Warning against selling fake Coronavirus vaccines Online

Doha: European police “Europol” warned, on Sunday, of the danger of selling possible fake vaccines for Coronavirus on the Internet.

In statements published by the German “FUNKE” media group, according to Anadolu Agency, Catherine DePaul, head of the European Police Service, indicated that there is a real danger that criminals try to exploit the huge demand for vaccines, to display fake vaccines on the Internet.

These statements coincide with the start of the vaccination campaign on Sunday in some European countries, including Germany and Hungary.

DePaul said, “Officials have already detected tangible signs of possible tampering around the alleged vaccines offered for sale through social media.”

And she continued, saying that “consumers must be careful that obtaining such offers, may lead to receiving a placebo vaccine, or nothing at all.”

And she stressed that “fake vaccines can have dangerous repercussions on health.”

Europol called on the member states of the bloc to proceed with caution, according to the same source.

She pointed out that “the European authorities must also be prepared for attempts to steal the vaccine,” stressing that “the police authority has identified potential hot spots.”

The countries of the European Union are among the first and most widespread regions of the Coronavirus in the world, led by France, Italy and Spain.

Since the start of the pandemic, the death toll from Coronavirus infections in the European Union countries has reached 16 million, and more than 336,000 deaths.

الدوحة: حذرت الشرطة الأوروبية “يوروبول”، الأحد، من خطورة بيع لقاحات وهمية محتملة لفيروس كورونا عبر الإنترنت.

وأشارت كاترين ديبول رئيسة جهاز الشرطة الأوروبية، في تصريحات نشرتها مجموعة “فونكه” الإعلامية الألمانية بحسب وكالة الأناضول، إلى خطر حقيقي يتمثل في محاولة مجرمين استغلال الطلب الهائل على اللقاحات، لعرض لقاحات وهمية على شبكة الإنترنت.

وتأتي هذه التصريحات بالتزامن مع بدء حملة التطعيم الأحد في بعض الدول الأوروبية، بينها ألمانيا والمجر.

وأوضحت ديبول أن “المسؤولين رصدوا بالفعل علامات ملموسة على وجود احتمال تلاعب، حول لقاحات مزعومة معروضة للبيع عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي”.

وتابعت قائلة إنه “يجب على المستهلكين توخي الحذر حيث أن الحصول على مثل هذه العروض، قد يفضي إلى تلقي لقاحا وهميا، أو لا شيء على الإطلاق”.

وأكدت أن “اللقاحات الوهمية يمكن أن تتسبب بتداعيات خطيرة على الصحة”.

ودعت “يوروبول” الدول الأعضاء في التكتل إلى المضي قدماً بحذر، بحسب المصدر نفسه.

وأشارت إلى أن “السلطات الأوروبية يجب أن تكون مستعدة أيضا لمحاولات سرقة اللقاح”، مؤكدة أن “هيئة الشرطة حددت نقاط ساخنة محتملة”.

وتعد دول الاتحاد الأوروبي من أوائل المناطق وأشدها انتشارا لفيروس كورونا في العالم، وعلى رأسها فرنسا وإيطاليا وإسبانيا.

ومنذ بدء انتشار الجائحة، بلغت حصيلة إصابات كورونا في دول الاتحاد الأوروبي 16 مليون شخص، وأكثر من 336 ألف وفاة.
