PHCC Launches National Adult Oral Health Screening Service

Doha: The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) launched the National Adult Oral Health Screening Service in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).
The national screening services is primarily concerned with preventing oral disease and promoting oral health, sitting as part of a range of dental screening programs in Qatar including Beautiful Smiles and the National School Oral Health Program provided by PHCC.
This service will specifically target the Qatari adult population, those aged 18 and above at its first phase, to include regularly scheduled oral health screening to avert the patient developing serious dental problems and complaints. Eligible client for oral health screening, with or without symptoms will have regular oral health screening that will support early detection of oral disease and provide oral health awareness to prevent future problems.
The screening program will be an opportunity for patients to raise any oral health concerns for early diagnosis, to ensure patient are well informed of the best oral health care and provide evidence-based preventive advice. As the services is provided by PHCC, this will ensure a patient centred care approach to support the patients personal health history as oral health issues are often related and exacerbated by other medical conditions, e.g. diabetes.
During the screening dentist will review the patients medical history, followed by examination of and a comprehensive assessment. The dentist will evaluate the patients overall oral health and either discharge them until the next scheduled oral health screening appointment, or if oral disease has been diagnosed, refer for onward care and treatment.
Managing Director at PHCC Dr. Mariam Abdul Malik said, “Globally health screening has been accepted as an important preventative role against disease. Preventive dental health screening aims to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment, therefore improving quality of life for our communities. Whilst emergency and restorative interventions can stop disease, they cannot restore the natural tooth and gum tissue lost because of it. The most cost-effective way to ensure optimal dental health is through prevention and education.”
Executive Director of Operations at PHCC Dr. Samya Ahmad Al Abdulla said, “Continuity of care is an important part of any health plan and oral health is no exception. Keeping your mouth healthy is an essential piece of your overall health. The screening program will not only allow us to understand the oral health challenges in Qatar but help us to identify and improve oral health int the community, effectively reduces the risk of poor oral health among this group. It will also provide us the opportunity to share comprehensive oral health education, for example your diet and the way you look after your teeth play an important role in preventing, or promoting, tooth decay. These early assessments will ensure preventive and early restorative care.”

الدوحة: أطلقت مؤسسة الرعاية الصحية الأولية خدمة الفحص الوطنية لصحة الفم للبالغين بالتعاون مع وزارة الصحة العامة، والتي تهتم بالوقاية من أمراض الفم وتعزيز صحة الفم.
وتُعد هذه الخدمة جزءاً من مجموعة برامج فحص الأسنان في قطر، بما في ذلك برنامج /الابتسامة الجميلة/ والبرنامج الوطني المدرسي لصحة الفم المُقدَّم من المؤسسة ، وتستهدف بصفة خاصة في مرحلتها الأولى، المواطنين القطريين البالغين من عمر 18 عاماً فما فوق، لتشمل فحوصات صحة الفم المنتظمة، وذلك لتفادي مواجهة المرضى لمشاكل خطيرة في الأسنان وتفادي الشكاوى، حيث سيخضع المريض الذي تنطبق عليه الشروط ، لفحص صحة الفم، سواءً مع وجود أعراض أو بدونها، لا سيما وأن لفحص المنتظم لصحة الفم من شأنه دعم الكشف المُبكّر عن أمراض الفم وزيادة الوعي بصحة الفم لمنع حدوث مشاكل في المستقبل.
وسيمنح هذا الفحص فرصة للمرضى لإبداء مخاوفهم المتعلقة بصحة الفم من أجل التشخيص المُبكّر، لضمان تعريفهم بشكلٍ جيد بأفضل خدمات الرعاية الصحية للفم وتقديم المشورة الوقائية القائمة على الأدلة وكذا ضمان اتباع نهج الرعاية المتمحورة حول المريض لدعم تاريخه الطبي ، علما أنه غالباً ما ترتبط مشاكل صحة الفم بحالات طبية أخرى وتتفاقم بسببها، مثل مرض السكري.
وفي هذا الإطار، قالت الدكتورة مريم عبد الملك، مدير عام مؤسسة الرعاية الصحية الأولية، إنَّ الفحص الصحي قد حظي بالقبول عالمياً باعتباره يؤدي دوراً وقائياً مهماً ضد الأمراض، موضحة أن الفحص الوقائي لصحة الأسنان يهدف إلى تسهيل التشخيص والعلاج المُبكّرين، وبالتالي تحسين نوعية الحياة للمجتمعات .
ونوهت إلى أن الإجراءات الطارئة والعلاجية يمكنها أن توقف المرض، ولكنها لا تستطيع استعادة الأنسجة الطبيعية للأسنان واللثة التي فُقدت بسبب المرض ، مؤكدة أن الطريقة الأكثر فعالية من حيث التكلفة لضمان التمتع بصحة الأسنان المُثلى هي من خلال الوقاية والتثقيف.
ومن جانبها قالت الدكتورة سامية أحمد العبدالله، المدير التنفيذي لإدارة التشغيل بمؤسسة الرعاية الصحية الأولية، إنَّ استمرار الرعاية هو جزء مهم من أي خطة للصحة، وبينت أن صحة الفم لا تعد استثناءً ، حيث أن الحفاظ على صحة الفم هو جزء أساسي من الصحة العامة، موضحة أن برنامج الفحص المذكور ليس من شأنه فقط فهم التحديات المتعلقة بصحة الفم في قطر، بل المساعدة أيضاً في تحديد وتحسين صحة الفم في المجتمع، ما سيقلل بشكل فعَّال من مخاطر سوء صحة الفم لهذه الفئة وإتاحة الفرصة أيضا للتوعية الشاملة بصحة الفم.
