Dr. Ali Fatoum: Myocarditis due to Pfizer and Moderna is rare

Doha: Professor Ali Fatoum, a specialist in vaccines, medicines and microbes, professor at the University of Michigan and a researcher in bacterial and viral vaccines, said that the phenomenon of myocarditis or pericarditis has so far been estimated at 1,800 cases of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, including 400 cases in the 16-28 age group.
He pointed out that this phenomenon is rare and there is no scientific basis to know the cause, and this issue is still ongoing and there is no evidence that the vaccines directly caused this inflammation so far.
Professor Fatoum added in an interview with the program “Social Distance” on Qatar TV – that a myocarditis patient must deal with doctors directly and in case of feeling shortness of breath or rapid heartbeats after taking the vaccine,we advise the patient to go to a cardiologist and receive the treatment, this phenomenon has not caused any deaths, and we note that those who have contracted this infection have received appropriate treatment, and overcame the risk and returned to normal life.

Recent studies say that mRNA technology used in the manufacture of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines produces more antibodies against Covid-19 than other vaccines, Professor Fatoum said.

He added: I think there is no need to give a stimulating shot of the vaccine (the third dose) as there are no signs of low immunity.

Professor Ali Fatoum stressed that the risk of infection with the virus is much more dangerous than the risk of the vaccine (close to zero), saying: I am talking about cases of infection with the virus and its symptoms and long-term risks from a neurological and physical point of view.

الدوحة: قال البروفيسور علي فطوم، أخصائي في علم اللقاحات والأدوية والميكروبات، أستاذ في جامعة ميشغن وباحث في علم الأمصال البكتيرية والفيروسية، إن ظاهرة التهاب عضلة القلب أو جدار القلب، قدرت حتى الآن بـ 1800 حالة حصلوا على لقاحي فايزر وموديرنا، وبينها 400 حالة في الفئة العمرية ما بين (16 – 28 عاماً)، مشيراً إلى أن هذه الظاهرة نادرة وليس هناك أساس علمي لمعرفة سببها، وهذه القضية مازالت مفتوحة وليس هناك دليل على تسبب اللقاحين مباشرة في حدوث هذا الالتهاب حتى الآن .
وأضاف البروفيسور فطوم – في مقابلة مع برنامج “المسافة الاجتماعية” على تليفزيون قطر– إن هذه الظاهرة (التهاب عضلة القلب) نتعامل بشأنها مع الأطباء مباشرة وننصح في حال الشعور بضيق النفس أو سرعة دقات القلب بعد أخذ اللقاح أن تذهب لطبيب قلب وتأخذ العلاج، ولم تتسبب هذه الظاهرة في أي حالة وفاة، وما نلاحظه أن من أصيبوا بهذا الالتهاب حصلوا على العلاج المناسب وتخطوا حالة الخطر وعادوا لحياتهم العادية.
أفضل لقاحين
وقال البروفيسور فطوم إن الدراسات الحديثة تقول إن تقنية MRna المستخدمة في صناعة لقاحي فايزر وموديرنا تنتج أجساماً مضادة ضد فيروس كورونا بشكل أكبر من اللقاحات الأخرى.
وحول مدة مناعة اللقاحين فايزر وموديرنا، قال البروفيسور فطوم إن اللقاح نفسه يتلاشى من الجسم من 5 – 10 أيام، أما ردة الفعل أو الاستجابة المناعية هي التي لها ديمومة أكبر، وما نعرفه حتى الآن بالنسبة لفايزر وموديرنا تمتد الحماية حتى سنة وبعد سنة هناك نسبة عالية من الأجسام المضادة، ولا يوجد إصابات للمطعمين التي حصلوا على لقاحي فايزر وموديرنا بعد مرور 10 أشهر، موضحاً أن المناعة لمن حصلوا على لقاحي فايزر وموديرنا تمتد على الاقل لمدة سنة وبعدها نرى أن كانت ستستمر لفترة أخرى، وبعض الدراسات تؤكد أنها طويلة الأمد.
أضاف: أعتقد أنه لا حاجاة ضرورية لإعطاء حقنة تحفيزية من اللقاح (الجرعة الثالثة) فلا يوجد بوادر لانخفاض نسبة المناعة .
موائمة المخاطر
وأكد البروفيسور علي فطوم أن خطورة الإصابة بالفيروس أخطر بكثير من خطورة اللقاح (القريبة من الصفر)، قائلاً: أتحدث عن حالات الإصابة بالفيروس وعوارضها وإرهاصاتها طويلة المدى من ناحية عصبية وجسمانية.
وأضاف أن 1800 حالة سجلت لمشكلة القلب جراء اللقاحين فايزر وموديرنا، خلال أيام بعد أخذ الحقنة الأولى والثانية، وما رصدناه أنه بعد الحقنة الثانية ظهر بشكل أكبر، وربما هذه الظاهرة تعود إلى المناعة ذاتية أو الأجسام المضادة، لكن على أية حال كل الإصابات التي نتجت عن هذا العارض حصلت على العلاج المناسب وعادت لحياتها الطبيعية.
