India recorded the first case of “green fungus” infection in an emerging Coronavirus recovering patient on Wednesday.

“The first case of green fungus infection has been recorded for a Coronavirus recovering patient in Madhya Pradesh,” the Indian News Agency quoted a medical source in India as saying.

“The 34-year-old was infected with Coronavirus for two months, before suffering from a nosebleed and fever, and tests later confirmed that he had green fungus infection,” the source said.

What is the green fungus?
Dr. Ravi Dosi, head of the Department of Thoracic Diseases at the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS), says the disease is an infection of aspergillosis, and further research is needed on the fungus it caused.

Green fungi or aspergillus are known as a rare infection caused by common types of fungi known as as aspergillus.

Aspergillosis joins the growing list of color-coded fungal diseases that have emerged in Covid-19 patients and recovering patients.

Cases of black fungi (mucosa fungus) and white fungus (candida) have been seen in the country in increasing numbers.

While fungal infections are named in different colors, they are often caused by the same fungus species.

What is causing the green fungus?
Aspergillus can occur once microscopic bacteria from Aspergillosis fungus are inhaled.

The body’s immune system suppresses the growth of any bacteria within the body, and in some cases the body is unable to suppress the growth of germs.

Those with weakened immune systems and those recovering or suffering from lung disease are more likely to develop aspergillosis.

The high number of fungal infections in Covid-19 patients are due to various factors, including lung damage, excessive use of steroids, weakened immune systems and reduced control of infection in hospitals.

What are the common symptoms of green fungus?
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), invasive aspergillosis infection can have the following symptoms:

• Fever.
• Chest pain.
• Cough.
• Coughing blood.
• Shortness of breath

CDC revealed that allergic reactions, lung infections and other organ infections are among the types of health problems caused by rashes. However, aspergillosis is not contagious and cannot spread between people or between people and animals from the lungs.

Who can get infected with green fungus?

The U.S. Health Authority says different types of rashes affect different groups of people. Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) often occurs in people with cystic fibrosis or asthma.

Chronic pulmonary aspergillosis usually occurs in people with other lung diseases, including tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or sarcoidosis.

Weight loss, cough, blood-accompanied with cough, fatigue and shortness of breath were reported in people with chronic pulmonary aspergillosis.

The CDC says other symptoms can develop if infection spreads from the lungs to other parts of the body.

ونقلت “وكالة الأنباء الهندية” عن مصدر طبي في الهند، قوله إنه “سُجلت أول حالة إصابة بعدوى الفطر الأخضر لمتعافي فيروس كورونا المستجد في ولاية ماديا براديش”.

وأوضح المصدر أن “المصاب يبلغ من العمر 34 عاما، أصيب بفيروس كورونا لمدة شهرين، قبل إصابته بنزيف في الأنف وحمى، وأثبتت الاختبارات إصابته بعد ذلك بعدوى الفطر الأخضر”.

ما هو الفطر الأخضر؟
يقول الدكتور رافي دوسي، رئيس قسم أمراض الصدر في معهد سري أوروبيندو للعلوم الطبية (SAIMS)، إن المرض هو عدوى داء الرشاشيات، وهناك حاجة إلى مزيد من البحث حول الفطر الذي تسبب فيه.

وتُعرف الفطريات الخضراء أو داء الرشاشيات بكونها عدوى نادرة تسببها أنواع شائعة من الفطريات تعرف باسم الرشاشيات.

وينضم داء الرشاشيات إلى القائمة المتزايدة من الأمراض الفطرية ذات الترميز اللوني التي ظهرت لدى مرضى “كوفيد-19” والناجين منه.

وشوهدت حالات الفطريات السوداء (فطر الغشاء المخاطي) والفطر الأبيض (المبيضات) في البلاد بأعداد متزايدة.

وفي حين تم تسمية الالتهابات الفطرية بألوان مختلفة، إلا أنها غالبا ما تسببها أنواع الفطريات نفسها.

ما الذي يسبب الفطريات الخضراء؟
