Chess Federation Announces Katara International Championship

Qatar: The Qatar Chess Federation announced that it will organize the second Katara International Open Championship in cooperation with the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), which will take place from June 20th to the 23rd.
The tournament competitions are held according to the remote play system via the website (lichess.org) with the “Bullet” system for only one minute for each competitor, and the points are calculated in the classic way so that the winner gets a point, while the tie gets half a point and the loser gets nothing.
The Qatar Chess Federation invited all national federations in the world to participate in the championship competitions, as well as the most prominent international stars in this sport.
And it was confirmed the participation of the Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, the current world champion, who will seek to preserve his title in the Katara International Championship, which he won last August at the expense of American Daniel Naroditsky.
The tournament management decided to hold the competitions in qualifying stages, so that on June 20, two independent qualifying sessions will be held, each lasting 90 minutes, with the best 7 players from each session qualifying for the final price, in addition to giving two qualifying cards to the organizing country.
On this occasion, Director-General of the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, explained that the tournament confirms Katara’s keenness as a cultural institution to support sports activities and local and international championships, which reflects our country’s interest in sports of all kinds.
Al-Sulaiti expressed his confidence that the championship will emerge at the highest international level, befitting from its great successes in the past editions.
For his part, the President of the Qatar Chess Federation Mohammed Al-Mudhahki, stressed that the Katara International Championship is of great importance to all participants, pointing out that the second edition of the tournament emphasizes the great cooperation between the Federation and the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), praising Katara’s efforts and sponsorship of the Federation’s activities and competitions that organizes it.
Al-Mudhahki explained that the federation is looking forward to this type of partnership with national institutions to contribute to the dissemination of the culture of chess in Qatar, noting that the next stage will witness more continuous cooperation with Katara Cultural Village, especially since the idea of the last tournament left positive impressions on the family of the International Federation.

الدوحة: أعلن الاتحاد القطري للشطرنج عن تنظيمه بطولة كتارا الدولية المفتوحة الثانية بالتعاون مع المؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي /كتارا/، والتي ستجرى خلال الفترة من العشرين وحتى الثالث والعشرين من يونيو الجاري.
وتقام منافسات البطولة وفق نظام اللعب عن بعد عبر موقع /lichess.org/ بنظام الشطرنج “Bullet” بواقع دقيقة واحدة فقط لكل منافس، ويتم احتساب النقاط بالطريقة الكلاسيكية المتبعة بحيث يحصل الفائز على نقطة، فيما ينال التعادل نصف نقطة والخاسر لا شيء.
ووجه الاتحاد القطري الدعوة إلى جميع الاتحادات الوطنية في العالم للمشاركة في منافسات البطولة، كما وجه دعوات خاصة إلى أبرز النجوم العالميين في هذه الرياضة.
وتأكد مشاركة النرويجي ماجنوس كارلسن بطل العالم الحالي، والذي سيسعى للحفاظ على لقبه في بطولة كتارا الدولية، الذي توج به في أغسطس الماضي على حساب الأمريكي دانيال ناروديتسكي.
وقررت إدارة البطولة اقامة المنافسات على مراحل تأهيلية بحيث تقام يوم 20 يونيو الجاري جلستان تأهيليتان مستقلتان مدة كل منهما 90 دقيقة، على أن يتأهل أفضل 7 لاعبين من كل جلسة إلى الدور ثمن النهائي، وذلك بجانب منح بطاقتين تأهيليتين للبلد المنظم.
وبهذه المناسبة، أوضح الدكتور خالد بن إبراهيم السليطي المدير العام للمؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي / كتارا / أن البطولة تؤكد حرص /كتارا/ كمؤسسة ثقافية على دعم الأنشطة الرياضية والبطولات المحلية والعالمية بما يعكس اهتمام دولتنا بالرياضة بمختلف أنواعها، مشيرا إلى انه سيتم تنظيم البطولة وفق الإجراءات الاحترازية للدولة للوقاية من انتشار فيروس كورونا /كوفيد- 19/.
وأعرب السليطي عن ثقته في خروج البطولة على أعلى مستوى عالمي يليق بما قدمته من نجاحات كبيرة في دوراتها الماضية.
من جهته، أكد محمد المضيحكي رئيس الاتحاد القطري للشطرنج أن بطولة كتارا الدولية تحظى بأهمية كبيرة لدى جميع المشاركين، لافتا إلى أن النسخة الثانية من البطولة تؤكد على التعاون الكبير بين الاتحاد والمؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي /كتارا/، مثمنا جهود كتارا ورعايتها لأنشطة الاتحاد والمسابقات التي ينظمها.
وأوضح المضيحكي أن الاتحاد يتطلع إلى هذا النوع من الشراكات مع المؤسسات الوطنية للمساهمة في نشر ثقافة الشطرنج في قطر، مشيرا الى ان المرحلة المقبلة ستشهد المزيد من التعاون المستمر مع مؤسسة الحي الثقافي كتارا، لاسيما أن فكرة البطولة الماضية قد تركت انطباعات ايجابية لدى أسرة الاتحاد الدولي.
