London: Researchers from the University of Worcester in the United Kingdom have developed a model that will enable the potential level of pollen to be determined in the air, helping patients stay safe and avoid being in spaces that may further worsen their health, amid assurances that this model will help predict allergies each season.

The researchers explained that they focused their study on grass pollen, which is one of the most prominent species of plants responsible for allergies. Professor Alexander Korsunsky, the lead author of the study, said, “We analyzed the levels of pollen concentrations in the atmosphere in several locations in Britain, France, Belgium and other countries. In northern Europe, we compared this data for years with recorded temperatures and precipitation. “
He also mentioned that the researchers noticed the importance of rain and heat in the process of some plants secreting pollen into the air, while the precipitation did not have any significance in the process of releasing these pollen into the air in other types of plants, saying, “these results lead us to the conviction that a different model should be defined for each region.”
Allergies affect between 10 and 20 % of the world’s population, according to the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

ولفتوا إلى أن تبعات الإصابة بالحساسية لا تقتصر على العطس واحمرار العينين فحسب، بل باتت تشكل كابوسا للمصابين بالربو نظرا إلى تسببها في وجود اختلالات في النوم وفي الأداء الوظيفي أو الدراسي، مؤكدين أن تطبيق النموذج الجديد على نطاق واسع، سيمكن الأشخاص الذين يعانون من الحساسية من تجنب التواجد بأماكن معينة، ومعرفة ما إذا كانوا في حاجة لعلاج وقائي من المرض أم لا.
وأوضح الباحثون أنهم ركزوا في دراستهم على حبوب اللقاح من الفصيلة النجيلية، وهي من أبرز فصائل النباتات المسؤولة عن الحساسية، حيث قال الأستاذ ألكسندر كورقانسكي، المعد الرئيسي للدراسة، “حللنا مستويات تركز حبوب اللقاح في الغلاف الجوي في مواقع عدة في بريطانيا وفرنسا وبلجيكا وبلدان أخرى في أوروبا الشمالية، وقارنا هذه البيانات لسنوات مع تسجيل درجات الحرارة وكمية التساقطات”.
كما ذكر أن الباحثين لاحظوا أهمية وجود المطر والحرارة في عملية إفراز بعض النباتات للقاح في الجو، فيما لم يكن لهطول المطر أي أهمية في عملية اطلاق هذه اللقاحات في الهواء لدى أنواع أخرى من النباتات، قائلا “إن هذه النتائج تحيلنا إلى القناعة بضرورة تحديد نموذج مختلف لكل منطقة”.
تجدر الإشارة إلى أن حالات الحساسية تصيب ما بين 10 و20 في المئة من سكان العالم، وفقا للأكاديمية الأوروبية للحساسية وعلم المناعة السريري.
