BRUSSELS: The Regional Director of the World Health Organization in Europe, Hans Kluge, confirmed today that Europe is witnessing a “boom” in Coronavirus cases, calling on countries to continue their efforts to confront it and not close schools except as a last measure.
“We are witnessing a surge” in the number of cases, with one million additional cases recorded in just a few days in Europe, and” we are also witnessing a gradual increase in deaths,” Kluge said in a statement last night.
He added that “we cannot be complacent” and “we will go through a bit difficult period; we have to be frank about that.”
The World Health Organization in Europe region, which includes 53 countries, including Russia, has recorded more than 11.8 million cases and about 295,000 deaths since the beginning of the epidemic, and in the past seven days, about 1.8 million new infections were recorded, in addition to 19,500 deaths.
He stressed that “maintaining the status quo is unacceptable,” and the United Nations calls on states to take “specific and proportionate” measures to confront the high number of infections and deaths.
He attributed the regional director of the World Health Organization in Europe, the severity of the epidemic in Europe to the high age of the population and the registration of a large number of concurrent diseases.
European governments continue to tighten measures to confront the second wave of Coronavirus, which is burdening the economy in the euro area and leading to a significant rise in public debt.

وقال كلوغه في تصريح له الليلة الماضية :” “نشهد طفرة” في عدد الإصابات مع تسجيل مليون إصابة إضافية خلال أيام قليلة فقط” في أوروبا و”نشهد أيضا زيادة تدريجية في الوفيات”.
وأضاف أنه “لا يمكننا أن نتراخى” و”سنمر بمرحلة عصيبة بعض الشيء، علينا أن نكون صريحين بشأن ذلك”.
وسجلت منطقة أوروبا في منظمة الصحة العالمية، والتي تضم 53 دولة بينها روسيا، أكثر من 11,8 مليون إصابة وحوالى 295 ألف حالة وفاة منذ بداية الوباء، وفي الأيام السبعة الماضية، سجلت حوالى 1,8 مليون إصابة جديدة، بالإضافة إلى 19500 حالة وفاة.
وأكد أنّ “الإبقاء على الوضع الراهن غير مقبول”، والأمم المتحدة تدعو الدول إلى اتخاذ تدابير “محددة ومتناسبة” لمواجهة ارتفاع الإصابات والوفيات.
