /كروه/ في استخدام أسطول الحافلات الكهربائية الجديد في الأحداث الكبرى والعالمية المقبلة خلال هذا العام والعام القادم، وبدءًا من العام 2023 سيتم استخدام هذه الحافلات ضمن شبكة النقل العام وخدمات النقل المدرسي، فضلاً عن خدمات تعاقدات نقل الشركات والهيئات. كما تخطط الشركة لاستبدال سيارات /تاكسي كروه/ العادية بسيارات كهربائية، والمشروع قيد الإنشاء وفي مراحله الأولى.

وتم تعديل هذه الحافلات الكهربائية كلياً لتتناسب مع طبيعة الطقس والطرق في دولة قطر، وتم تزويدها ببطاريات “ليثيوم-أيون بسعة 350 كيلو وات / ساعة” التي تعد أحدث البطاريات والأكثر سلامة في مجال صناعة المركبات، التي يمكنها السير لأكثر من 200 كيلو متر بشحنة واحدة.

وتتوافق هذه الحافلات مع أعلى معايير السلامة، وتخضع لعملية فحص محلي للتأكد من توافق الجانب التقني والتشغيلي مع جميع اللوائح القطرية.

وتستثمر شركة مواصلات /كروه/ بشكل كبير في العمل على تقليل الانبعاثات الكربونية الصادرة عن المركبات التقليدية، وتحسين جودة المناخ العام في دولة قطر، ودعم انتقال دولة قطر بعيدا عن الاقتصاد القائم على الهيدروكربونات لخلق بيئة نظيفة وصحية لأجيال المستقبل.

يذكر أن حفل تدشين التشغيل التجريبي لمحطة شركة مواصلات /كروه/ لشحن الحافلات الكهربائية، تم بحضور سعادة السيد تشو جيان سفير جمهورية الصين الشعبية لدى الدولة، وعدد من المسؤولين وممثلي شركات القطاع الخاص.
